I would like to introduce Bella's new little brother, Ripley! For those who don't yet know, I adopted this sweetie pie yesterday from the same shelter that my daughter got her cat, Dandy. To say things are going well is an understatement. Bella is enthralled with this little guy and he is smitten with her. There is a lot of activity in this house with all of the 'getting acquainted' activity!! He had a little bath when he got home here yesterday and my hubby shaped up some of the shaved little body that the shelter had to do on him. He was a complete matted mess - the worst I have ever seen. He was excellent on the grooming table! He has not had any accidents in the house except one poop and pee in his first hour here. I think I can also put my fears to rest about my kitties. They aren't afraid of him at all. Trevor did a hiss yesterday but both have come right up to him and sniffed noses but there was no aggression on his part. (Fingers crossed here). This morning I fed him and Bella side by side and there was no food aggression by either one. I think I have to pinch myself to believe that he is real. More pictures will follow when I get my camera later today!! :)

I , of course, being Ripleys half-sister got to spend lots of time wth him yesterday and he has such a good disposition. Whoever owned him previously will certainly be missing out on this little guy...I dont think they ever stopped to look under all of those fluffy mats to see the adorable little boy that was hiding under all of it. He is surely lucky to have fallen into the arms of his new owners...his new life will be an awesome one and his new owners are surely lucky to have stumbled upon him! Happy endings!! :)

Pam, my very first pet that was all my own - was a miniature black poodle. My how I loved that little girl!

So I am very jealous. but at the same time very happy that this sweet baby boy will now have a home to call his own and be spoiled to pieces.

Congratulations - it was just meant to be!! I have to laugh, you look pretty "smug" and pleased in your picture - and rightly so!

Oh my what fun we are having! These two (Bella and Ripley) are going to sleep good again tonight! LOL! I am simply amazed at the way the cats have adjusted to Ripley. If someone would have been here earlier they would have seen an amazing sight. Ripley was on my lap on the sofa, Andy was on the right side of me and Bella was on the left. Trevor was heaven knows where. He seems interested in the little guy but doesn't want to appear that he cares enough to investigate. He said 'that's how cool cats act.'

Yesterday I was worried that he didn't know how to play. Today he actually played ball a little with Bella and me. I am SO PROUD of my girl. She is sharing her toys and food and her mommy's attention with this little character and being such a sweet hostess.

Gini, I think he is a small miniature. He measures 12" at the shoulders. Anything over 10" is considered a miniature, on up to 15." Then 15" and over is a standard. He weighs 12 lbs. and you can feel all of his ribs, but he seems to have a good appetite. Strangely, he doesn't care for doggie biscuits. Maybe that will change. Gini, that smug look was actually a smirk. He has quite a time deciding if he wants to sit in my lap or stand in my lap. Maybe he wants to be ready for a quick get-away! LOL! I was waiting for him to decide! LOL!

They have had so much fun in the snow today (only about 2") and I can't wait to take some pictures. Thank you all for your good wishes. I am still pinching myself!

What a sweetie, Pam!!:) He is just precious! And isn't that great that all of the furry ones are getting along so well!! Of course, I'm not surprised that our beautiful Bella is the consummate hostess!!:D Ripley couldn't have landed in a more loving lap! And good for the kitties too, being so "understanding!" We're so happy for you, dear friend! And I love the puppy cut! Mini's look so adorable in their puppy cuts!:D

This was later on. I was outside and my daughter caught them watching me. This little guy has become my shadow. Bella always was my shadow, and now I have two. :)

Thanks again everyone. You are all so sweet. :) Bella is a bit embarrassed by all of the flattery :o but her mom feels that she is quite beautiful too and she's being so sweet to her new little brother. Sara, I do believe he is 100% poodle. He is my sixth poodle and I see nothing in him that doesn't look 'poodle' and he acts just like a proper poodle. LOL! His tail curls up a little which I believe is as a result of the way he was docked as a puppy. This is the only difference I have noted between him and my others. I think he is probably about 2-3 years old but he has an appointment with the vet today so I will go by what he thinks. He selected Trevor's birthday for us since his beginnings were of unknown origin, being found at a pet shop.

He continues to be a sweetie. He keeps his crate clean and does his business all outside, with the exception of a little misplaced poopie yesterday on the living room floor. :o When I said NO he cowered and ran away. Surely someone cared for him at some point in his life as he is just so sweet. The matted condition of his fur (you would NEVER have believed it if you had seen him at the shelter before they shaved him) would lead you to believe otherwise though. His background will remain a mystery.

This particular shelter had many purebred looking dogs. The day I took Ripley home two new ones had come in - a pomeranian and a shih tzu. Sara, do you think Gavin would like a sister??? :D :D

Pam Ripley's a sweetie and it sounds like him and Bella are doing great together. I can't wait to here more about them and hopefully he'll bring you the same amount of joy that my little guy has.

