I am so happy that I found an animal rights group on my campus at UW-Madison. We call ourselves the Madison Coalition for Animal Rights and our website is located at http://www.sit.wisc.edu/~mcar/ . We are raising money to attend the Liberation Now! The National Student Animal Rights Conference which has its website at http://www.defendanimals.org/libnow/ . I am so so so excited to meet animal rights activists on a national level! We have some pressing issues relating to animal rights at our university. Right now there aren't alternatives to dissection and daily atrocities are committed by the UW Regional Primate Center. At the conference we will be in the company of more experienced activists who can tell us what worked for them to bring about awareness and important changes. Based on the current amount of funding we have, it will cost each of us seven individuals between $112-135. I'm upset that the university didn't offer us more funding (well not the university itself but the "Associated Students of Madison" ppl.) This event so directly relates to our goals and though our group is a small one we are very dedicated individuals. We will know within the next two weeks whether the conference organizers themselves will grant our group some money for travel. I surely hope they do else I can’t necessarily make the trip. If all else fails we will try some fundraising. Ahhhh, college life! :D
