I just had to jump right on this thread and start raving about you Romeo! Oh, just look at how magnificent you are! Check out those paws - so delicate:D :D Look at that face, just waiting in anticipation for the next great event to take place - maybe a kitty chase or a car ride.

Romeo I would imagine that your human is just wild about you and wants to be with you as much as possible.

I sure hope that today is filled with some extra treats and a lot of mail in your honor!

Congratulations, you are one handsome guy!

Romeo you are fantastic!! I, too, have a dogue de bordeaux who is 7 months old ... and growing strong (90 lbs). You couldn't ask for a "gentler" breed (although they sometimes forget their size and think they are lap dogs). I love my DDB -- my next dog, and my next dog ... will always be a DDB!

Now, our next mission -- we only have to get the AKC to recognize the breed!!

Thumbs up, Romeo ... you represent our breed well!!

Thanks for all the nice replies about Romeo!! I consider myself very lucky to have this amazing dog. The way that people become obsessed with him because of his personality is amazing to watch. My Dad never really liked dogs before I brought Romeo home. Now he loves him just as much as I do!

Romeo turns 16 months old tomorrow, and weighs in at around 120 pounds. I recently took him back to the ranch he was raised on to visit one of his Dogue de Bordeaux friends. They remembered each other instantly and started chasing each other around in the snow. Yesterday we went to the local pet store to pick up some things, and people just flock towards Romeo. His breed is somewhat rare since they aren't AKC recognized. The employee at the counter said that he had only seen one other dogue.

Sebastian....
Your dogue looks great! Much darker than Romeo. You are so right about them being a gentle breed, Romeo plays so nicley with my 3 year old nephew. Romeo also thinks that he is a lap dog since he gets to sleep on my bed, lay on one of the couches, and often jumps into my parents lap while they sit in their double recliner!!! Nothing like seeing a 120 lbs dog lay on someone's lap.
I feel that same way that you do about always having a dogue in the house. I will always have DDB's for the rest of my life! Hopefully sometime soon AKC will recognize the breed, thank goodness that there are many people working on that right now. Have you ever checked out www.ddbs.org?

Well here are a couple extra pictures of Romeo for everyone to enjoy!!

Sorry the way I typed that seemed unclear. What I ment was no big deal that you thought I was a lady :) -Travis

Nope, no spots here. Only a big white patch on his chest! Thanks for the welcome to the board. It's quite funny because I didn't even notice the pet talk part of this website, I would just look at the animals of the day. I have plenty of exploring to do throughout this whole message board.

Travis,

Out of curiousity, can I ask what diet you have Romeo on? I know that "bloat" is common in large chested dog's. Of course, I make sure that we DO NOT play with him or exercise him after meals ... but, this is one my biggest fears with my boy.

Suggestions?

Sebastian...
I feed Romeo Iams Large Breed 1-year +. Also when I first got him I bought a raised feeding stand to combat the bloat issue. I have never had any problems with it so far. I also do not exercise him right after he eats, but have heard that you should at least give them 30 minutes before you do anything (exercise/playing). The only thing that happens with romeo is that if he drinks too much water after playing, sometimes he vomits a little water up. But that is pretty normal for most any living creature. When hiking or doing anything that is really tiring, he doesn't eat much. Oh, how many cups of food do you give your DDB per meal? Romeo gets 3-4 cups twice a day, that seems to be a good amount as far as keeping him fit and trim!! :) -Travis

Romeo, you sure are a handsome baby boy with lovely big feet to grow into.
I wonder if your owner will ever get you a French Mastiff lady-friend called La Belle Juliet?
Have a wonderful time being a very famous pooch as Dog of the Day. I hope we see more pics of you as you get older (& even bigger!).

It's funny that you mention a lady friend for Romeo. I almost got a female DDB that grew up with Romeo, her name was Liz though!! I think it would be so great for him to have a girlfriend named Juliet....

I hope you two decide to stay here, and keep us updated on Romeo, it would be a pleasure seeing & hearing about him!

I hope Romeo doesn't mind getting kisses, because that face is just too precious (more lip prints on the monitor). And what a dear personality he has as well. Thanks for sharing the additional pictures and it is a special treat for us to hear more from the family. Sorry I missed posting on Romeo's big day, as you can see there was no way I could resist this LOVER!
