View Full Version : Graemer is sick! :(

I have not a clue as to why he is acting the way he is. I have an appointment at noon today to check him out. He is not eating (is using the litter box!) and will not move much. He can hardly meow....its so pitiful. I am taking him for a checkup and temperature reading to rule out infection. My guess is that he had hurt his neck or leg joint as a result of his jumping off doors etc. He is his own worst enemy. The visit will put my mind at ease to a certain degree, even if they find nothing to treat. He looks so uncomfortable and very thin. This is day two for him, and I just don't want it to get any worse! $$$$$$$$$$$ !
Wish me luck!
Oh my!! Sallyanne prayers are already on the way for your sweetie pie. I am hoping that the vet can find the cause for this very quickly and that it is something easily treatable. Being in pain can definitely be a reason to not eat. I am sure you have given him the best non-professional exam that you can (feeling joints, etc.) Does he seem to flinch? I'm glad he is using the litterbox. At least that is a good sign. Oh dear! I will be on pins and needles until you return. {{{{{HUGS to you little Graemer}}}}}

Ohh, poor Graemer - and you! :( Not knowing what is wrong is the worst. I hope the vet can find the reason and treat it!
Get better real soon, Graemer! :)
Best of luck!!

Oh, I hope he starts to feel better real soon. :( Hope the vet can figure out what is bothering him, so your mind can be put to ease and he can be treated....please let us know what the vet says when you return...fingers, toes and legs crossed ;)

I just feel so helpless. I am sure the Vet will rule out some things quickly and since Grammy Crackers is walking, is using the litter box, I suspect when the vet starts tugging on limbs, he will come to a conclusion! Of course the temperature will be important too. You know, when it is your dear pet, you feel so out of sorts because they cannot tell you where it hurts.
I will keep you posted and thanks for your positive thoughts!
CATS !!!!!!

Come on Graemer! You've got to tell the white coats what's wrong and if you need medication please take it without a fuss. We're all keeping our fingers and paws crossed!

Prayers on the way and the cat boys have their paws crossed. Luke used to get on the top of the door like Graemer. I think he's growing out of it now he's older. Please keep us posted.

Well, I just got back from the Vet. Graemer has a fever of 104....not too bad and of course, the Vet was not able to find anything wrong with him except a sensitive back/spine.... so he prescribed antibiotics and a back rub twice a day. He showed me how to massage his spine. Our guess is that he has a fever from the discomfort and that he just needs some rest and a few pills for a few days in a row. He is ok, just not his usual obnoxious self! He didn't even try to get out of his container...or off the table....etc. He just wanted to be held....awwwwwwwwww. Here he comes now......Mr. Sad Sack. I think he will be fine.
Thanks for your concerns!

Good to hear he'll be okay! And extra cuddling is too hard a burden to bear! ;)

I think he just acted like that so he could get a back rub! I'm glad everything is basically ok with him. I'm sure the meds and massages will help out.:)

SalleyAnne....just came on and saw this post. So sorry! Edwina would like to know if you could please let Gabe observe the kitty massage? She also says snuggle Graemer for her!
I'm glad that the vet didn't think it was anything serious. Those massages sound pretty nice actually. I think he might grow to like them and may milk this thing. Seriously, I know you are pretty relieved and we all are too. Getting the antibiotics down should prove a little more challenging and not as much fun for him as the back rubs. What is a normal kitty temperature? I think it's around 102 for dogs but I'm not even sure about that.

Sallyanne, I also missed this until now. I am glad that I could read already what the vet said. However I would feel worried too. A calm aby just is a contradiction in itself. If he's walking and using the litterbox however I hope it's nothing serious.
Filou does not jump as high as he did (he also has been on top of doors or falling down from the top of the cat tree because he was so crazy he lost control), so Graemer will be a little more quiet with the years.
Filou sends his coldest nosekissies and I send hugs to you.

It is a relief that the vet says he is basically ok. Hope he is back to normal self very soon.

It is so odd to see him this still for hours on end. Do I dare try to take his temperature?:(

I don't think I could bring myself to disturb him with an intrusive thermometer, not when he looks so sweet all curled up in the sun.......
I wonder if you can use those ear-type thermometers on kitties; the ones they sell now for kids. Any vet techs out there know the answer to that question? Anyway, I sure hope Grammy Crackers feels better soon. It must be odd to have such a quiet kitty around when you're used to craziness. (Around here, it's just the opposite :D )
Another thing - since they're coming up with more and more medicines given by patch, I think they should try to develop veterinary meds in patch form. You could just shave a little bit back by their shoulders, where they can't lick, and put on an antibiotic patch, instead of stressing the poor kitties out even more when you're trying to help them. Maybe someday.......

sorry I missed the "worrying" part, but good to have the update right away. Glad it is not too serious.:) But don't let my guys hear about the cat massage therapy or I'll have a dozen cats limping around just for attention.:D

Poor Graemer, I guess all the travelling across the US and Europe has tired him out. I hope he gets lots of quality time with you SAS and that he is feeling better real soon!:)

I'm also just now reading this thread. I'm so glad that it's nothing serious and that Graemer should be his spunky self in no time.:) I also worry about my Sunny because he also loves to jump up high and I'm afraid that one of these days he's going to really hurt himself. :( Please take your medicine like a good boy and get well soon Graemer. :)

So sorry to hear Graemer is feeling unwell. There is nothing sadder than a sick kitty. Positive vibes from the northerners.
How's little Grammy Crackers today? Any change in his activity level? Are you having any trouble getting the meds down? We are all thinking of you little one and hoping that you are enjoying those massages and will be back to your old self real soon!

And yes, I still have a few "greens from Christmas" around .
As you can see, Graemer is up to his old tricks this morning. He is still a tiny bit quiet but coming around. He is eating dry food, drinking and using the litter box.
He is easy to pill. Miley is another story. Graemer lets anyone touch him anywhere. The Vet just loves him. And so do I!!!!
I will continue his pills for the next few days, just in case it is bacterial - Like I said, he is still not 100% but much better than yesterday and last night. All he did was sleep.
Thanks for your support!

Hey Graemer, today you look much more like yourself. Filou also had one or 2 infections which he had to sleep off a day or two.
I'm sure you will be fine tomorrow with some extra treats and massages:)

I'm so glad that naw-tee little Grammy Crackers is feeling better today. :) I just can't imagine him quiet and sleeping as much as you said, and when you described him as "sad sack" my heart just broke. That is not a normal description of our lively, active Graemer. And like Pam said, that picture is worth 1,000 words. He's definitely feeling better today. :D
