This is Rex, and must be a new arrival at the Brown County Humane Society where we got Pebbles and Dio...what a beauty...all that's mentioned right now is his name, so I have no clue how old he is or anything.

How could anyone have given that boy up? He's gorgeous!

WOW, This GSD is a gorgeous example of the breed. I think
GSD Rescue would snap him up in a minute, if there was space
available. I would love to know more about his history and
general temperment. Awesome doggie.:) I'll bet Sue would
love him.:)

Liz, their website is www.bchumane.org . Unfortunately, BamBam is still there, but they have adopted quite a few I think. Leigh Ann called me today and the message cut off (I guess they were having phone problems) and when I called her back she had gone for the day. I know that Kari (on the site) has been adopted, but that's all the farther I got. I'm sure if you knew of a rescue for him, Leigh Ann would love to know. She is absolutely awesome with that. She would much rather the dog go to rescue and get adopted that way than for her to have to go through the trauma of putting them down. She really works her butt off to get these dogs adopted or into rescue....she works 7 days a week and usually about 10 hours a day either at the shelter or at home on the computer or on the phone with rescues and such. Give her a call. They are closed only on Tuesdays and Thursdays, but she is usually there and most of the time answers and if not she always returns messages.

Molly,
I have only found one Indiana GSD rescue site & I think it's
a one or two person setup. I know, I looked around some
after Buddy passed. The Illinois Rescue group that Sue knows
about is more of a tri-state group(more far reaching,more
people involved, I think). It's a shame but I don't know of any
other GSD group here. A lot would depend on his temperment
and past experiences, but many, many people would be
interested in checking him out, I'm sure. People give up dogs
for ALL kinds of reasons & it's most always a "people" problem
not a problem with the dog itself. :( I sure wish Sue would
see this one & maybe she could let Illinois GSD rescue look at
him, if they have space. I wish Rex all the luck in the world.:)

What a handsome dog--he looks as good as Dallas, the GSD from the Westminster show!!
I can't imagine giving up any dog, much less one that gorgeous!! I hope he finds a forever home very very soon.

Absolutely stunning dog! I, like everyone else, can't imagine anyone in their right mind letting him go! Good luck to Rex, I feel confident someone will see the beauty. Hopefully he's got a good temperment. :)

The only problem is that they are a VERY rural shelter, but Leigh Ann does such good work, they have a pretty high turn over. And, yes, they have some real lovers. I think I said this before and if I did, ignore my senior moment, but Kari the Coonhound got adopted this weekend. I am desperately trying to find someone to take BamBam, I think he's been there the longest and may be running out of time. IF nothing else happens, I guess Mike and I will take him, but I would love to find him a home. I emailed Leigh Ann and asked her to email me with more info on Rex and as soon as she does, I'll post it.

WOW!!!!! What a magnificent creature!!!!! How did he get there? He should be adopted in a flash!
He does need to get into rescue. I wish I could foster him, but because of Killian's autoimmune disease attacking him now, I won't be fostering til we get him under control.
I can't ask Marianne to take him into the rescue because she'll ask me to foster him. Also I am supposed to be resigning from that rescue and joining up with my area coordinator starting her own (yippee, didn't I say she should??). The paperwork isn't finished , so we can't take any dogs yet.
Could someone e-mail Marianne with the link to the shelter and if you know the story, you could tell her about him? Maybe if a few of you forward the link to her, she might take notice! I have to stay out of it.

I was just thinking the same thing. Of course I am no dog show judge, but he is AWESOME!! I can't imagine that he'll be homeless very long!

Molly, did rescue pick him up or did someone adopt him???? I can't find him. His picture is gone!!! What happened?

Sue,
I'm at school and the screen that pops up here is the screen from last week, so I don't know what happened. I hate looking at that too, because Martie is the hound that got sick and they had to put her down last weekend. :( :( . I'll check when I get home and call Leigh Ann.

Thanks, Molly. I'm thinking he probably got pulled. He is too gorgeous to be pts. (unless he was sick ).
mugsy
03-18-2003, 02:59 PM
Well, I tried calling but no one answered and she did not email me yet. As soon as I know something I'll let you know. They would not put him down that quickly. They only PTS when there is no room and he just got there so he would not be even close. BamBam is probably the closest.
Ok I just went to the site and at home it's the 17th so that's right, but all the new pictures are "x"ed out so something happened there, but Rex is still listed on there.

