We adopted our first pet from the local rescue cat, 6 months ago , a beautiful friendly 8 year old black cat, we have named George.

He has always asked for affection when he wants it, though he seldom sits on either mine or my partners laps.

George has recently taken to sneaking upstairs to our bed (We half heartly keep him downstairs during the night).

He has recently started sleeping on my head !!!. I wake up to find him either in a ball leaning on one side of my face or wraped around the back of my head, either way he rests his chin on my head and purrs at me.

Is this just friendlyness or will he suffocate me !!

Seriously... Why has he started doing this. Any Ideas.

Thanks

it is definitley a compliment. if you don't have allergies or asthma or something similar I'd let him be. You have what seems like a very nice kitty there.

first of all : welcome to PT !!!

I wouldn't worry about your cat's behaviour !! She has lots of confidence in you , AND she has discovered the warmest and softest sleeping place available : in your bed !! Enjoy it , he he !!

:D

Cos we are still adapting to being owned by our cat.

PS. George is our only cat and I am at home with him a lot, as I am out of work at the moment.
When I go back to work, how will we be able to tell if he gets lonely? Should we adopt a friend cat for him ?

having 2 or more is always nice (in my opinion). But if you can't, then just make sure he has a lot of distractions. toys, scratching posts, stuff to keep him busy ( for those rare waking hours). But personally, bet you can't have just one!:D

George sounds like a lovely cat. And its very nice of him to allow you to share the bed with him. Enjoy the snuggling.

Welcome!!! It seems that George is finally feeling totally comfortable in his new home. Seems once they conquer the bed, they tend to rule the house from then on. ;) I agree with Jen that unless there's some health reason to keep him out of bed, take it as a compliment and enjoy. He won't be able to suffocate you because will will definetely wake up first. ;)

I would also reccomend a friend for him once you go back to work. In my opinion, two are always better than one (are you listening Nakita's mom?;) ). It will keep George occupied while you're gone, and will only bring double the joy in your household.

Good luck, and let us know if you decided to get him a friend. Also, we here at Pet Talk absolutely adore pictures, if you get my drift......;) :D

Welcome to PT! I have always wanted a cat that sleeps on my head, but, alas, none of my 6 do. I think it is safe to say George will not suffocate you. He must feel pretty close to sleep this close to you :)

I think one more cat, at least, would be good. I would rec'md, since George is a mature cat, you adopt a significantly younger female one....

Good luck, welcome again!

Our orange cat, Noah does this to me! I LOVE it! With his head/chin on my forehead or cheak, I fall asleep instantly. I think George took and chance to sleep with you and found it to be as wonderful as he hoped.

Enjoy!

Our black cat, Olivia is starting to do this too. Its very endearing. :)

Welcome to PT! Where cats own people!

Congrats on George!

PICS and lots of them please!

I wouldn't worry about George sleeping near or on your head. Consider it a sign that he has accepted you as part of his family. A great honour!

When he starts batting you awake with his paws or licking your nose it means that 4am is now officially waking time and your lord and master has deemed it to be so! :D

That is a feline term of endearment. If you don't mind a snootful of cat hair, just let him be!

Welcome to Pet Talk! You have come to a truely great place. The people here are wonderful.

I think you should consider adopting another cat. I just adopted a new little kitten for my Hayley last week. They bonded right away. I think its one of the best things I did!
