Just thought of another one.

Dave and John are two friends of mine here in the north of England. They're quite alternative, identical twins, both six foot three like me with a shock of light brown ringlets each. They're gentle giants and are both very funny. Dave, incedentally, is a horse whisperer.

One day they decided to go to the local dog-rescue home to get themselves a dog. As we all know there is every kind of dog in these places from the cuddly puppies who get snapped up straight away to the hopeless old ugly dogs who no-one wants. Right in the end cage was the most hopeless of all.

He didn't rush to the bars, he'd seen it all before in his long, long time at the dogs' home. Besides, having only three legs and one eye, he didn't do much rushing anywhere. He was old, ugly and sadly resigned to the fact that no-one wanted him. It seemed he would end his unfortunate days in this place.

"We'll have that one," said Dave.

"Are you sure?" said the lady, "He'll take some looking after and he can't have long to go."

" Come on lad," said John, "You're coming with us."

"Boot" became one of the lads and went everywhere with us, we all loved him. He had a lot more left in him than anyone had given him credit for and confounded all his critics by living to a ridiculously old age. He was a cheerful, mischievous old character and is sadly missed but we're all so glad that Dave and John gave him a happy end to his days, good for you lads.

That's a wonderful story. Your friends are truly heroes for giving him a wonderful forever home.
