The memorial service today at Johnson Space Center for the shuttle was very touching. The people on the shuttle were such interesting people. Watching the kids of these people was probably the saddest part, although the Israeli astronaut's father just about killed me.

It was really tastefully done (with the exception of the TV cameras constantly panning the mourners) and ended with Bush speaking (and a quite moving speech I might add...it kind of surprised me) and a Navy Petty Officer ringing the Navy bell 7 times one for each victim and then a flyover in the missing man formation.

I saw it too. The ringing of the bell 7 times and the missing man flyover really got me. It's like the playing of taps; makes me cry every time. I was glad they included a rabbi in the service too.

I told my school roomie that the only thing that would have gotten to me anymore would have been if they had played Taps or Amazing Grace.

I missed it but am glad to hear it was done tastefully.

Gets me everytime. I'm usually fine until I see this, then just hand me the tissues.

Isn't it awe inspiring?? But you're right it gets you everytime. I'm telling you it's right up there with Taps and Amazing Grace. Taps is the worst though...I'm just a mess with that...especially when I read the lyrics and found out the story behind the song.
