Dearest Sophia and Mighty Mike, what a beautiful pair of Belgian Horses you are, absolutely precious indeed! You are both so sweet in those great photos, and thanks for sharing them with us. And what an amazing, heartwarming, uplifting tale of rescue you have to tell! You are both blind, and you needed a very special kind of place where you could live out your days together. Good morning, brave, beautiful Sophia and Mighty Mike! Congratulations on being crowned our VERY special and MOST deserving Pets of the Day!!!:)

My eyes filled with tears, seeing your beautiful faces up on my Pet of the Day this morning, reading your heartwarming, life affirming "meant to be miracle" backstory!


So, how do you introduce two blind horses to one another? What if they don't get along? Can two blind horses be each other's companion?

And the answer is...


Thankfully, Mighty Mike and Sophia hit it off. They quickly started sharing the same hay basket and stick pretty close together. "We're excited to have Sophia join us as a companion for Mike," Becky says. "The two will be able to stay together as mutual companions and live out their lives safely."

Endless, heartfelt thanks to all of the heroes who had a hand in making your rescues a reality, including Gerda/"Gerda's Equine Rescue," Becky Roy/"Draft Gratitutde," and no doubt countless other heroes! But as your human says, now, more heroes are needed to assure that for the rest of your lives you two will be able to remain together, being cared for and loved unconditionally! Hopefully, after reading your rags to riches, life affirming rescue story horse lovers near and far will answer the call, opening up their hearts and wallets to such a worthy cause, donating to your fundraiser! You two giants have done your work, and now it's time for us to do our part!


Gerda and Becky are hoping Sophia and Mike's story touches people and inspires them to help with the funds needed to build the two horses an appropriate home. "Their handicap may have ended their ability to serve humans, but they still each deserve to live out the safe and loving retirement they have earned. To have found each other is a real-life love story that should be allowed to live on and flourish - but we need heroes to help us make that happen."
