Read this recently about a Collie:

Family with a Collie moved into a new house. The father was
in the backyard playing with his 2 kids and their dog. 15
year old neighborhood boy came into the backyard to
introduce himself to the family. The dog put himself between
the boy and the 2 children and started growling at the 15 year
old. The father apologized perfusely, stating that the dog
had never behaved so badly before and then put the dog
into the house. A few months later the 15 year old was picked
up for molesting children within the neighborhood.

Ah moral, Always listen to your dog.

I love watching Miracle Pets on PAX. I saw an episode recently
where a man was out walking his two Rotties, when the one
Rottie laid down and refused to go any further. He'd never
done this before, so the man decided to go back home, thinking
the dog was ill. As soon as the man got home, he collapsed
to the floor having a heart attack. One of the dogs went to
him licking him on the face trying to keep him conscious. but
the man was unable to move, to get to the phone. The other
dog raced to the phone and brought it to the man. He was able
to dial 911, before he passed out. He was saved by paramedics
sent to the scene based on the 911 call.

I was watching a show today about a Collie who alerted her owner the baby stopped breathing. It was neat. I also love hearing about the dogs who work with diabetics. I think that is so interesting. I was watching one about a Saint bernard who was trained to get the phone and a soda for her owner, ended up saving her life.

in the <breed all about it> episode on shelties, they showed a story about a sheltie named princess that alerted her owners that a small fire had started because of some tried leaves. the fire was spreading, but they were able to stop it in time, thanks to princess :)

The third day I had Lolly, she saved me from going into a diabetic coma. I took the wrong insulin without realizing it then got in bed. My blood sugar was dropping fast and I was falling asleep so I didn't notice it. Lolly sensed it and started biting my arms. I felt like I was slipping down a deep tunnel and I just wanted to keep slipping. But then Lolly started digging on my arm and stomach. I finally managed to roll out of bed and reach for a Dr. Pepper that my friend who had been over had left in my room. The Dr. Pepper gave me enough strength to get to the kitchen and eat a little bit. Then I just sat there and hugged Lolly.

I've never told this story in a public forum before... just told a few people because I feel like an idiot for taking the wrong kind of insulin. But Lolly is my hero and a true miracle dog.

I guess you would consider this heroic, I do:

Last year our chow (Rainbow Bridge Keisha) died from bloat.
I was getting ready for work, and all of a sudden Angus started barking & howling like crazy. He NEVER just howls, barks sometimes, but never howls. So I went to see what the problem was. I opened the door & he was just going crazy trying to tell me something. So I look around for Keisha & all of a sudden I hear the most awful noise, my girl was crying in pain. She was under a trailer we had out back. So I called her & she moved like she was in alot of pain (which she was). Anyway to make a long story short (and without making myself cry) I would have left for work & not known anything was wrong with Keisha if Angus hadn't told me.
I find that pretty heroic!

Wow! Lolly! How great of you to help out your mom and to notice something was wrong! You certainly are a gift from heaven! Angus your deed was by far one of the greatest. To help out your sister! You certainly are a hero! Both of your stories have touched my heart.

I love hearing these kinds of stories. But even though the ones on TV are nice and touching, it's so much more moving to hear actual accounts coming from a "real" person. Aly and Anna, your stories are incredible! We are all so lucky to have our furry friends with us - what would we do without them??
