Thanks for all the advice about George sleeping on my head. I 'm glad I can let him continue.. cos he really is too cute to move.

Well, you wanted pictures here goes (First try of uploading pictures)

Here is our 8 years year old George, he has just had his belly tickled hence the odd position. Ps. He is on a diet cos he's a bit fat.

He was so scared of our real fire when we first adopted him.

Now he is so relaxed, he slid off his cushion next to the fire and just couldn't be bothered moving.

He's very laid back.

I still think George needs a furry friend to keep him company when I get a job.
But my other half thinks that George will sulk and that we wouldn't love another cat the same.
Maybe we could visit a shelter (with George) and see if he likes any cat.

How can you tell if a cat gets lonely ? Just so I can watch out.

It's very obvious that George loves you very much. You are very fortunate to have such devotion.

George - Bastet is VERY interested in you! She is sitting on my lap reading pettalk with me and her ears pricked up when I mentioned you!

Gorgeous Kitty!

Oh my goodness! How sweet! George is just an absolute love bug! There he is "working the room!" :D

Cats can be quite content to be "the only pet" in a household. As long as they get love and attention from you, I'm sure he would be ok. It certainly looks like he gets LOTS of love! :D He sure loves you! What a precious gift. However, if you do decide to get George a companion, you might consider a kitten, so he wouldn't feel as threatened as he might with another adult cat. Has he been around other cats before?
Give that lovable belly some rubbins for me! ;)
**hugs**

Pay it forward, sometimes it is difficult to determine if a furkid is lonely or not. Usually, I just depend on intuition to determine if one needs a playmate. Much has to do with the nature of your furkid. I have a few who would be best suited to be an only cat. However, at the time of adoption I hadn't developed my little exam to determine if one would be compatible with a playmate. Generally, a cat who is very independant and does not make itself sociable is not a candidate for another furkid in the house. However, if it is sociable and friendly and enjoys being around you, then it is a safe bet that another companion is in order. From what I can gather about George, I'd say go for it, and get him a companion.

I am leaning towards, keeping him on his own for the time being... cos he had a rough life and he deserves all our love.

He was found living at a local multistory carpark and the pet centre had him for three months, before we adoped him. I don't know how/why anyone could leave him in a carpark..nasty people.

And why did no one pick him at the centre.. I mean I am glad cos he was the best cat ever and noone can love him more than me and my fella. But he was so desperate for affection.

When we took our George home. He meowed to get out of the travelling cage and ran out of the quiet space we had made for him, to us and he spent the next 6 hours asking for cuddles. and following us if we moved anywhere. He was so excited he didn't nap for 16 hours. But he's calmed down now and sleeps 20 out of 24 hours (on my head when he can..lol)

When I get a job and he's on his own during the day, we'll watch him to check he is happy. If he gets lonely...down to the rescue centre we go !!

Ps. When we adopted him, he was in a cage with another cat but the centre said he neither fought nor played with the other cat.
But he was more reserve in there, so he might get on other cats

You sound like wonderful people, and I'm so happy George has a good home with you now - maybe that's why he was at the centre so long, because he wanted to wait for you! :)

I have an "only kitty" too, and I wonder sometimes if he is lonesome. He does come out to greet me when I get home, most times, but he doesn't seem OVERLY excited to see me. I think he entertains himself pretty well by watching our pet rats and messing up my rugs by playing with his catnip toys  when we're not home.

My girl kitty I had before was an incurable head sleeper - but she slept ON my head, directly over my face or my ear if I was turned sideways. I woke up a lot of nights spitting cat fur out of my mouth, or couldn't fall asleep because of the deafening purr being funneled directly into my ear. When she passed away, that first night without her was almost unbearable.........:(

Welcome to Pet Talk, by the way! :D

What a stunner you are! 'Course, I may be a bit biased because you look a lot like my Chester. He sometimes sleeps by my head like you do but usually his older bro, Leonardo is there. I'd love to rub your tummy too. Chester won't allow it. SIGH!

I always laugh when I see these 'head sleeping' cats!! Always good for a cold winter's night!

Welcome to Pet Talk!

Tigris does not sleep on the head but between neck and shoulder. It's nice in wintertime but in summer? Oh that warm furcollar at temperatures of 75 etc.

George however is a cutie-pie:)

Oh , I 'm falling in love with George !! he looks so very much like my Rb-cat Sydney ...! Sydney was abit "fat" too!
What do you do for his diet ? My cat Maya is getting to heavy too ! The problem here is that we have 2 cats , and whenever the other one (INKA) looks the other way , Maya "steals" her food ...!

To be honest, the only reason he is fat, we were virgin cat owners and George ended up being feed too much over a 6 months period.

Me & my partner thought the ear piercing meiow 'I am starving too death.. I need food now... No One has fed me in hours' was honest.

We have now caught on !! so we are simply giving him less food (checked with the vet first) and laugh at his wails.

But George is a little actor. If I feed him and my partner arrives home (Or vice versa) and enters the kitchen.. Off George goes 'I've not been fed ever.. noone loves me...feed me now' and if I reenter the kitchen and look at him, he cuts-off mid moan, licks a paw, then walks off as if he was never asking for food, in the first place.

What a cutie.

This performance is a specialty of Edwina. I blush to admit it still works sometimes. We try and ask each other..."Has Edwina had her turkey?" but weekends when I leave early for class is one time she always seems to work it!

George is a great cat! Boo often cuddles up next to my face at night. I love it! Especially in the winter time.

Sam and I are moving back to the States with Boo. I think that since he'll have to be indoors out there, we will have to look at getting him a little friend for daytime shenanigans.

What a total cutie!!! I love these pictures...

As a mom to two (and a half? Does Basie count??) black furkids...I'm in love!!

I think George would like a new friend, but most likely when you are gone during the day.

What a cute little actor. ;)

Yep, I think you are right.

Now all I have to do is get a job!

George has spend the last hour meowing and sitting on the job paper, I had spread out to read, on the floor.

But he is only interested in the page I want to read, as I left him on one page and starting reading another.... guess who moved.

I think he wants me to stay home and be his slave on a full time basis !! LOL

Yep! He's trying to train you!!! ;)

Its funny how they have to lay on whatever you are reading. Whenever I have the calendar out, Noel lays down on it. When I am studying....here comes Basie. ;) Too cute!
