A funny thing happened on the way to the forum...

Driving home this morning my day was delayed by an accident. I drive home at roughly 730 AM. They were still cleaning up from an accident at 2AM, drunk driver, a double bottom, and a bus. No fatalities, but Onondaga County just isn't set up for a mass casualty exercise.

When I got home, the house was a touch cool. Part of the furnace decided to die, but after giving it a little TLC, got it running again.

I called the HVAC service company, and they sent someone out, but that left me staying awake all day waiting for them.

I have had a WONDERFUL day. As such, I'm going to sit by the fire with a large Irish and contemplate the inside of my eyelids.

I have a funny B-day story from last year.

We had gone to New Mexico for a visit with some frients, we had gone out to sight see and the group went in to a Subway for lunch..

We figured out what we wanted and I walked up to the counter, ordered and the guy behind the counter hands me a few plastic Solo Cup.

He looks at me and says, "Here you go, drinks are free for SENIORS..."

SENIORS?

The joke is, that by age, I am the 'youngest' of the group, but look the OLDEST.:rolleyes::(;)

Funny you mention marshmallows, the Webelos are coming over Wednesday to use the fireplace for exactly that purpose. They had a bonfire on the schedule, but the pack leader canceled, so we figure this will somewhat make up for it.

The tortillas SHOULD be in the works this week, if time allows.

In the meantime, it's downright cold here, I think I'm going to sit by the fire with the pup.

Gonna drag more wood into the house, I have been squirreling away little piles of scrap wood and have been firing up the pit in the back yard too.

I'll bend some clothes hangers and put more water on!

Um, yes we did use wire hangers.......

We grew up to love and respect trees.

The only reason for a tree to be hurt or damaged was when our dad needed a switch to beat our arses.;)

Trees must be more sparse where you are. In the woods of New England, where I grew up, there is always brush, including sprouting trees that will never grow to maturity because they are in the shade of the parent tree, so too close to others, "trash trees" growing on brook banks or roadside - finding one green twig certainly never harmed the tree or the ecosystem, trust me! If anything, we were pruning them, which every gardener knows is necessary at times!

I grew up in the Valley. We had all kinds of trees in the yard. Lemon, orange, pine, olive and mulberry trees. My G-ma had pine, plum, avocado, peach, pomegranate and fig trees in her yard.

I thiink that the West Coasters have a different view on trees because of the 'sparseness'? We don't have all the foliage that other areas in the US have, so we tend to really overreact when it comes to trees - We love trees!

We love trees, too, I promise! But sparseness only happens out here when deer overpopulate a confined area, or someone spends a lot of work to prevent more trees growing! Stop mowing a piece of property here, and in a month it will start looking like a meadow, and most of the time in a few years, the beginnings of forest!
