I am taking Tanner in to be fixed, micro-chipped and have all of his shots. Even though I know that I NEED to do this. There is a little part of me that is worried because he is so young (4 months old) and we have not spent a night apart (the vet keeps him for the night). I took Emily to this vet for her spaying, but I was still worried :( :( :(

I know that I am probably being a little overboard but these are my babies...

Don't worry everything will be ok. Those procedures are extremely routine.
We'll be thinking about you and don't forget to let us know how everything went tomorrow!

yes, I hate when they are away for the night, but it is all for the best. Be brave, he will be back with you soon.

is there any way that they can do the surgery in the morning and you pick him up later the same day? thats how Cassie was done.
the other cats were fixed before I got them, patches and Charlie were only 2 months old! now that I think about it, that IS awfully young!
Im sure Tanner will be fine, but it is worrysome, because like you said, they are our 'babies"!
I worry about mine all the time.

Well I dropped him off at the vet this morning. It was one of the harder things I have done because he looked at me so trustingly that I just wanted to pack him up and take him back home:( :( :(. But at least I know that he will get good care there and I need to have him fixed. They did say that they would phone me later in the afternoon, when everything is finished, and let me know how it went.

Neutering is less difficult/invasive surgery than spaying. I'm surprised the vet won't release a male the same day; most of ours here in the Hudson Valley do. Females stay overnight as a rule.

Some vets spay/neuter when a cat is at least 2 lb, approximately 8-10 weeks. This is not done in this area, but I think some of the shelters in New York City do it.

Good luck with your little guy, and thanks for doing your part to protect the cat population.

Cheryl,
Oh, you poor thing. Even with six cats, I 'know' when one is away...but, I think it is safer/easier for both of you if Tanner is confined at the vets. First, he will be 'all better' when he comes home to you, and YOU won't have to be the one confining him.

Let us know how he is!

Well wishes for Tanner on his "big day" and {{{hugs}}} for his Mommy! Try not to worry...(hard I know!) Before you know it you'll be getting the "all clear" call and Tanner will be home, safe and sound!:)

I just talked with the vet's office and the surgery is finished and Tanner is doing well. :) I just have one night and he is back home :D :D

Thank you for your encouragement (everyone at the office thought I was going a little over board...)

Well I picked up Tanner at the vet's office yesterday and he is doing just fine. As someone described him, he is full of spit and vinager. He is back to bugging Emily and is as much of a cuddle bug as before :D

I want to thank everyone for listening to me worry about him.

Tanner is doing just fine. I look at him now and it is difficult to believe that he was ever put under and given additional pain medication. He is just as lively as before the Sir Jury :D :D
