My sheltie is 11 months old and he's great. When i started training him a few months ago he didn't have any tproblems with doing any of the normal sit, stands, drops and stays. As most dogs he loves to chase his tail and he gets it every single time:eek:

When I first got him, I thought that I should just let him settle down for a few weeks or so. But after, I realized that Kai got bored alot because shelties are very smart and if bored, they will find something to do. So I started training him around 3.5-4 months. Since then, he's chewed on less shoes, less telephone cords etc.

This is my Jakey Baby. He's 7 years old and very loveable! He's a little peeved in this picture because I made him let me brush his butt. He HATES having his butt brushed. Any ideas on how to solve that problem?

FOXY IS THE MOST BEAUTIFUL SHELTIE I HAVE SEEN. I HAVE A FEMALE, HER NAME IS JESSE, SHE IS ALMOST 14 MONTHS OLD. I HAVE BEEN LOOKING FOR A MALE SO THAT SHE CAN BE BRED. I WOULD REALLY LIKE TO FIND A MALE PUP TO RAISE AND THEN BREED. I WISH I COULD FIND ONE LIKE YOUR FOXY:)

Yea...well that can be a problem. Shelties are known to be barkers and when you have 3, they tend to bark more. Kai barks at everything that passes by the house. He just sits in front of the balcony door all day watching people pass by. He doesn't bark when people pass him while i walk him though...odd :S

Thats right Shelties are barkers but the good thing is that they don't attack. Foxy barks at every one that goes past but ones a person gets in through the gate he just wants to plays

I think my sheltie is mutant! He's not barky at all. He never barks in the house. If somebody comes to the doors sometimes he'll make a "harrumph" noise but that's about it. Outdoors he'll bark if he sees kids playing because he wants to join them, and he'll bark if somebody strange comes to the door but that's about it. He's huge, too! Several people have asked me if he's actually a collie. But no - all his litter mates are normal-sized shelties.

Mickey never barks unless there is a loud sudden noise or he is trying to defend himself. Like, last night there was a thunderstorm. He was barking at nothing, just running around. But other than that kind of stuff, he doesn't make a sound. He and Jake are alike in that way, stacwase :)

Teddy barks at *everything*. Like a snow flake hitting the ground or a leaf blowing by.

Jake very rarely barks indoors. If he's outside, he barks a lot at people, especially kids playing. But indoors he only barks if somebody doesn't follow his rules.
Jake's rules:
1. No running. That's great - except when we're trying to run to answer the phone he barks and tries to herd us in the opposite direction!
2. No roughousing. Then he barks, and attacks whoever is losing (I guess he figures he's better off on the winning side!)
3. No falling down - but this rule only applies to babies. If they fall (or crawl) he will bark and try to lift them up by their diaper.
4. No babies allowed to play by the staircase. If he sees babies playing by the staircase he makes himself into a living baby gate - running back and forth in front of the staircase and barking if the babies get too close!
Otherwise he only barks outdoors or when he has to go pottie or wants to go for a walk! He's an unusual Sheltie, though. If I hadn't gone to the breeder's personally and met his parents I'd swear he wasn't purebred. He's HUGE! He weighs 45 lbs, and he's not at all overweight. He's about 23 inches tall, if I remember right.

Foxy never barks inside. When he is out side he only barks when there is no one out with him.

Well maybe Jake's not so wierd then, after all!
Maybe kai's the weird one...
He barks at EVERYTHING. He's usually at the balcony glass door staring out...he'll bark if someone passes by with a dog or when someone comes in the gate. He'll bark when I sneeze..and try to jump me. He'll bark when I run. He even barked at my brother when he was playfully hitting my mom. He'll bark and kinda attack at anyone who tries to attack someone he loves. All that barking did come in handy though...
This afternoon, a dog next door had gotten out of the gate and was sniffing at a house 3 doors down. If Kai didn't bark, I think she would have been on the streets and the streets around here are fairly busy. So..thanks to Kai's (ANNOYING) barking, we went outside and got her back home.

Sounds like Kai has the same house rules as Jake - no running or roughousing! Of course, Kai is a little more strict and says "no sneezing" and "no moving around outside"!
Good thing he barked at the dog outside!
