I have a Sheltie and i don't know what to do any more. He's been sheding for about a month now. He use to be inside all day. He even use to sleep with me every night and he use to wake me up for school every morning at 7a.m bu now my mum has banned him from cming inside.
When will he stop sheding.
HELP!!!!!!!
How long have you had the dog? How old is the dog?
There are very few breeds that will not shed at all - MOST breeds will shed! Simple brushing every day will help reduce the hair. And a vacuum cleaner works on the hair that is shed inside the house. Although I have nonshedding dogs now, I had a lab in the past so I am no stranger to dog hair everywhere. I simply brushed my lab out and just had to deal with the hair that ended up on my clothes. I hope you can convince your mom to let the dog back inside. It is not healthy for a dog to sit in a backyard alone all the time, especially an intelligent, high energy dog like you have.

Did you research the breed at all before getting this dog??
Shelties SHED. Many dogs SHED. Shelties, with their thick undercoat, are very bad at shedding. You should have known this before you got the dog!
He's never, ever, going to stop shedding....almost every dog sheds.
BUT...you can help! I would consider taking the dog to a groomer. The groomer will be able to blow the dogs coat out with a high pressure dryer, and get rid of most of the undercoat. After that, please brush your dog every day. This will greatly reduce the shedding! I suggest using a slicker comb, and also an undercoat rake to get the hair deep down.
It's not fair to the dog to make him live outside because of what he does naturally. :( Please convince your mom of this. Dogs should be family members, not forced to live outside.
p.s. I have a siberian husky--another heavy shedder.....with regular baths (about every 1 1/2-2 months) and brushing several times a week, I keep his shedding under control.

I do brush him every day. I get about half a bag of hair out of him daily. He only started to shed this havely about a month ago.

Dogs shed worse at different times of the year......I think dogs with thick undercoats like that "blow" their coat about twice a year. That's probably what's happening with your dog right now.
Just keep brushing and brushing, the shedding will eventually slow down again. How old is your dog? If he's younger, he may just be getting his full coat in, which will obviously shed worse then the coat he had as a puppy. What kind of brush do you use?

Yes, my husky is 10 months and I've noticed an increase in shedding with his adult coat.
I would recommend using several types of brushes on your dog.....what I do is brush with a slicker and an undercoat rake at the same time, one in each hand. The slicker loosens the coat, and the undercoat rake gets the stuff underneath. I also use a shedding blade occasionally, it's quite useful...especially on the backs of the rear legs, where fur really accumulates. I also think if you don't take the dog to a groomer, give him a good bath with a high quality shampoo and conditioner. It's quite helpful to condition his coat really well, then brush him while he's still wet with conditioner.
Here's what those tools look like:

Maybe you could show this information to your mom, and she can help you brush him and allow him back inside again. Good luck! :)

Timber doesn't shed at all (which is odd since the majority of the breeds in her are bad shedders  ) but Leather is a german shepherd and she sheds terribly! She loses hair everyday, but it's worse in her shedding seasons where we could fill a few garbage bags :(

When getting any dog, you should expect some kind of chedding. The lady at the huamne society told me dogs also shed more under stress... Is there anything that may make the dog feel stressful?

I'm sorry, but I've seen pics of your dog and it is NOT possible for that dog to not shed. There's no way. She obviously has longer fur, and an undercoat. She sheds, I guarantee it. Maybe not as bad as other dogs, I can believe that...especially shepards, they shed terribly.......but she sheds.
The only dogs that don't shed are types like poodles and schnauzers...and even they shed a bit...humans shed hair too.....

I have three different kinds of dogs and they all shed.
Max, the dachshund sheds little black needle hair - lots of them. They just aren't as noticeable because they are small.
Carly, the mixed shepard sheds buckets and bags of hair all year round. We brush her if not daily at least every other day to keep it at least under control. We get Carly bunnies, not dust bunnies.
And last, but not least Molly the yorkie sheds fine hair like humans.
I brush them all with different kinds of brushes depending on their coat. We try to make it a nice quiet thing, a treat. Some like, some don't.

you should have gottin a non sheding breed like a shih tzu. they dont shed. I have a siberian that sheds soo bad. WE have to brush her 3 times a day in the summer with a heavy duity metal comb thingy. She gets so hot. But she still is an inside dog we just have to vaccume alot :) and I mean ALOT:)

I'm serious, she doesn't  When I brush her, a bit of hair comes out, but you can never find hair on my clothes or the carpet (unless I just finished brushing her and her hair is loose) Maybe that's just her way of shedding? Through brushing?

Jewels has the "human" hair and doesnt shed. Well of course she sheds a little. even though she doesnt shed we have to brush her every day though, since she is a maltese and because of her longer coat.
I dont think It is fair that your sheltie should have to live outside. :( Did you reasearch the breed before you got him?  all dogs will shed.

My dog Oscar is a shih tzu, and he doesnt shed at all not even when we brush him. You should have gottin a non sheding breed. Did you even research up on shelties befor you bought one? I hope you did, if you didnt that explains why you were suprised when he started sheding.

I researched Shelties before i got Foxy. When Foxy had to stay out side he wasn't alone. I was out with him every day for at least 4 hours and i tokk him for at least an hour walk everyday.
I think that my mum didn't want Foxy to come inside for the last month or so because he was into his heavey sheding season and because of my little baby sister(4 months old).
Foxy is not sheding as much as he ue to and he started coming back nside yestoday

Mickey is still kinda small so he doesn't shed A LOT yet but you see the hairs flying  I read that the sheltie "blows" their coat about once a year and then just sheds regularly the rest of the year. Shedding is normal, it is also the reason my Mom didn't want a dog. Just be patient.
