Hi tiger! Welcome. I have a rescued Jack Russell Terrier mix (the black and white one in my picture), we think that's what she is anyway. She apparently suffered some abuse at a man's hands as well. She didn't like my husband at all at first, but now we're all getting along much better. I don't know why some people are so mean, but aren't you glad there are lots more like us? ;)
Oh, BTW, what's your dogs name?

Welcome to Pet Talk. Of our three dogs: Sassee, a beagle, was rescued from a puppy mill by my fiancee over 12 years ago. Then we had to rescue her and her puppy Ginger from my fiancee's ex hubby. He took care of the pets about as well as he cared for the grown human children.

Welcome to PetTalk! Out of our four I have one rescue. We got her from the neighbors, who along with their older male shepard were starving her to death.

As you can see she's not starving anymore. In fact, she shared my breakfast this morning and since no one else would get up she got everyone's share!

She is the dog that everyone who comes to visit says "If you ever want to get rid of her, I'll take Carly." Like I'd let her go - NOT! She's one of my babies.

We'd love to see pictures of your baby as soon as you have some.

Ripley (black poodle in my signature) is a rescued dog. He has been with us since 1/16/03 and I can't even remember life before he came. He is a doll baby and it seems like he has always been here! He just blended in so well instantly! I was at the shelter where I got him just yesterday, to get papers to filled out now that we have had him neutered. Of course after I finished with that I walked through the shelter and looked at the cage where I first laid eyes on him. I am so glad he is not there any more but living with me now in his forever home! It made me sad though. So many dogs, so few homes. :(

We just got our newest girl, a 2 month old lab mix we're pretty sure we're naming Sierra, from the local city Animal Control. Here's a pic of her, and there's a pic of our older girls (Destiny, the dalmation and Dakota, the Harlequin Great Dane) at the bottom of my posts!

my 4 year old Boston Terrier is a rescue.

This is my Boston's story:
He was living on the streets with a homeless man. The rescue I got him from does not know why this man ended up with a healthy pure bred Boston Terrier, but, hey, the world is full of odd little twists and turns. But, we have a lot of resources for the homeless here in the bay area, the man was offered help, but under the condition that he got rid of the dog. The man absolutely refused to give up his dog, he choose to stay on the streets because he loved this dog so much. This whole time this man had befriended an ederly woman.
The man passed away living on the streets. And the ederly woman he had befriended took in the dog for a few days only to realize that being on a limited fixed income she was in no condition to take on a dog.
She took the dog to her local shelter and their response to seeing a Boston Terrier... 'small do, high energy... no one will want him... were gonna put him down...' As the case would be, it was a Friday afternoon, the shelter didn't perform any more euthenasia's until Monday, so he was cared for in the shelter over the weekend.
But, over the weekend a woman came in and saw him. Her friend has a pug rescue, so once she realized he was tagged for destruction she made a few calls to her friend who had no room for another dog. So he called a few friends. And finally a woman who runs a chihuahua rescue said she'd take him! Yaeahhhhh! another beautiful animal saved!!!

Robin, it wasn't easy!!:D

My daughter helped and as you can see, I ended up in the picture by accident.

They're a year older now so it's time to try again.

Mruffruff - They are all beautiful!

I'm just so impressed that even with help you managed to do that. Four hands are not enough here! We've tried several times to get one - just one - picture of all of them together and have finally given up! :(

As most of you about Noel, This is her story.

Twas the week before Christmas and all thur the town people were hurring all around, so that no one could hear the cries of one little puppy. She was all alone and scared and didn't know what to do.

Why are they coming toward me, what do they have in their hands? Why are they hitting me? Oh it hurts so. I cried and tried to run away but they kept on. Oh its getting dark, I can't see very well, everything is getting dim, oh why can't I see? My head hurts and they keep on hitting me. Oh I'm so scared, someone please help me. Can't anyone hear me cry. Please make them stop,. Now what are they doing, They are holding me down and I hurt so that I can't move. Oh they are hurting my ears, the pain is horrible, help me please, what are they doing. My ears are burning and hurting. I'm so scared, help. I am so weak that i can't move.

I must have fallen asleep, I don't remember. My head and ears hurt so and oh no I can't see. I hear someone, are they going to hurt me again. I' ll just lay here and maybe they won't see me. they are getting closer, someone is picking me up. the person is holding me. Telling me that it is okay, Heis stroking my fur and saying it's ok little puppy. He has someone call a place to come and pick me up. I'm so scared, am I going to be hit again? oh please dont' hurt me .

Someone came and got me, I went for a ride. Oh I don't feel well, I'm hungry and cold and my ears and head are still hurting me so. I'm so scared, are they taking me somewhere to hurt me again. I don't understand, I can't see, why can't I see? we stop and i hear more people coming toward me it's a lady, she tries to be gentle with me and not hurt me. But just touching me hurts. The nice lady cradles me in her arms and say little puppy, no one will ever hurt you again.

