I am okay, we are okay, it has just been horribly busy at the Post Office and in the rest of life. Also my friend Roger, beloved of both Paul and myself, has been given a Pancreatic Cancer diagnosis, but still small and easily removed. He is upbeat now, Sir Jury is December 10th.

Dearest Pet Talk folks, so sorry I have not even yet gotten a chance to update the sites today - Wednesdays are theoretically a "slow" day at the Post Office, but today was so busy with packages both coming through this office, and being sent out from this office that I did not get a chance to update the sites, and feel like doing so so late in the day would not be fair to the pet. dog and cat to be featured.

I will update late tonight so there will be new honorees tomorrow morning. There are simply not enough hours in the day, as I have another commitment to get to now.

So much is happening, Boo is growing so fast, as are the kittens, I know I owe you all pictures as well. I feel like I am letting everyone down, and I apologize.

Today was every stranger than a typical Monday in Covid time, and we got more packages on the afternoon stuck than the morning, and even some on the evening truck - which is just supposed to pick up outgoing mail! Over 110 packages - and we are a tiny Post Office! As it is so late in the day, I will update them to be tomorrow's honorees. Sigh.

That was always a tradition growing up - open and share the little jar - on ryekrisp - of my grandfather's special pickled herring recipe. One of Dad;s regrets in life was not getting that recipe from him before Grandpa died.

(Now I am allergic to fish and couldn't have any anyway, but I can still think of it wistfully!

The sursild (pickled herring) along with the gravadlax (cured salmon with mustard/dill sauce) were/are my favorites on the julbord! I remember, as a child, going with my father to the (then) predominantly Scandinavian immigrant NYC neighborhood where we once lived, where I was born, Bay Bridge, Brooklyn, to shop at the local butcher, baker, fishmonger, grocery store for the traditional Christmas foods, supplies. The whole herrings were stored in a big, wooden barrel at the back of the store. Back then you had to fillet them yourself. Now you can buy them online, all cleaned and filleted, ready to prepare. Sadly, most Scandinavians have left Bay Ridge so much of the shopping is done online now, not to mention having to make so many of the dishes myself. A lot of work, considering my parents and only sibling are no longer with us, all my remaining family back in Norway and Sweden, the only guests being just Junji and myself. Still, just can't let go of the traditions.:rolleyes::p

Should you ever have need, I have several excellent pickled herring recipes, really very simple with only slight variations: White vinegar, water, sugar, whole black peppercorns, whole allspice and mustard seed boiled then cooled. Very stressful day today, and a beloved Post Office patron was in tears as she had to have her beloved Siamese lady put to sleep Monday, which she told me about then, but she has been torturing herself with thinking she should have had her put down earlier. I assured her repeatedly May Ling would remember the love she gave her since she was adopted as a deaf cat the former owners didn't want, and not her last weekend of pain, as she had bone cancer in her jaw that had not be found earlier, and it progressed rapidly and suddenly, of course on the weekend when her regular vet was closed.

It was probably Fancy - the one of Marigold's kittens we kept from the litter that was born on my birthday. So that would make her now seven and a half months old. She was the only polydactyl, and is busy and into everything! Fancy was not harmed, just knocked the router plug out of its socket, and was entirely unrepentant!

So sorry for not updating the sites yesterday or today. I forgot that I should never schedule an eye exam first thing in the morning, as it takes my eyes many hours - like ten!!! to get back to normal after getting my pupils dilated. so for most of the day, I could not even look at the computer screen it was so bright and out of focus! But I will get them up tonight for tomorrow. And the cats have knocked my mouse off the desk so often it is refusing to function, so I am having to use a clunky wired mouse!

We had sadness this week, though, despite the beautiful weather. We lost Leroy, the house is quieter now.

Gorgeous drive North, got four Silkie roosters a woman needed to get rid of - she lives in a town center, and having five young roosters crowing was not working for her neighbors! Our new "normal" letter carrier and his wife had a baby this weekend, so we are back to scrambling to cover the route again, like we did in January after our beloved letter carrier retired. Also the equipment was having trouble, too.

Today was our annual decorating of the cemeteries, including Paul's stone, but it was pouring rain the whole time, and I had our two dogs with me. The cemetery is enclosed in an old stone wall, but Dusky jumped the wall, Lulu followed him, and instead of having a quiet visit, we ended up calling for the dogs and tromping through the woods. Eventually the rest of the family gave up and went to the next cemetery, and only then did two very wet dogs emerge from the woods.

They were not allowed out of the car again until we got home.

Also, we may be getting a new rescue animal - different altogether from our current residents ... a pot-bellied pig! I will keep you posted if it happens.

What a day!

Wilder the pig is now here, and a lady who hatched some eggs for us brought the rest of the clutch to us, too. They are Pavloskaya chicks, from our hens that were just not broody enough to hatch them themselves. They are so cute! The others have been here for a couple weeks, they are all about the six of a robin now.

The wonderful people at Gerda's Equine Rescue - https://gerdasequinerescue.org/ - had their silent auction, and so were sending out all the "prizes" that people won today, And we also had lots of packages and mail. Monday's are sometimes Monday-er than others. Sigh.

I am sorry, everyone. I am alive and well, just have been incredibly busy. Kermit iOS dealing with an extended reaction to his second CPVID vaccine, whereas I had no reaction at all. My arm was not even sore this time! But anyway, I have had tp do more around the farm these past few days, but I promise I will restart the sites tomorrow, Monday. I feel like I am letting you all down.

But in happy news, we have our first gosling of the season, all bright yellow and fluffy, and I just found out we have ducklings, safe and inside the barn, so that's nice.

It has been crazy day, but the best part is our male kitty, Mulligan, who, I had not seen for several days, came in - sopping wet, but alive!!!
