View Full Version : Oh, no! Not Shiloh!

My so far very healthy, strong active Shiloh has an appointment early Wednesday morning with our favorite lady white coat. On Saturday, we went to pick up a pizza and by the time we came home (5 minutes) she was limping, badly. We made her sit and not move around (believe me not an easy task with her highness). I slept with her in the family room so she wouldn't try to go sleep on the big bed all the way up stairs. By Sunday, she was much better and at times she isn't even limping. She must have just twisted wrong (I hope).

However, as I was comforting her (petting her all over), I found three completely different types of lumps or growths on her. One I was aware of (like a skin tag) and was watching previously, but I proceeded to find two more different kinds. They are located on her right side, her left side and one by her paw. Hopefully, one on the side is a fatty cyst. The other side is irregular and raised. The one near her paw is different. It is a hard small lump, not like a cyst. It is solid. Since I've been on the Canine Cancer bb, I am now paranoid about any lumps, even those that may look fatty, because I've seen that those may not be what they look like. So, now I am freaking out til Wednesday.

I am so upset because this is happening to my "healthy" furbaby. I expect Killian to have problems to be battled and I am ready for those fights. Oh, please, not Shiloh, too!

Take a deep breath, Sue!!! Easy for me to say, isn't it? :p I'm glad the limping stopped, but I know you will be worried sick unitl you get a report from the doctor. I refuse to think that anything can seriously be wrong with your healthy girl and will pray hard that I am right!!!!! Hang in there and know that we will be thinking about you and Shiloh and waiting to hear what the vet has to say!!!

Poor Shiloh! :( I really hope she's ok and it's nothing serious!! Nebo had a small, hard, lump removed from his leg near his paw also when he was 4 months old. It was about the size of a pencil eraser...so far it's turned out to be nothing, just a wart, so I hope it's the same for Shiloh! Finding bumps really freak me out too! :eek: I was at the vet 10 minutes after I found it!

Sue prayers will be on the way for Shiloh for sure! Maybe it was a blessing in disguise that she was limping which in turn allowed you to find these lumps. Most likely all will be fine (again as Logan says - easy for me to say) but we will be thinking of you and Shiloh until you get to see the vet. The waiting is awful, isn't it! {{{hugs}}}

Thanks, Everyone. I've always thought of her as invincible! She looks and acts like it. But since my parents' Bandit has cancer and I've been on that cancer bb ( 5 cancer dogs died in one day last week!), I have this nagging worry in the back of my mind. they describe how something little turns into cancer and I just can't help but wonder. Otherwise, I probably would be thinking nothing much of it. :(

Oh Sue! {Shutter}...I hope the lumps are just fatty cysts. Cody's got a few too. Poor Shilohs's puppy legs! Those limpies just scare the daylights out of you! :( (Story of my life) I'm STILL sleeping in the family room on the couch with Cody so he doesn't climb steps...so I'm with you, girl! Fingers and paws crossed and trying not to panic until Wednesday...{{hugs}}

I'll be thinking of you, Karen! Hehehe. what we don't do for our furpups (and fosters, too)! My couch is so comfy and big enough for either Shiloh or Killian to sleep on the other end. (last night started with Killi on the couch and Shi on the floor and ended with Shi on the couch and Killi on the forbidden couch in the front room, which has now become allowed because dear Killian can have anything he wants, sheesh). Are our dogs spoiled, or what!!!

Thanks, All! (I'm thinking good thoughts and Shiloh just seems too healthy for it to be anything bad.)

Oh, no!! Shiloh's under the weather and Sue's back on the couch!! You certainly deserve the "Mother of the Year" award for all of your hard work and devotion; especially these past several months!! Now, Shiloh you simply must be well!! Cody, Star and Aunt Sandra will be praying with all our might that you get a good report at the white coats! Hopefully the limp is a strain and those bumpies are just little beauty blemishes. We love you sweet Shi. Please get better soon. Love and kisses and slurpy licks from Aunt Sandra, Cutie Cody and Star***Shine:)

And Sue, more and more, due to one critter ailment or another, I seem to be spending more of MY nights on the family room couch too!:rolleyes: It's pretty comfy, just a tad crowded when 1 human, 2 dogs and 2 cats are jockeying for postion!:D

Prayers for Shiloh that everything is ok on Wednesday. I don't blame you, I would be in a complete state of panic--I'm sure it's nothing, and she'll be back to being her old self in no time!!!!
Paws crossed for Shiloh--keep us posted!!

Until Wednesday, think of our beloved Gracie, who had a scary lump on her side (and Great Danes have such a close, tight coat that it was very obvious) and it turned out just to be a fatty cyst. She lived to a ripe old (much older than Danes are "supposed" to live) age, with a then silly-looking- once-we-knew-it-was-harmless lump!

Hope Shiloh's lumps are just as harmless!

Sudilar
02-10-2003, 02:37 PM
Killian has lumps. They have all been fatty tumors. Two of Shiloh's three are different than his. I wish I wouldn't think about this so much til Wed. I'm sure it's ok.