Any news on this gorgeous guy????
mugsy
03-19-2003, 01:55 PM
Well, again I'm at school, but I was going to try again when I get in the car to call her. We can't make long distance calls from school unless it's to call a parent and I don't bring my cell in school. They weren't open yesterday and when I got home no one was there to answer the phone. I'll try on my way home and then post when I get there since it's too windy to try and clean the yard...every time you take a swipe with the rake dead grass goes flying everywhere!!

Ok, here's the scoop. Leigh Ann is fostering Rex now, but would love for someone to take him. She will only adopt him out to GSD saavy owners and people who will be home most of the time because it sounds like he has separation anxiety. He came as a stray, but turned out he did have an owner so they have all the info on him. He's current on shots, HW neg and on preventative until June, neutered, great with dogs, cats, and humans. He is, however, jumpy and mouthy and he would hang around he local shopping center and run up to people and want to jump and puppy mouth them and he was scaring the snot out of people. Oh and he weighs in at 125 pounds!!!! She said he is just a love and she is working with him on training at home.
Are you SURE you don't want him Sue?? <eg> I know though that right now you can't.

How old is he, Molly?? Does he get along with even dominent dogs?
You don't know how extremely tempted I am right now....
I will really have to think hard. If Killian weren't sick, I'd be there picking him us as we speak!!! With a little training and a companion GSD to play with, I think his problems would be solved. Oh how I wish I could take him. I'm afraid to stress Killian out any more than he has been. OHHHHHHHH, what a dilemma! Ohhhh, my poor Killian.........
He is in no danger, right?
mugsy
03-19-2003, 04:16 PM
Correct, he is not in danger right now and she figures he won't be. I'm sorry he's 2 years old. She said he loves everyone and everything. Trust me, if we didn't have 20 already and waiting to see what happens with Patches aka BamBam, I'd be right there with you. I told Leigh Ann about you and she said you would be more than welcome to call and talk to her. They are closed on Tuesday and Thursday, but are open every other day. (Geez they're so good that they pick 2 off days to be closed). I can't remember if I posted the site addy or not, so if I did, chalk it up to yet another senior moment, if not, here it is. www.bchumane.org
You know Sue, Killi needs your attention, please don't stress over this one when you have a sick little man at home. I'm not trying to push you into it or talk you out of it, I just thought you would like him.
Sudilar
03-19-2003, 04:26 PM
Oh, Molly, I would love to have him. Killian will come first in my decision though. I really have to think about this, though. However, if he is snatched up, that is wonderful. I know that if the new rescue I am going to be working for was up and running, Kari would grab him up into rescue! He would be a snap to adopt out! The paperwork is still going through on the new rescue, so nothing is happening yet. I STILLl have to resign from the rescue I'm in now  .

Thanks for asking! He isn't getting any worse. The pred seems to be helping. His nasal cavity isn't as congested as before, but his nose tip is still red and raw. I haven't found any new crusty spots. After Saturday, the pred dose gets cut in half. So far, I don't see any obvious liver problems. His appetite is good (the pred does that). So that's good!

Ok, here's the news on Rex. I talked to Leigh Ann yesterday and she has had numerous apps on him. One couple was from Bluffton, which is a little town just south of us, and one was from a woman in Ohio (who Leigh Ann asked me if I knew). She is confident that he will be adopted really soon. She just has to pick the right one. Yeah for Rex, now if we could just move some of the others that they keep getting in.

Sue, I'm sure that Leigh Ann will have one for you when you're ready...may not be a GSD, but it will be a life needing to be saved (like ALL shelters don't have the problem)

Sue, I just talked to Leigh Ann and Rex is still available. She is fostering him, so he's not at the shelter and not in any danger. They are getting 5 or 6 apps on him everyday, so she feels that she can be really picky about where he goes.
Just thought I'd keep you all updated.

Thanks so much for the update, Molly. I was wondering about him. I thought he was adopted by now. He is so gorgeous. Yes, she should be picky for this very special boy. Believe me, I was so tempted, but Killi is not well, so my hands are tied. Please let me know when he is adopted and to whom. ;)

Will do Sue, I've been thinking about Killi as well. My prayers are with him. Please keep us updated.
