I received this from another list...
A long story precedes this need, but for now, let me
just say that Adopt a Husky, Inc. - WEST has a
housebroken, calm, sweet, mellow, ten year old
Siberian with no lower front teeth, who, as it was
just found out today via a microchip, is deemed a
DANGEROUS DOG in our state.
In Washington, if a dog kills an animal OFF it's
property, it is deemed DANGEROUS and after court, etc.
it basically must be put to sleep or IMMEDIATELY
transferred out of state.
The dog in our care killed a neighbors cat FIVE YEARS
AGO. Today I found out that her teeth are missing
because the cat owner kicked her in the face.
There is an out-of-state owner listed on file, but so
far attempts to make contact have resulted in nothing.
Who knows how old the info is - the dog was taken in
years ago. The sheriff won't give me the number of the
owner, and the address is a PO Box instead of a street
address. The DID say they would call her and pass my
info/message along but so far no one has called me.
The County Animal Control facility knows I have this
dog and under what conditions. The Director has asked
for an update, which I gave them, but I understand she
has a job to do as well. So far I have not been made
to move this dog, BUT she can only help me for so
long. A law is a law - we don't get to make them.
Soooo, if she tells me TIME IS UP, I need to have a
waiting foster home and transport for this dog
IMMEDIATELY. It must be OUTSIDE of WASHINGTON state.
Now for the kicker.....the dog "seems" to be cat
friendly after our test with shelter cats. We have
her listed as such on the web! Maybe she is indoor
cat friendly but outdoors, as we all know, is a
different story. Also, she can climb 4' wire fencing
if you walk away. Otherwise, she'll sit in the sun
for hours, totally content. She plays well with boys
and some girls. If they are the quiet type, she does
fine with them.
So, if anyone is up to fostering (OR ADOPTING!!) this
dog for Adopt a Husky, please contact me immediately
so we can get the administrative stuff taken care of
ahead of time. I think I'll have a reprieve for New
Years Day Holiday, but I'm sure my phone will be
ringing Thursday morning from the Director.
Thanks all,
Tracie
