Well I don't get frecked out by much when it comes to my pets, usually just handle what comes my way Yesterday really got me, about 2 am wed. Merlin started vomiting and kept it up till 6am Ran totally out of blankets (even my bed).About noon he drank water and chicken broth I went to town leaving Ben watching him he did it again about 2, I was in the drive way when it happened. I put him out and he seemed to be having trouble walking. It was like his back legs we paralized. He slept till about 6 pm I gave him a 1/2 cup watered down chicken broth. he still just layed there, about every half hour i gave him more. It took a lot of encouragement to go do the last out, but he did and it was a nasty diarreah type. He slept on his blanket on the floor (couldn't get on the bed). I really thought I'd be going to the vet today, but he's alert and except for getting up or down to sit he's Merlin. infact as I took my bath today he crawled up in my bed.
QUESTION: Can they get the flu?

Did you call the vet and describe what happened and ask if he should be seen? I hope he is feeling fine now!!

He is fine now infact when i took my bath this morning he was on my bed. He just came in from running Lady in to the fence (his favoite thing to do) . Hes just like one of the kids one day flu I guess. all systems functioning normal , I am keeping him on moist food a day or two, just incase. He did take a tumble tuesday morning wondering if that caused this, he slipped on the ice by the door and crashed into the door jamb hard on the hind quarters. Hes jumping on and off the couch fallowing hubby as he installs my hardwood floor in my bedroom.
The things these "kids"put us though.

Boy what a scare that was. I am glad he is much better now. Yes, sometimes dogs can just get sick but it is fairly uncommon. Most of the time there is another problem that causes a dog to become ill. I sounds like he maybe ate something he should not of or possibly got poisoned. Some vomiting is ok, but what you described about him having trouble walking is not normal. Keep a good eye on him & I hope he still feels better.

I was told by vets that dogs can get viruses just like us. The only difference is they get different ones than we do. Hope he is feeling better! About the only illness that can pass between dogs and people is strep. My aunt is a yorkie breeder and she had to have 6 dogs and 4 kids all treated with antibiotics at the same time for strep. It just would not go away until they ALL took medicine. (You can't really tell if a dog has strep, the vet has to test them.)

Glad Merlin is feeling better. I can imagine the scare you felt. I am good at the training but when it comes to medical I usually don't do very well. I usually call my husband!
