What a gorgeous, healthy and happy Cockatiel boy you are, Sparky! Love that photo of you admiring yourself in your mirror! If I were as beautiful as you I'd be admiring myself too, hehe

Speaking of beautiful! How beautifully your family embraced and honored the true essence of Christmas, the giving spirit, that wonderful Christmas Eve some time ago; opening up their home and hearts to a creature so in need of comfort and healing; providing him with happiest life imaginable! Your Mom knew the moment she laid eyes on you that it was meant to be, and so it was...


I didn't know what to expect that first night. But when I opened the cage door, Sparky walked right onto my arm and then up to my shoulder.


That first night, he and I watched a movie because my boyfriend was away on business.

So much for being a biter and a fighter!:p

It pains me to think you were so callously dumped by your former "human," and over the Christmas no less! And no doubt he/she was less than truthful in describing you for you truly were a diamond in the rough, just waiting for that family meant to be yours to find their way to you, a family would allow your true inner spirit to shine through! Well, his/her loss is your family's huge gain, having a feathered family member as beautiful, as sweet and loving, as special as you, bringing so much joy and laughter to their lives.

And wow, how you've thrived under their care...packing on some weight, your plumage so vibrant, enjoying life to the max: hitching a ride on your humans' shoulders and playing tug of war with your toys, joyfully whistling a tuneful song, not to mention sharing a nice meal with them come dinnertime!:D


Sparky likes to dine with the family- he'll sit on a shoulder eating rice and making clicking sounds while we eat or watch TV.

Ahh yes! Life is good! Your family is so very blessed, Sparky, having a feathered family as special as you in their lives! You truly are a treasure, sweetheart, and so very deserving of your big day in the spotlight!

Dear Sparky, you are gorgeous! You're absolutely stunning, with those colorful feathers and that sweet face with those lovely big dark eyes and that beak with what looks like a big smile (and probably is!). And what a story you have to tell! One evening just before Christmas your dear Mom-to-be had the urge to visit the Seattle Animal Shelter. There you were, huddled in a grungy little cage with no toys, dirty water, and a dish of old seeds on the floor. You had just been dumped outside the shelter by some cruel sub-human, with a note saying "He's old, he's noisy, and he BITES!" How could Mom NOT take you home?! So, HOME you went with her, and your life has since turned around completely for the better! That first night, she didn't know what to expect, but she opened the cage door, and you walked right onto her arm and then up to her shoulder. You weighed next to nothing, which had been concealed by your feathers. You watched a movie together because her boyfriend was away.

You've turned out to be quite the character! You love whistling military drill tunes off-key and spending time in your shoe-box on the cage wall, whittling away at it from the inside. You also love to look at your gorgeous self in mirrors. You use a frying pan as a bathtub! You like to dine with the family and watch TV with them. You got a clean bill of health from the vet once you put some weight back on. In spite of the note left with you, Mom doesn't think you're that old, you're definitely not noisy, and the only time you bite is if you're cornered and scared. She's so glad you came home with her that night. You're the best Christmas present ever! You love each other very much, don't you. What a wonderful love-filled home you share!

Congratulations, Sparky, on being POTD! You are so gorgeous, brilliant, adorable and precious! Divine Intervention brought you to your wonderful human parent who has given you a new lease on life ~ full of happiness, love, fun, treats and safety! :love: Over the decades, many of the small animals we have adopted from the Humane Society came with the same type of stupid story ("too aggressive" or "unfriendly") and it's always been proven WRONG the first day we brought our new little friend home! BTW, Sparky, you are so photogenic, you should have your own calendar ~ you are just darling ~ no wonder you love mirrors! We had to laugh at your human parent's description of your "bath routine"! We have a little rescued bird who has a funny, quirky bath routine, too, and it's utterly charming to watch! :) Sending all best wishes for a continued happy, healthy, fun, safe life, Sweetie!