The power of positive thinking ......... we are all thinking "only warts", "only warts" - lets hope it works.

Paws (and fingers) crossed for your darling girl.

Cody would squish me if he was on the couch with me but for some reason I've been a light sleeper lately and realized after all these years, that the big galooty SNORES like a trumbone-hooter AND dreams and whines and scrapes his paws against the carpet when he "runs"! What a riot! You're right, the things we do for love!I'll be thinking of YOU all day on Wednesday, too, Sue!

Oh Sue! I can just imagine the panick. Dusty has a lump on his head and the vet said it was nothing but I still made him remove it and do a biopsy when he was 5 months old. I was soooo worried. It turned out to be an ingrown hair growth that skin grew over and formed a lump. :confused:

I am praying Shiloh's will be nothing serious too. {{{{HUGS}}}}

Please keep us posted. Tomorrow is going to be a busy day of prayer with Shiloh and Logan's Murphy both going to the white coats.

I hope the lumps turn out to be nothing to worry about. Keep us updated on what the vet says. We'll be saying a little prayer for her today.:)

Shiloh is back.

Her leg seems to be a soft tissue injury, nothing major.

One lump is a skin tag, non cancerous.

Another appears to be a cyst, because of the oils in her skin. She has a great, shiny coat, so she has a lot of oil in her skin.

The last is "strange". This one concerns the vet. It will need to be removed and biopsied. It is on her leg, near her paw.

I will schedule a dental to clean her teeth and Dr. will remove the growths and have the one on the leg biopsied. She'll probably have it done next week, after her leg is healed.

Logan
02-12-2003, 10:06 AM
Mostly good news, Sue!!! :) Now, how are you feeling? Still worried? I know you are and won't feel totally comfortable until you have that final diagnosis next week. We will keep Shiloh in our prayers and hope for a good report from the biopsy. :)

Please give Shiloh a hug for me Sue and tell her there are a lot of Pet Talkers giving her mommy support and {{{{HUGS}}}}. ;)

Shiloh is scheduled for surgery on Wednesday. I will think positive thoughts.

Rachel
02-12-2003, 03:42 PM
Here's hoping that this one too will be nothing serious. We don't need any more worries on this board, do we? I know we all will be able to exhale a bit after we get the official word that it isn't going to cause her any problems. In the mean time, try not to worry.

Pam
02-12-2003, 04:14 PM
Sue, I am happy that two out of three have been dismissed as not serious by the vet. Let's all pray that the biopsy won't reveal anything scary with the third one. I know it's impossible to do, but try to relax. We will be thinking of you and Shiloh while we wait. Like you once said, you are really are learning way too much about veterinary medicine! {{{hugs}}}

Thanks for asking!
Shiloh's limp is gone. She enjoyed running in the snow a bit without me putting her on a long lead!
Lump removal is a go for Wednesday. This will be the first time that I am leaving her at the vet. This will be hard for me. I know that Killian goes willingly and behaves well, but my Shiloh!!!

I am really hoping that Shiloh's lump is fine. I think she'll make it through like a trooper. Does she have to stay overnight?

I am so glad her limp is gone. Be a brave girl, Shiloh. We love you, sweety.

Sudilar
02-16-2003, 10:32 PM
No, she won't have to stay overnight. :)They always send them home with me. I was wondering how the anesthetic will affect her. Killian is always very jumpy and wants to go out a lot, after surgery. :eek:

Dropped my Shiloh off at the vet already. She will have the three lumps removed and have the suspicious one sent out for biopsy. They'll clean her teeth while they're at it, since she's under. They were going to run a liver panel, etc. on her too to be sure nothing is going on with her. Worried about the suspicious lump, though.

Logan
02-19-2003, 09:53 AM
Sue, we'll be thinking about Shiloh this morning and hoping that everything will be just fine. I know you are a nervous wreck! I can completely sympathize! Hang in there, and let us know when you get the sweet girl home with her "pearly whites". Murphy had her dental cleaning while she was under last week too, and her teeth look so much better!!!

Hugs to Mom and Killian while you wait for Shiloh to be finished today!! :)

I JUST GOT A CALL!!!
The vet said that all three lumps were removed and the one on her leg was a CYST!!!!! She cut it open to be sure and it is a CYST. She said it's an odd place to have a cyst, but ya never know!!! No biopsy necessary!!!!! I am so relieved!! I was really worried about this one. Shiloh is still under and getting her teeth cleaned, though. The vet just had to call and give me the good news!!!!! Woohoo! Thanks for the prayers!

Yayy. I get to pick her up at 4:00! The house is so quiet without her. However, Killian got to eat his food without being bothered (so, of course, he didn't eat it all :rolleyes: ) He has been looking all over for her and sniffing me. Thank you everyone for seeing me through this ordeal with a happy ending!!!!

Shiloh is back to her normal self, eating like a horse, conniving treats from everyone, pestering Killian, playing catch, running through the mud..........she's back!!!!!!!!!!
