View Full Version : Bandit #1 is terminal

My parents didn't know that there was one more report to come back on Bandit. It is terminal lymphosarcoma. Because of it's location (in all the vessels) chemo is useless. Please pray that an impossible miracle happens. Please pray that they can survive the loss of another beloved Great Pyr at such a young age (20 months) in just 6 short months since the passing of their 5 yr. old. They are seeing the specialist on Monday. I will update when I find out more. They are devastated.

Sue, I am in tears at this report. I can only imagine the pain your parents are feeling at this diagnosis when the pain of losing another precious pup in the prime of life is only 6 months old.
I pray God will give them the strength to deal with this and that Bandits remaining days be comfortable and happy because he has the love of your very special mom and dad.

Dear Sue:
I'm so very sorry to hear the latest news about Bandit. I do hope that a miracle is still possible, I'll be praying for one.

If you read this post, please open your direct line to Heaven, the good wishes of your sweet souls have been very helpful to other pups before.

Sue,
I hardly know what to say at a time like this. :( I guess we were all so relieved that Bandit came through the surgery successfully that we really never concentrated on the results of the biopsy. All I can tell you is that your whole family, you included, are in my thoughts and prayers and that Bandit is at the TOP of the prayer list. I do not want him to suffer, and if God sees fit to keep him with us for a while, we would be so grateful. Please let your parents know how devastated we all are for them and for Bandit and that we are thinking of them with great hope.

My thoughts are with you, your family and dear Bandit. Maybe the specialist can offer some hope. I will stay positive and pray that God blesses Bandit with more time to love and be loved. I'm so sorry.:(:(

Sue,
I really don't know what to say. I was so happy for Bandit
and your parents that he had come through surgery o.k., I
really didn't think about more test results. If God does need
his Angel Bandit back, I hope He also gives you & your folks
the strength & courage it will take to let him go. I will pray
for strength and for healing. I am so very sorry at this news.

Bandit is having difficulty breathing a bit and can't get comfortable at night. He still enjoys his walk and barking at all who pass the front windows. Tomorrow he sees the specialist and I told her to ask about some cancer treatment called Navy Protocol that someone recommended on the cancer board.
Thanks for all your prayers and for asking about him!

Bandit went to the specialist today. He took two radiographs. The dr. said that he doesn't look ready to die yet!! He has a rare malignant skin lymphosarcoma. He vet said that there are less than 10 dogs in the world who have this condition. I still don't know what the technical name is or even if they have one. The vet is in contact with all types of drs. and vet schools so my parents are getting a lot of imput on Bandit's condition. They don't have a clue how quickly it will overcome him. When his breathing gets bad, though, they will drain his chest cavity to relieve the problem. So, all in all, the news is a guarded OK for now. Little miracles, I'll take them!
Thank you for all your prayers!

We'll keep praying Sue!!! Bandit is one fighter!!! And it sounds like this specialist is doing everything in her/his power to help him!!:) I can't believe it...only 10 cases in the world. Give Bandit a hug for me when you see him!! {{{hugs}}}

If they haven't yet, ask them to contact Tufts Veterinary School/hospital in Grafton, MA - they have world-reknowned experts. My friend was able to get answers from them and no one else when her foundling pup, a Saint Bernard mix, died suddenly within hours of acting sick at the age of three. It turned out that he had been poisoned, and they were able to tell her what kind of poison and that someone had probably put it out for coyotes (they live in a very rural area) and Tucker found it. It was such a relief for her to know, as she had two other dogs and several cats, and was worried that it might be something contagious.

I told my parents to ask about Navy Protocol that Tufts was working with, but it would not be appropriate for Bandit's treatment. I believe this specialist has contact with all the vet schools on this rare case. There is so much research going on for our pets now. It's amazing!

He went to the specialist yesterday and had another radiogram done. It seems that the meds are keeping the fluid level down (thank God). The specialist was very happy! Of course, my parents were elated!!! Bandit is acting just fine. The vet said that he is doing very well.
Next visit in one month!

Bandit update:
We have a miracle working here! The radiograph was clear for fluid build up in the chest. The meds seem to be helping. The specialist was very happy!!!! Since this is uncharted territory (rare cancer), the treatment is experimental, no one to compare with. His next check up is in two months!! Please pray that the miracle continues.
My parents say that Bandit is doing so well because of all your Pet Talkers' prayers. They are eternally grateful. I think so, too!
