sorry but i warned you all that i'de have tons of questions once i got mickey. now i need some help with something. :p
we have 3 floors in the house. mickey is only allowed on the main floor until he is potty trained and so keep him there at all times. the thing is, whenever somebody goes upstairs or downstairs he whines and tries to climb the stairs. we pull him back but he cries even more. i'm thinking it might be because he's a herding dog and i read they like to keep everyone together, but i'm wondering...is there anyway to stop him from doing this? because of this he has learned to climb stairs and i'm scared he could fall back and get hurt. please help. thanks :)

Get an inexpensive baby gate and put it across the stairs. He will learn upstairs is off limits. When he crys ignore him. Don't give him any attention at all or he will get rewarded for crying by having you come and pay him attention. Even if it's to tell him no.

Cool idea!

Unfortunately the baby gate didnt work with Gully.

I wanted to keep her from the deck and in the back yard so the neighbours dog wouldnt bark at her (HE NEVER STOPS - it doesnt matter if she is out or not, if there are people out or not he barks and barks and barks poor little guy)

As soon as she heard him she cleared that gate by at least a couple of feet (man she can jump).

I also figured that she could also go through it, she is a BIG girl :)

I will have to think of something else :p

We had to use 2 gates, one above the other, and had to cover Chester's side with plywood. He could jump over one and when we put the 2nd one above the 1st, he climbed them both, thus the plywood for a smooth surface!

I cant fit a second onto the deck because of the weird way it was made but ordinarily it isnt a problem.

I put her out and she wanders sniffing or plays ball with me or goes and lays in the sun.

Its just when that other dog barks and barks. he never stops.

I dont blame my little girl for getting riled.

The other neighbour has a poodle but he just barks to say "this is my yard" and "hey glad to meet you". My dog woofs back and thats it. Then they are happy that they did their jobs :)

Its the one that does the constant barking thats the problem.
