View Full Version : Blaze has lymphoma :(
Dixieland Dancer

Blaze (Dixie's brother) stopped eating again on Sunday. He lost all the weight he gained back and then another pound. :( Kathi and Bob took him to another specialist and he was diagnosed with lymphoma. :( :( They said he has 2 to 8 weeks with no treatment and it is uncertain with treatment. He had his first chemo treatment yesterday. Please keep him in your prayers.
I love Kathi as if she were my sister but I am at a loss of how to comfort her. I can't stop crying myself and knowing the pain she went through with losing Jazz just a short year ago, this is just to much to deal with.

Oh no, I'm at a total loss for words Candy. I can't believe it:(:( Kathi and Bob must be besides themselves with sadness. You have been the most supporitve friend. All you can do is be there for them, as you have been. And all of your friends here on Pet Talk will be with you, Kathi and Bob as well, sending our love, strength and prayers. We HAVE to believe that a miracle is possible. Try and be strong sweet, precious Blaze. We love you dear boy.{{{hugs}}}
Oh my! Candy this is heart breaking news. I know you and Blaze's parents are devastated and we are sharing in your pain here at Pet Talk. Like Sandra said, I think we need a miracle here. (((HUGS)))

I just can't believe it. I was hoping he was doing fine.
I know I pm'd you & told you this same thing, but please let Kathi & Bob know we are all praying for a miracle for Blaze. It would be so terrible to loose a boy as young as him.

I can't imagine their horror at this news, Candy. He is such a beautiful boy. I will definitely keep Blaze, Kathi and Bob in my prayers. I'm so glad they have such a good friend in you to be there to support them at this difficult time. Please don't give up hope. Sue's Bandit is a prime example of why we should always have hope.

How horrible :( I am so sorry, Candy. I am sorry for you and for them. I can't imagine how terrible they must feel. Although the outcome looks grim at this point...it's not hopeless yet! I think that if we all pitch in with prayers and well wishes, there is a chance that beautiful Blaze will pull out of this, with help from Chemo.
Please everyone, lots of positive thoughts!

Oh Candy! This is just too terrible. I'm so sorry for Blaze, you and your friends.
However, remember Duffy's story? He also had lymphoma.Just a couple of weeks ago I posted an update on him. After a year of chemo treatments he's completely free of it.
Would it be of any help if I asked Susan, Duffy's mom, what kind of chemo he had?
Lets hope than our collective prayers, plus modern veterinary medicine, also bring a cure for dear Blaze.
My thoughts are with you.

My heart just dropped through the floor. This is devastating. My heart goes out to Blaze and his family and friends. Remember, miracles do happen and I am praying for one.
Which protocol are they using? Would the Navy protocol be helpful?
Yahoo has a wonderful canine cancer group. The persons on the bb have a world of knowledge, support and new treatments (natural and medical). http://groups.yahoo.com/group/CanineCancer/
Bandit is on Rutin (a very large amount) and diuretics for his rare lymphosarcoma. It is helping him. He should have died by now, but he is fighting and winning at the moment. He is not a candidate for chemo.
I will post Navy protocol as soon as I find it again.
Here it is:

Thanks for the offer but I believe the Chemo is already started and they probably won't want to switch it now. I appreciate the encouraging story though and will reread it for more inspiration.

Thanks for all the info. I don't know what form of Chemo they are doing since Kathi and I can't get past two or three sentences in our conversations without bursting into tears. However I will forward the info you gave to her.
I will also tell her about Bandit's success. When he was diagnosed did they say how long he would live? They are giving Blaze 2 to 8 weeks with no treatment and it is uncertain with treatment.

Bandit would have been dead within a month if they hadn't discovered the cancer at the emergency vet. His chest was filling with fluid and the first vet gave him cough medicine.

Candy,
I am so sorry to hear about the diagnosis for Blaze.:( That
certainly is a scary thing. Please remember Albea's story of
Duffy's recovery. I sure though he probably had no chance
but prayed for the best anyway. Also Bandit's come back
from his terrible illness. I will surely keep Blaze & Susan in
my thoughts and prayers for a full recovery also. Hugs from

Tomorrow I am going with Bob to Cleveland (2 hour drive) to get the second dose of Chemo. Kathi has to work and doesn't want to use up all her vacation incase she needs it later down the road. Anyway... there really hasn't been any improvement. He is still not eating much and has lost almost 20 pounds. He really does look pretty sickly at this point. I am hopeful still that he will start responding. The doctor should be able to tell us tomorrow what is going on.
Thanks for all the prayers and well wishes. They are appreciated!

I don't know much about dogs but I can tell you that a friend of mine has a Golden Retriever named Bailey. Bailey was diagnosed with cancer of the lymph nodes and after months of treatment is now in perfect health. They have made incredible advances in cancer treatment in both humans and animals and I'm keeping my fingers crossed that Blaze will come through with flying colours.!! Keep us posted.

He is still not eating. :( :( I took over some food mushed up real good for him and we forced about one cup down him but he fought us. He didn't want to eat. :( I don't know how long after they start the chemo it should take before they start eating again but I hope it is soon. He has lost over 20 pounds so far and is nothing but skin and bones. His eyes are even sunken in his head now. It is very sad to see. :( :(
I appreciate all the continued prayers for this beautiful boy. He is only 5 years old and wants to play like normal but we are afraid his bones are weak and may break easily so he is just taken on short walks.

My heart is breaking for Blaze. I've been praying for him and will continue even harder. Dear Blaze, please start eating....
Are they force feeding or giving him IVs? Oh this is so difficult. I know how frustrating it is to get them to eat and when they refuse, it is heartbreaking. Is there some little thing that they can get him to eat? How about that tube hi calorie food (can't remember the name)?
Blaze, please eat...

Funny (not) Candy, when I posted my condolences and prayers for Blaze, I thought, "my God, the pain they must be going through!". Little did I know that less than a week later, I'd really felt the pain of it all. I hope and pray that the chemo helps Blaze. I was just wishing I had the power of the guy in Green Mile, that I could touch the area and transfer and dissolve the pain and distress. Hmm..turkey breast..I'll have to remember that.
