Dearest Bear, you are gorgeous, absolutely stunning! That long, fluffy, glossy black fur is so silky and luxurious and looks so soft to pet, and you have the sweetest face with those long, LOOOONG white whiskers and perky ears and lovely big yellow-green eyes. You certainly look like you know just how beautiful you are! I wish I could reach through the screen and over to Nebraska to pet you! I can't, of course, but I know your loving and beloved Purrrson will pet you for me :).

And what a delightful Purrrsonality you have! You are a loving, soft-hearted cat and were chosen to be a therapy cat for your skin-sister who had cancer at age two. We know you are great company for her! You love playing with string. (To your dear Purrrsons: PLEASE only let Bear play with string when you're there to keep an eye on things. He might swallow some. which could turn into a serious medical emergency.) You know when one of your Purrrsons is upset and come to comfort that person. You and your whole family all love each other very much, don't you. What a wonderful love-filled home you share!

You have the most important job a kitty can have, you are a therapy cat for your human sister. And your personality is perfect for it, you are loving and soft-hearted.
And if someone in the family is upset, you are there for them as well.

Congratulations on being today's Cat of the Day, handsome Bear!

Bear looks like he could be the much larger great grandnephew of Samantha, the Late Empress of Cats. She brought joy into my life from 1988 until 2003. She appeared to be enormous, but there was actually a very fine-boned little girl hiding under that flowing black coat. There was a similar contrast between what at first appeared to be a very haughty diva and the sweetly gentle companion who she turned out to be. Like Bear with his human, she knew when I wasn't feeling well. Her "purr therapy" got me through scarlet fever, multiple dental abscesses, and a host of other problems.

Black cats aren't "bad luck". They do have an extra dose of mystery about them, and one mystery that I'll never figure out is why (after centuries of maltreatment by humans) they can be such loyal and loving companions.

I envy this handsome gentleman's humans for having him in their lives. He's definitely a very special guy.
