We finally brought home our little guy at 9lbs yesterday morning. First to go home. We are keeping in touch with the breeder. He was very happy to see us happy and know Ryder will have a great home. He had a long day. Couple car rides, he did good. All he did was mostly sleep. Vet visit went good. Vet says he has a soft tiny heart murmur but she told us not to worry because that tend to go away on its own, 95% of the time. We hope it does. Otherwise, he's one healthy boy! He even discovered grass, we think he was never on it so he had quite a experience. He stood there, looked around, then immediately ran over to where we are, so we took a little walk and he'd follow and sit by us, then repeat. He's so adorable, though. He met some of the family too! He had fun with that. First night away, Ryder did great! He slept in his crate in the kitchen, not a peep from 11:30pm to 5am. He did not go in his crate either. Not bad for a first night. He does get attached and want to be by us, no matter where we are. He is young, only 7 weeks but he is such a good boy. He is adjusting well, I think. At least we think he is. :) So, here are pictures! (Some PT'ers are on my FB so they probably have seen pictures already so I wanted to share on here as well)

Hello Cutie Pie!

That 4th pic, look at that paw! MWAH! And the 3rd one, what a handsome face! Of COURSE he slept well the first night, so much activity, change, maybe a bit of nerves, and lots of play and excitement! LOL

7 weeks? Way too young to leave mum and litter mates, you will need to go lots of puppy things, like teaching soft mouth. He would have learned that with his doggie family over the next 2 weeks. Yes it is cute when he mouths you, babies of any species love to taste, and bite, the world around them. Make sure you yelp when he does this, though, you need to pick up on this training immediately!

He will be fine. I've been through it with Rosie (RB Beagle). She was also early as well. Either 6-7 weeks old. Hank was 7 weeks also. He seems to be doing just fine so far. Don't worry. He's in good hands. We've already started training him basic commands & no 'biting'... ;) I've been through a lot of criticism about Ryder lately so I'd rather not deal with it on here please.

Oh! Also, when we went to pick him up, he immediately went to us. He knew he was going home. He may have picked us, but we already had him all along!

Dont you guys have laws on pups leaving their mums before 8 weeks like we do :(. I hope his heart is ok, the the other vet that vacc'd him with his breeder didn't pick up on it?

He is a bit cute, have fun getting to know him.

I guess not. I don't have a problem with it if the puppies are READY to leave and all on solids. But yes, I know all about this, though. I was aware of it. He'll be okay. He's still a growing puppy so they will keep a eye on it every time he has a checkup/getting his shots, etc. It should be gone by the time he's 6 months old.

New pictures/a video or two sometime later today. He's been doing so well, no accidents in house, he's confined to the kitchen. He knows he has to go pee/poo outside and does it every time. He's learning "sit" and "come".. we've been calling him by name so he's starting to perk up and hear that as well. I'm proud of my little man! :)

Very good - the second night home is a bigger test than the first, now that he's getting settled in!

Oh My Goodness!!!! Is he cute or what???!! He is adorable and I'd just love to hug him--all NINE lbs of him. That's a big boy. He looks so cuddly. My little girls together might weigh 9 lbs. In one of the pics of his cuteness, I think I saw long toenails. He might need his toenails trimmed. I dont know what more to say other than he is the cutest little feller I've seen in a long time. Already he sounds so smart too. I hope you all have many years together. Post pics often, ok?

Very good - the second night home is a bigger test than the first, now that he's getting settled in!

Second and THIRD night went very well. He likes being in his crate. :) He's adjusting well. More confident and playful, but still so affectionate. He's a good boy.

Be sure to get him used to having his nails cut now so when he's older it will be really easy to do them. I did Clover's often just so she'd be used to it. She just lays there now when I do it.

I don't agree with bringing pups home before 8 weeks normally, but Rachel is responsible enough to look out for the signs of something wrong, especially with previous experience!

Anyway, I just about AWWWW'ed at every single photo. He's adorable!! Welcome home, Ryder!! He's going to be incredibly handsome! You guys going to do any hunting with him? I'm not sure if you're into that or not, just wondering! I love seeing dogs do the work they were meant for.

I was more concerned that the supposedly responsible breeder would let one of their babies leave early, and that his heart murmer was not picked up on first vet visit.

Oh my. This brings back memories of when Prue, my doggie, was a pup. I am reminded each day, actually, because she left many a corner chewed. It was my fault for leaving her for 10 minutes at a time. She did have a crate but like many dogs, put up such a fuss that I let her out all the time. Bad mommie. She is my shadow now and does not chew anymore.

I love the photos of your new little one. So sweet. I can smell that puppy breath from here!

Good luck with the little ball of fur. Keep those photos coming.

All I know and were told that heart murmur in pups is very common and usually goes as the pup gets older. Of course, we're concerned. So we'll see what happens.

It is NOT uncommon for puppies to come in for vet checkups and have a heart murmur. As you said, 95% of the time they go away as they get older, sometimes by the second visit even. I know you know this, I just wanted to throw it out there to others that seem concerned by this finding. Also, it absolutely can be missed on one visit, either that or the previous vet did not do a complete physical and listen to the heart. In ANY case, the babe will most likely be totally fine :)

And holy moly look how much he has grown in such a short time!!!!!