I go yet for another ride. I'm so confused, where are they taking me now. the nice lady talks to me but I don't understand what she is saying the pain in my head is so great. She is carrying me into a building, I hear other dogs and cats. I hear another lady and she sounds sad. What is wrong with mem I could tell something was wrong with the way everyone was talking but I couldn't understand. Then they had a nice man come and see me. He petted me and checked me over, then stuck me with something and it stung alittle. but now the pain is easing. Then two more ladies came and got me, now what are they doing. They are washing may ears and it hurts so, why do my ears hurt so. now they are rubbing something soothing on my ears. I am getting tired. I want to go to sleep the nice lady takes me again for another ride. I'm so sleepy, I go to sleep.

I'm awake, I'm laying on something soft. Theres food, Oh I am so hungry. I can eat and no one to take it away from me. The nice lady is there and petting me. She keeps saying "noel" Noel", oh that must be me, my name is noel.

I now know what happened to me, some very mean people hurt me. they beat me in the head with something and that is why I can't see. I am blind now. And my ears, the mean people cut them off. so I now have no ears.

The nice lady is Frances and she is the pound master- which is where I live, The sad lady is Cissie - I get to go and spendthe night with her. and she named me so I am told. The nice man his name is Dr. Glass and he is my vet.

P.A.w.S. is an organization that adopted me.

***as most of you know I do not own Noel but I am her handler and take her with me to all her public appearances. She goes with me to teach pet safety and pet care in the schools so she is a working girl with her on website www.pawscolumbus.org

Yes Noel is a german shepherd Dog, She is 5 1/2 mths old. She does not live with me, she lives at the Animal Care and Control center (dog Pound) Our center has staff on duty 24 hr a day, She does get to spend the weekends and holidays with me and every thursday is with me. I am her handler and take her to all her public appearances. She is well looked after. One reason that she lives at the center is that she will more than likely have seizures due to trauma to her head. she is brain damaged some. the blindness is due to this and there is someone there always to watch over her. She has been taken to Auburn University Veterinary School and all kinds of test were done on her. She will never regain her sight. Next month she will be spayed. I keep a journal on her. and yes that is me in the picture. There is a $4,000.00 reward leading to the arrest and conviction of whoever did this to her

oodles, you are a beautiful person, inside and out to be caring for this very precious pup. I think Noel's story and picture will haunt me forever. The inhumanity of man to innocent, loving, forgiving creatures is beyond my understanding. I am appalled at her torture. It makes me sick. I only hope that those who did that to Noel have reciprocal treatment.

I am glad that she has such wonderful care. Her story should be told. Noel should be the poster dog against animal abuse. What is her prognosis? Will she ever be able to be adopted? My heart breaks for her.

Thank you for being her angel.

OMG....I HATE the human race. I wish the same fate for the *bleeps* that did that to her. Actually, I wish worse. I wish someone could adopt her. She looks so sweet and nice. How could anyone hurt her (or any other animal for that matter)?? I guess evil people are everywhere.

Thanks for caring for her and loving on her. I just want to pick her up and hug her forever.

Yes it would be nice if someone could adopt her, but she has her own room, They remodled the Kitchen for her she has her own play area and the most important thing is there is 24 hour care for her there and everyone sees her and pets her and she does come and spent the weekends and other days with me, I take her to petsmart, the park, and to all the schools to do pet safety she is pretty here are some pics of some of the people that have donated to her fund. http://www.imagestation.com/picture/sraid53/p254bb84098fc8883a39d2756d81fc266/fc8e50cd.jpg

I can't even say here what I think of the people who did this to Noel. They someday will pay for this I believe. Was anyone caught for this? Penalties are getting more severe(not severe enough though). My last shepherd mix was the nicest dog I have ever seen, and someone had beaten her very badly before dumping her at my house. She was 4 yrs old at the time, she got better but never forgot the beatings she endured....tom

I have adopted 2 Akitas in the last year. One an 8 yo Male, Buddy and the other a few months later a 10 mo. old Female, Geisha. Buddy was a victim of a bitter and ugly divorce eventually landing him abandoned in Montana running free. At some point he was picked up by a shelter in Montana, while there he was attacked by another dog. In the battle his neck was seriously injured by the shelter attandants having to pull the two of them apart. He is still sore and sensitive to this day. He was to be euthanized when Idaho Akita Rescue/Seattle Akita Rescue got together to rescue him. His nickname in rescue became "Grizzor", because he looks like a grizzly bear and walks like Eoyre (sp- winnie the pooh) When I first met Buddy we became great friends, I even fought with my husband to get him. He didn't fight long, once he met him that argument was over. LOL We enjoyed Buddy so much it wasn't long until we brought Geisha into our home. Geisha spent the first 8mos of her life in a crate/4x5 cell. She had never even seen grass and had very little human contact. Her owner planned to drop her and her brother along the side of the round on a cross-country trip when the rescue found them. She stayed with her rescue parents for several months learning many basic things before we were blessed to have her. I never thought of how to teach a dog how to go down stairs. That was fun. She is a pleasure to have, she even helps keep Buddy young and he teaches her proper manners. It is a blessing to have them both. Please refer everyone who wants to add a new friend to thier home and are ready to make a full commitment to save a rescue animal. They come in all breeds, types and etc. Don't let them continue to be abused or euthanized.
