Juneau has had recurrent ear probs since I got him from the SPCA, he had one heck of an ear infection when we got him, his poor ears were FILTHY! When I see him shaking his head excessively or scratching at his ears alot I put his ear cleaning drops in. Will he ever be rid of this problem? i thought this was the sort of thing that happens to dogs with floppy ears hmmmm

Duh I forgot i carefully clean his external ear parts with a Q tip that has the ear cleaning solution on it, when his ears are bothering him.

My dog has been getting ear infections since she was 3 months old (she is 9 now). Our vet gave us antibiotic drops for her ears. The only way we can keep our girl's ears infection free is to clean them everyday and put the drops in once or twice a week.

Any dog can get ear infections but it is just more common for floppy eared dogs. Maybe the infection was so bad that an extra dose is needed. How long has this been going on for? I would clean the ears really good every day or every other day for 2 weeks and medicate. You may need to bring the dog in for a re-check exam. Good luck!

I work at a Animal Hospital and the vet has come up with a great way to help dog with ear problems. It even has helped Cockers!

You go and buy sodium chloride solution (come in IV bags)
and betadine, and a large nasal/ear bulb.
Mix the betadine + Sodium chloride together so it is tea colored in a bowl.
then take the bulb and suck the solution in the bulb place it in the ear canal and flush the ear out.
Massage
Then squeeze bulb place in ear canal and suck up excess solution.
repeat 2-3 times.
use paper towel to dry out ear. put in any medication you might have.
You can do this once to twice a week to keep ears clean.

It is a secret recipe that works really well

caution: it can stain light colored dogs and your clothes. Also I would do it outside or in a tub. It is very messy!!!!

Hope this helps poor Juneau!

Don't wait until he's shaking his head or scratching his ears a lot.....clean them all the time, every day it's needed. Waiting until they are bothering him is not going to do much good.
