View Full Version : Miss Kitty's not feeling well

Yesterday morning, Miss Kitty left a little of her breakfast which didn't concern me much. Then, last night, she barely touched her supper and had a tiny bit of diarrhea. She was very depressed, and she looked uncomfortable.:( I texted her vet, she recommended an anti-diarrheal, even though the diarrhea was very mild. I gave it to her.
It did not make a difference in terms of her appetite and lethargy. The next step this morning was anti-nausea medication which seemed to help some.
She ate some, and then she urinated about a gallon (or so it seemed), strange smelling urine at that. I collected some in case we have to go to the emergency clinic.
She seems a little brighter, but I'm watching her like a hawk. She's almost 17, and this being a holiday weekend, I can't take her to work.
Please send some healing thoughts for continued improvement.

I'm waiting at the e-clinic right now for results. Miss Kitty had horrible diarrhea this morning and barely ate, very depressed.
Keep your fingers crossed that it's nothing serious.

Bloodwork at e-clinic showed elevated creatinine, one of the kidney enzymes. It's either chronic or acute kidney disease. They gave her fluids under the skin, and put her on antibiotics. She also has a heart murmur. The vet wanted to hospitalize her on IV fluids and do x-rays. I declined and told them I'll take her to work tomorrow.
When we got home, Miss Kitty hopped in her bed, then she looked at me with those sad eyes, saying "mom, I'm sooo tired". :( I broke down and just cried into her fur. I'm crying right now.
I just have a bad feeling about her...

Oh, Heidi...:(

If it's the chronic type she can do well with sub-q fluids, as you know.

One of our members has an older kitty who got the chronic type. She was convinced that her cat was dying. Her kitty is still here two years later, doing very well.

Praying for a good outcome for dear Miss Kitty.:love::love:

Thank you, Candace.
I think we might be heading towards SQ fluids, which I would be gladly giving every day.

I'm so sorry, Heidi. :(

It's good you can give her fluids yourself, and she will be more relaxed with you around to give her love and care. :)

Sending more positive and healing thoughts... and big hugs!

Olive loves Miss Kitty!!!
Miss Kitty is still not right. Her vet checked on her today, I told her about the insane amounts of water Miss Kitty drinks and how little she urinates. She was concerned about where all the fluid is going, and she had me check her breathing, which seemed ok.
She'll see Miss Kitty tomorrow, and hopefully, we can come up with a plan!
Thanks to everybody for your concerns and well wishes!

Miss Kitty ate well this morning. We went to see her (and my) favorite vet. She had lost 1/2 pound since last month, but that was to expect. The vet listened to her heart and found no murmur, hooray!
Her theory is that, after Miss Kitty's inappetence and diarrhea, she became dehydrated, which affected her kidneys. We'll never know what caused the diarrhea, but it seems resolved (her last poop was Sunday night). I just have to watch her for constipation (which she has dealt with for several years).
I gave her some more SQ fluids, and she's supposed to stay on anti-nausea meds.
So overall, she doing pretty well.:)
:love:Thank you again for all your well wishes and positive thoughts. There's no doubt in my mind that you all helped Miss Kitty (and me).

Good news, if her kidneys have no lasting damage. :love:Yay Miss Kitty and Meowmie! :)

Right now, Meowmie has a giant knot in her stomach because she messed up.
Miss Kitty hadn't pooped in 4 days despite a fairly good appetite, and I was concerned about constipation, so I gave her a half dose of her lactulose. When I came home today, I looked for her poop, and there was none. So I gave her another half dose, and right after that, she had a diarrhea blowout, probably caused by her first dose.
What I didn't know, and what my boyfriend (not mad at him) didn't tell me until I told him about the diarrhea, was that Miss Kitty had pooped in the afternoon. I would have never given her that second dose.
So her vet told me to bring her to work for fluids tomorrow so that she doesn't get dehydrated again.
Everybody, please listen to your veterinarian! I didn't and Miss Kitty is paying.:(
So  at myself.

Oh, Heidi... We do everything we can for them, and sometimes it still isn't quite what was needed...

Miss Kitty knows how much you love her and how hard you work to do everything right for her, and she loves you as much as ever and will get over this.

We all are sending our hugs and purrrs and lovies and good wishes and warm energies to you all.

I think we dodged a bullet. At this point, no diarrhea, good appetite and she seems to feel ok.
So I did not take her for fluids. If necessary, I can drop by the hospital tomorrow.
