Hi all,

Well, tonight will be a LOOOONG night. I can't let Nutmeg have any food or water after 11pm so I can't very well let the other two have any either! I don't want to lock Nutmeg up because she wouldn't understand.

She only is five months old, not six, but that's just an approximation on her age and I think she might be in heat. Last week she was howling a lot and acting very strange, and I'm going away for Christmas and I don't want to have to sit in the car for 8 hours listening to her wail! :D

Anyway, she goes in tomorrow morning at around 9am. I have a bunch of errands to run tomorrow, and I have to go to the dentist (EEW) so I will pick her up after that. I will let you all know how she is when I bring her home!

Wish her the best of luck!

Naomi

Best of luck Nutmeg!

Sounds like she was on heat. Its great seeing so many responsible pet owners!

I am all for spaying. Bastet is spayed and I had no problems with her in fact she didn't even lick her stitches until they were out!

I am sure nutmeg will be ok just grumpy for a few days.

Good tomorrow Nutmeg! I know it will be a little painful, but it's for your own good and it will save you all that pain of having babies.

I just went through this a month ago with Hanna. She was 5 months too. Holding back the food and water the night before is so hard! Hanna had to spend the night after - I wish I could have picked her back up the same day. I missed her terribly, and I was at the vet's office almost as soon as they opened the next day.

Hanna's spaying didn't phaze her one bit - she wanted to run and play and wrestle with Bo as soon as she got home.

I let her play with a furry mouse a few days after her surgery (I had taken them away because she goes so nuts for them and I was supposed to keep her calm) and the next day I noticed a lump by her stitches, I panicked, and thought it was something escaping the incision (hernia), but after visiting the vet they said it was an inflammation of the sutures - no medicines necessary. It went away, but I still felt so guilty about not keeping her quieter. Keeping a 5 month old kitten from playing and running and jumping is hard - I didn't do a good job of it. But luckily it wasn't anything bad, and now a month later her fur is almost all grown back on her tummy.

Naomi, I'm sure that Nutmeg's spaying will go just fine. Good luck. She'll be in my thoughts and prayers.

Thank you all very much for the well wishes! I just gave them a big snack an hour ago, so they will go to sleep with full tummies. I picked up all the food and water 20 mins ago. I wish she could at least have water, but I guess they don't want her to feel sick from the anasthetic. They said I will be able to pick her up tomorrow after 4pm, so hopefully all that will work out. I will certainly let you all know how she's doing!!

Since I am replying from Belgium , your Nutmeg will probably be to the vet already ..! Don't you worry about her , Naomi ! My Maya was spayed 2 months ago , and it all went very well . The night BEFORE is bad , as the poor thing was hungry .. . After the operation , she was dizzy and slept away most of the day ; also the next day she slept a lot . But on no moment , she was in pain !! So , don't you worry , go to your dentist appointment (OUCH , how I HATE dentist visits ...) , and get Nutmeg's basket ready for when she gets home .
Good luck to Nutmeg (and you Naomi !!)

ps. Do'nt be surprised when your sweetheart vomites when she gets home ; it is only because of the sedation and the car-ride !!

I found this animation ... So funny , I HAVE to mail this ... LOL

A vet visit is surely not on top of your wishing list, but good luck sweet Nutmeg! It'll soon be over and all will be back to normal. ;) Naomi, try not to worry too much, the vets do this all the time. :)

Tigris' furmom got pregnant at that age, so it's better for Nutmeg
{{{{hugs}}}} for her. She'll get over it soon .

Good luck, Nutmeg. After all, it's not good for kittens to have kittens. We see that too much in rescue. You'll get to eat nice food once you recover.

Hi Nomilynn,

My kitten Nakita is being spayed right now also. I am trying to occupy myself so that I don't think too much about it. I won't be able to pick her up till tomorrow morning, but will be visiting her tonight.

Poor baby, the first time she's been away from us and I feel so bad! :(

Did you have the option of laser surgery? Also the vet gave us the options of doing blood work and an hooking up an intervenus line to stabilizer her. I never knew that there were so many options!

Best thoughts going to both kittens!

;)

Kassandra,
first after her surgery, Nakita will sleep a lot. And tomorrow you'll see that she recovers quite quickly from that.
Can't you post some pictures of her soon?
I am so curious to see her.

Nutmeg is home!!! She is actually doing better than I thought she would. I figured she would be like Tilly - trying to hard to jump and fight off the meds - but she's very calm and staying still. Right now she and Tilly are cuddling. When she got home, Bassett hissed at her (I think she smelled like other animals) but Tilly has given her a bath. I had to bring her a lampshade necklace too - she hasn't bothered the stitches yet but I know she was at the vet's office. I hope she doesn't have to wear it - she would be maaaaaaaaaaaad!!!

And, my dentist visit went well too! No cavities - and I get braces in the new year. I'm actually excited about that because I want to get it over with and I know I have to do it.

So everyone is doing fine at the Anderson household! Thanks for all the positive thoughts!!

Nutmeg is almost completely back to normal this morning. SHe is sill a bit sleepy I think (she's kind of drooping her head as she sits on the mousepad and watches me type!) but she was playing this morning (LOUDLY!!) and woke me up, and she snuggled with me most of the night. She actually has recovered faster than Bassett and Tilly did. So I'm quite pleased!

Thanks everyone for keeping her in your thoughts!
