Mom told me this morning that I need to check Bull's ears cuz he was scratching them a lot last nite. Figuring they were just dirty I checked them. In his left ear the skin was real flaky, like he had dry skin or something. Does anyone know what could have caused it? Is it something I should worry about?

Was it inside his ear or on the outside-like on the tips? Does his ear smell bad? usually ear infections smell pretty bad!
There was a cocker spaniel at work that had flaky skin on his ears around the tips and it was extremely itchy and reddish. It turned out to be scabbies. It is a type of mange/mite that IS comtagious to people. The cockers whole family got it! It probably isn't scabbies but thought I would just let you know!

Does it smell bad? What color are the flakes? Does it look like dried puss or is it brown/black? Does it hurt him if you touch/sqeeze his ear? sound like he might have a ear infection but can't tell with out seeing it.

The flakes look like dry skin. I rubbed it with a q-tip to get the dry skin off and he didn't react very much (he did pull away some) I'm calling the vet today because he is acting like he feels all around bad.

It was a fungal infection in the inner ear. He got some med and some ear wash to raise the PH in his ear.

I am so glad that you took him to the vet and it wasn't anything serious!
