Ok, Nebo looks and acts healthy. He is not fat, he is not skinny, he is in perfect shape (well, I guess that's my opinion). He is not sick, he has plenty of energy. He just doesn't eat much. He hasn't boycotted food by any means. He likes his food, and he'd never turn down a treat. I've just tried to feed him by the guidelines for his age and weight on the bag, and he barely eats half of it. I know I read once that huskies don't tend to eat as much as other dogs their size. Does anyone know if there is any truth to this?

p.s. The food is Nutro large breed puppy. He is 7 months old. He used to eat more when he was small, but now that he's a big butt he doesn't eat nearly as much.......

My one husky mix eats very little. He weighs 68 lbs and he used to be on nutro large breed adult, he is now on the same but senior formula. He only eats 1/2 cup in the am & 1/2 cup at night. Sometimes he does not even finish it. That equals 1 cup a day, on the bag it says he "should get" 3-5 cups or something like that. And he is a little overweight. I have had quite a few husky's & husky mixes in the past & they have all ate less than most other breeds the same size.

The guidelines on the bag are just that, a guide. They are not exact & are actually ussually a little over the proper amount just to ensure them (the company) that a dog does not get underfed, sick & unhealthy & they do not get sued for it. As long as he is healthy then that amount is fine. And as dogs age the healthy dogs generally eat less than they did as a puppy (especially bigger breeds).

I agree with the others, What's on the bag is
just a guide line.
Since my dogs are not overly active,
If they ate what was on the bag they would
be fat. :)
As long as Nebo looks lean, not skinny and he
is healthy I would not worry.

I don't know if you remember, but I posted something similar to this a while back.
Roxey is the same way, but there are sometimes, as Slave of 15 has said, that she will eat & want more. I have noticed that here recently as it has gotten colder out, she has eaten more than normal, but much more.

I'm glad I saw this thread b/c Smokey (6 mos) is doing
the same thing. Seems to eat more at his evening meal
than at breakfast. He just picks at breakfast. When a few
months ago he ate everything he was given & wanted
more:confused: Smokey is certainly not underweight, so
maybe it's just tied to growth spurts in dogs.Really, he's
more interested in playing than eating, except in the evening.

Zeus is the same way. He usually eays only about half the amount I give him(sometimes all of it) So then Herc thinks he can eat the rest, thats why he's getting chubby:)

It's interesting to read about this...

My Smokey always eats all his food and sometimes he wants more. Actually, a lot of the times he'd like more.
Last night he knocked the lid off Pork Chop's food bucket and was helping himself since it had just been filled - and this was after I had just given him almost 2 cups of food. Maybe it's because we've started running recently instead of just walking (THANK YOU HALTI!!)

On the other hand, Pork Chop leaves some of his food in his bowl fairly often. He doesn't get out for walks much so maybe he just doesn't get as hungry.

I don't know.

This was kind of a pointless post. Sorry.
