Yesterday was Martin Luther King Jr day in America. It is the day America honors the efforts of Dr. King in bringing the issue of slavery and promoting civil rights to the front battle lines. Our country has come a long way since then.

Well the day has a different meaning for my family. It is the day we got our own Martin! Since we got him on Martin Luther King day three years ago and he was all black, my son wanted to call him Martin. We all agreed. To celebrate we had a little cake and sang happy birthday to him. We even gave him and the two dogs a small sliver (ever so small) to celebrate. I didn't get any pictures since my camera batteries were dead but my son did manage to get one a few weeks ago. The batteries were dead because my son forgot to shut the camera off when he was done using it!

This is our Martin - Marty for short! Also know by my Mother in Law as Mr. Fat Cat! He weights almost 13 pounds but really doesn't look over weight! He is just a big boy!!!

Awww, Martin, what a pretty black kitty you are! And what an appropriate name giving the date and color. :)

Sounds like you really take after Tubby. Tubby was about 3 years old when he acquired the name Tubby. Not fat, just a little tubby!

Hope you had a great "birthday" Mr. Fat Cat! :)

Does Martin get along well with your dogs?
I think I remember you posting some photos of them together sometime ago, maybe last summer?

Marty and Dusty as best buds! They will actually wrestle around on the living room floor together and they even play chase. Of course it is always Dusty trying to catch Marty but he hides in those small places. We have a hole cut in our basement door so he can *escape* anytime he wants. But he never does!

Marty and Dixie are buds too. She will lay there for hours and let him clean her. When he's done her whole head is usually wet! He likes to curl up next to Dixie and sleep. ;) All in all Marty is the Purrrrrfect compliment to my dogs!

P.S. I am sorry I don't post more about him. I am more of dog person while my hubby is the passionate cat person. I love Marty dearly though!
