View Full Version : Vinny Cleans His Own Box!

My Vinny is generally a well-behaved little guy, but occasionally he does something that absolutely perplexes me- he removes solid waste from his litterbox and leaves it lying around on the carpet or floor. I know that he has removed it from the box and has not house-soiled, because it is always covered with litter. His box is cleaned thoroughly (by me) twice a day, so it seems unlikely that he's making a statement about the condition of his box. Does anyone else's cat do this?

I've noticed this two or three times myself -- usually when I've been gone longer than usual or if the fur kids are more at odds with one another. Don't really have any advice on this, though.

If I don't leave Bastet's box alone she will soil elsewhere in the house. Its a covered box so it doesn't smell but she hates me cleaning up her messes. I found that extremely strange but she does bury them to the bottom of the box. I think its a territorial thing with her.

Lennie B. I don't have an explanation for your cat's behavior. I am thinking that perhaps you could get another litter box so, that there are two to choose from?

sometimes I think it is an accident, what I mean is that it gets "stuck" on the fur and comes out onto the floor. Other times I think they PLAY with those poops  , You know, like they don't have PILES of toys!! But it is entirely possible he does want to get rid of it faster than you do. Who can figure a cat?!?!

This is kind of funny! I don't know what to say, just that little poops on the floor are kind of funny to me. He he he

I've noticed this a few times also. I've also seen it happen. It's when the cat jumps out of the litterbox so fast that the poop is still hanging from the cats bottom. Then it drops off the cat on to the carpet. Sometimes it has litter on it and sometimes it doesn't. It usually happens to Pepper since he's so furry. I guess the poop likes to stick to his furry bottom.:)

Lennie B,
WHOA!!!!! When I first read that your cat cleaned his own cat box I thought "Send him to MY house!!!" I pictured a cat walking around with a scoop. Then as I read further I realized what you were saying.
I find little dried "surprizes" on the floor occasionally as well. Since I have 6 cats and 5 boxes, it was just a matter of one of them digging to China and accidentally throwing out a poop.

Diva, my CH kitty, sometimes leaves "treasures" near the litter box since she twitches while she's going. More than you needed to know, I suppose.:p
