Don Juan has been peeing and pooping outside the box, and has taken to spending all his time on a particular spot on the kitchen counter. I have an appointment for the vet tomorrow.

Very worried. He's 14 1/2 years old. In a few days, it will be 13 years since I adopted him. I'm trying to accept that it may be time to say goodbye to him. But he's stood by me for so long. I'm hoping and praying that we may have a few more years together.

I don't think getting into the litter box is the problem. I picked him up off the counter and took him over to the box... and he immediately ran back to the kitchen and leaped up onto the counter. :(

Prayers from RI. Let us know what the vet says.

Sounds like a UTI is a possible cause of all this.

That is so sad when Our Cats get older , and we realize that their time could be coming. There is nothing worse than that helpless feeling when Our Cats are ill as there is nothing we can do.
We all at The Found Cat Hotel are praying for Our Friend Do Juan , and pray that you will have more quality time together.:love::love:

Well, we saw the vet. Don Juan has a normal temperature and no blood in his urine. We think it may be a behavior issue related to the litter boxes. Right now I'm cleaning up his old litter box to set up for his royal use.

Oh dear. Did you get him a new litter box and expect him to use it? :D The nerve! :D

I hope setting up the old box works for the dear boy.:love:

Well, that's good news!

Here's hoping all is well, now that the proper throne is reinstalled for His Majesty.

Ditto! Really, a cat should expect da HuMom to know da ROOLS! Do NOT tamper with da litter box - not the location, the stuff inside, nor the box itself!

Paws crossed this solves the problems.

More to update: We used to have three litter boxes for four cats, but had to go to two when my brother-in-law moved in with us. I set up the third box again (Don Juan's old box) on the balcony. We can't have it in the bedroom because of my husband's asthma, and no place else to put it.

Don Juan is spending a lot of time on the balcony. I have food and water out there for him, and leave the door to the bedroom open so he can come in when he wants.

I think he may be having an issue with my husband's boy cat, Rugger. Rugger likes lots of attention, but is not cuddly.

We are, of course, looking into better arrangements.
