To Spring, drivers pressing on the loud pedal, and gardening beginning!
Seed catalogs fill the mailbox, and thoughts turn to what's going in the garden this year?
In the meantime, I'm going to sit down with some catalogs at the bar and have myself an Irish coffee with a Flexoril chaser.
Here's to the days getting longer!

I agree with LH, here's to the days getting longer! LH, I will drink with you; but i'm just drinking decaf coffee without the Irish part or the chaser. Hi, Lady :love
I heard on the news that even though it's winter, we are still way behind on rainfall and that it takes almost 8 inches of snow to equal an inch of rain. We're supposed to get some rain overnight, though. Maybe snow over the weekend.

I think we can scrape up some decaf.
Rain? Nah.....got enough, thanks.....but we still have snow melting from the storm last week, and get a nice coating of lake effects flurries on a regular basis.

About to fire up the kettle, anyone want some tea?

Oops....
Don't forget to go vote for the monopoly piece that gets out of jail!
One piece out of the current set is going to be retired, and they're going to add a new piece. Right now it looks like Scottie is safe, but go vote!:D

Where does one vote?
And I have some Mandarin Orange Spice tea if anyone wants some!

I'll have some tea Karen. Thank you. Snowing and cold here.

Hey Karen, if you can figure a way to serve mandarin oranges without the tea part, I'm first in line for some. This darn cold has me craving fruit, big time. At least I don't have the flu like I suspected, but my head still feels like it's full of cotton candy, and there's that elephant sitting on my chest too. We need an extended cold spell to kill off all these germs floating around - before the Spring pollen blossoms and tortures us. :(

How about some warm vanilla cake with mandarin oranges baked in? Then glazed with confectioner's sugar and orange juice glaze, served nice and warm - would that do it for ya?

Oh my goodness - YES! That sounds lovely! I've been battling the creeping crud myself, thought I was safe, but went to choir practice tonight and the high notes? Not pretty...

I crashed early last night, so I missed your cake offer, Karen. If it still stands, I'm all for some - sounds delish!
I was going to have a banana on my cereal this morning, but the bananas were way beyond that point. So now there is a banana bread baking in the oven. Should be ready in about an hour if anyone would care to share some with me. And coffee - I need coffee!!!
Happy Friday and almost weekend, everyone.

Is there any cake left? Or did it all get scoffed up last night? Sounds like a goood breakfast to me. (now that the kids are off at school!)

It's no longer warm, but there is some left, have a chunk!

I have had a hankering for some lima beans with ham and a crusty bread to sop up the broth with.
Anyone?:)

Ham? Check.
Crusty bread? Check.
The lima beans you can have for yourself. They're the one "vegetable" I refuse to touch since childhood.

I can vouch for that! ;)
Soup, I'll have - and some nice crusty bread sounds marvelous!

I have to agree with you - YUK.
But have you ever tried baking them? Make a sauce like you would for regular "baked beans" - molasses, brown sugar, tomato sauce or a mild BBQ sauce, chopped onion and toss them in the crock pot or oven. Delish! I detest limas any other way but this.

I don't think he'd even bother to eat them that way! ;)
Oddly warm weather today, most of the remaining ground snow evaporated in heavy fog, but as I am now able to eat peppers, I was very excited, as that now means stewed tomatoes are just fine! Made a whole mess of bowtie pasta with stewed tomatoes, oregano and basil, with parmesan cheese on top - anyone want some?
It's very exciting when I can eat things I have had to avoid for so long!

We were fogged in here all day yesterday - it never did clear out. This morning it was 61 at 5 a.m. - unreal for mid-January. Temps dropping thru the day tho, and the 10 day forecast has us back to more normal temps in the 30's and 40's - still not real cold. I'm still waiting for that big snowstorm!
Coffee anyone?

Bone cold here tonight. Going to be 17 but that's better than the 6 it was last night. Still have a bit of snow on the ground which makes it colder. Have a big pot of hot chocolate on. I'll share!!!

Well, as anyone who knows me knows, I have been battling what I thought were food allergies and intolerances for many years. I parted company with my gall bladder this past May, and have slowly, carefully been testing various food that I had awful reactions to or tested as allergic to in the past. And a few hours ago, I had my second "test" and no reaction to .... garlic! My stomach feels fine, absolutely normal! Yesterday was a little bit in some takeout, and this evening I had some salsa that had crushed garlic and chopped garlic in it! And peppers, of course, which is something I finally got the courage to test and clear right before Christmas.
Victory! Wheee! Turns out lots of people's gall bladders don't like garlic, and now that I am gall bladder free, it is safe for me again! Which of course opens up practically half the supermarket, as you wouldn't believe how many things have garlic in them until your body rejects it outright!
Just had to share the news with all of you! :)
And yes, some things are still verboten/evil, which is why it can go weeks between me testing anything.