Pam

We saw the White Coats today and Ripley got a clean bill of health (no worms, no heartworms, no Lyme, etc.) He will get the big snip on Feb. 7th. :o The vet estimated that he is 3 years old so we will go with that. The little guy has had two mistakes in the house today so I can't really say that he is completely housebroken, but he certainly knows that he did something wrong and definitely recognizes the word NO. I think he just doesn't stay outside long enough. I have started walking with him in the yard, on a leash, to coax him to stay out a little longer and direct him to the places he has gone before but with his shaved little body and the temp in the 20's today with snow on the ground I can't say that I blame him! I know he'll catch on quickly. Bella is still quite amazed that he is here as are the kitties. :)

Oh Pam I am just thrilled! I feel almost as if I got a new dog myself! You just mentioned not too long ago now neat it was to see the transistion from 1 to 2 to 3 etc. pets. I remember when you just had Andy and Trevor, and then the joyous day came that a most adorable, white, fluff ball who you named Bella entered your home and your heart. Now it's a darling little rescue pup who could not be any cuter or fit in any better! Pam, my friend, I am just thrilled for you. Ripley is incredibly beautiful and adorable and he sounds like he was born to be with you.

Congrats Pam! Congrats Bella! (I am sure she's thrilled to bits about having a play buddy) Congrats Ripley!

By the way, I LOVE his name! Did he come with it or did you name him?

Hugs from Leslie, Graham, Kersey & Minion

I too remember the day you brought Bella home and the thread asking for name suggestions for her! Wow! I can't believe it! I am glad the kitties are taking it ok too. Lots of warm wishes and hugs to you, dear friend and your newest family member! Give all 4  ;) :D of your kids some lovins for me!

Pam,

Loved the picture of Bella & Ripley watching you from the
window. Great pic. :) Must say, that Bella is looking gorgeous
and so slim & trim. About Ripley's mistakes in the house, I
made the same connection myself with Moki. He often did not
stay out long enough to do all his business. Sometimes they
just need more time to just sniff around I guess.
Ripley looks all poodle to me & he's a great addition to your
furry gang. Congrats again on finding this little guy.:D

I think Ripley might be getting the idea of "outside" with his poopies. This morning I let him out and he did both numbers and then after he ate I was planning to take him out again and he actually walked over to the back door. Often when I open the door he will look behind him to see if I am following. Today he didn't. Just walked right down into the yard and pooped! YAY! I was in the yard at 7:00 a.m. praising this tiny little guy like some kind of nut. The neighbors will have me committed. :D

The 'down' thing is that he has coughed a couple of times in the last day or two and I even mentioned it to the vet. It is not a big horrible cough but sounds like how a dog sounds when they pull on the leash and sort of choke themselves. He felt he might be on the tail end of kennel cough. Well, last night in the middle of the night my Bella started coughing and she still is today. I think we can assume that it really is kennel cough and now she has it. :( My Pumpkin (RB) developed this once after we had boarded him while on vacation. It was years and years ago so I don't remember if we had medication for him or not. I'm going to start a Kennel Cough thread to see if anyone can share their knowledge with me. Being a Sunday, I can't reach my vet and it is not something worthy of an Emergency Vet.

One last thing - I watched Animal Precinct last night. (I don't know why I do because it usually upsets me so much). One of the stories was about a matted white poodle who was left outside for 4 WEEKS tied to a post after her humans (and I use that term loosely) took off for parts unknown. If anyone saw AP last night you got a good idea of how Ripley looked when I first saw him. Just awful!

Oh Leslie, we named the little guy. Actually my hubby did. At the shelter he was only a number.

Hi Pam,

I'm so happy things are going good. I hope little Ripley doesn't take as long as Peka did to stop having accidents!

As far as kennel cough, it is best to let them just get over it without medication. The vet we use at work gives us medication when we have dogs who have kennel cough but my vet disagrees with that. I've also read on the internet that its better to just let them get over it without meds. You're safe waiting until tomorrow to call your vet and ask what he advises. I would just go with what he says if you trust him.

I've had several fosters with kennel cough and it has always gone away quickly. When a dog at work gets it though, they have to be isolated for 10 days and put on meds.

Hi everybody - Ripley here!! I just wanted to let you know that I am settling in and having so much fun. My new family loves me and I love them. :) My big Sis, Bella, is so sweet to me and lets me share her toys and her food and we gets along soo good. Here's a picture my Mommy took of us havin' breakfast. I don't gots an official doggie bowl of my own yet. My Mommy said she'll get me one next time she goes to the doggie/kitty store.

http://www.imagestation.com/picture/sraid48/p76eb7a370419658d8e9ef4843fed3367/fcbb6211.jpg

I does all of my poopies and pees outside now. I must have been taught that at my former home but I don't remember much about my life there. I think I wants to forget it 'cuz they didn't take very good care of me. One of these days when my hair grows back in I'm gonna look a little better but my new humans thinks I'm as cute as can be right now. :o I am happy to meet alla you other doggies and kitties here at PT. My mommy says you are all so sweet. Gee, can my life get any better!
P.S. Our coughs are getting better. We don't cough at all except after we have been runnin' in the yard. My mommy tells us we shouldn't be runnin' but it so much fun we just can't help ourselves.

Pam, it is so nice to hear how smoothly Ripley has settled in. Hard to believe it - you are very lucky. I really think pets can sense when they have it made and they give up their little games and get with the program. I know that some new pets NEVER get it!

I am glad to hear that their coughs have improved and that you are on the verge of having a good night's sleep!

Hope all continues to run smoothly.
