NELLY

When we received Nelly she was tested for heartworm, just like all our dogs are. Usually, and thankfully, the test comes back negative. Unfortunately in Nelly's case it came back positive. What's worse is the heartworm has invaded her lungs. She is currently under treatment and is faring well. Nelly is five plus years, a Shepherd/Husky mix, and a bona fide escape artist. This is a real problem especially now, because heartworm patients are to be kept quiet, calm, and only have a minimum of exercise. She was climbing the fence at her foster home so rapidly, she had to be returned to the shelter. This atmosphere is stressful for her there, and she desparately needs a loving and understanding foster home again. If you think you might be able to help with Nelly, please e-mail us. Nelly also needs a sponsor to help pay for her heartworm treatments. Nelly gets along with most dogs, and is okay with some cats, and good with kids. She loves to snuggle, eat people food (do you know a dog who doesn't?!) and thinks laps are a very good place to sit. Nelly is also housetrained.

Nelly is beautiful. I hope she finds a suitable foster home or better yet, adoptive home!

You know, we'd take her, but there's no way that our house with 18 dogs running around is going to be ok for her in her recovery. I wish that our staff at school was a little more sympathetic to animals or I'd recruit one of them. She just breaks my heart. They are SO good at making me feel guilty. But, then, that's what makes them good.

OMG...I just had a revelation!!! One of the teachers from my school that retired 2 years ago lives in South Bend....hmmm......
