I just wanted to let all of you know that we still are in need of prayers for Blaze (Dixie's brother). He is still not eating and now being fed intravenously on a daily basis. He has lost 12 pounds so far. His test results for Addisons has come back negative but they are now seeing his small intestine inflamed. The results of the biopsy's of his major organs has also come back negative. We do not know why he is not eating. They are taking him to a specialist (internal medicine) today.

While Kathi and Bob were away he had to be kenneled (something he usually never has to do) and he ended up cutting his nose trying to get out in addition to all the other stuff because he had to go potty and couldn't get out of the crate. My heart is so heavy for this beautiful boy. :(

I've already let you know that Blaze is in my prayers, but thought I'd say it once again, Candy. Please let his folks know that lots of people want him to get better, and soon.

Logan :)

Oh my there is so much illness on Pet Talk these days. This is so frightening especially in light of the fact that nothing has been found so far. I certainly do hope the internist can shed some light and treatment can be begun. Twelve pounds is a lot of weight to lose! I know his folks have to be frantic. Please let them know that many here at PT are keeping Blaze in their prayers.

There is definitely inflamation in the lower intestines now. Supposedly it wasn't there during the first week or so of this mysterious situation. Anyway... the specialist thinks he has irritable bowel syndrome. It could be from something he ate and be a one time deal or it could be something he will continue to have for the rest of his life. If it is continual then he will be on a very strict diet. The vet mentioned California Natural would be a good choice of foods for him regardless.

I went and saw him last night. He has lost 12 pounds and his face is starting to get that sunken look to it. His ribs and backbone are showing very predominantly. I wanted to cry but just managed to hug and kiss him so I wouldn't get Kathi crying too. :( The specialist has him on prednisone and said it could be about another week before he starts eating again.

I don't think he is in pain (at least not excruciating pain). He is very week though. :( Thanks for all your prayers and thoughts. They are comforting!

Oh, poor Blaze. At least if it is Irritable Bowel, it can be controlled. Hoping that it is just a one time thing, though. California Natural is supposed to be excellent food.

I know what you mean when you say you could cry looking at him having lost all that weight. In the past, Killian has dropped 15 lbs. in two weeks and it just kills you to have that happen! Even now I try to have extra weight on him to help him weather any future episodes.

Praying that this gets cleared up real soon. Hang in there, Blaze. We're praying!!!

I am so sorry I haven't updated everyone until now. I have been going through my own personal problems the last week or so and haven't been posting much.

Anyway.... Blaze started to eat small portions about a week ago. Daily he has increased his intake and is now able to hold down his normal ration. He has even gained 3 pounds!!!! :D

They are now sure it is irritable bowel. He will remain on prednisone for another 2 or 3 weeks and will stay on a special prescription diet until he gains his weight back (13 pounds in all). Then is he doesn't have any more reoccurances he will be able to eat his regular food again. If he does have another reoccurance then it is a special diet for the rest of his life.

Thanks for all your prayers and supportive thoughts. I believe God hears our prayers and answers. You are a great group of dog lovers whose moral support is invaluable in times of need!
