Earthquakes....

got shoke pretty bad this AM and scared the furkids pretty good. They spend a good while in the closet which is good so I know where I can find them. Got out the carriers in case of aftershocks but they are rarely predicable. How do other kitty parents prepare for this?? Shaken AND stirred in CA..

Gosh, you made me go to the earthquake site to see what I had missed. However, as it was in Northern California, I didn't feel it.

Lut - yes, do you know that there are anywhere from 25 - 75 earthquakes A DAY in California.

Most of them are very small and no one even feels them. But this is clearly earthquake country.

When we had the large one here - a 6.7 - it scared my calico, Patches, so badly she just shook in fear. All I knew to do is just hold her and talk softly and reassure her. She never left my lap that day - and we had so many aftershocks.

Keep in mind that they will pick up on YOUR FEAR. I had to remind myself of that the morning we had the big one. It is just like having children - poor babies!

Having the carriers ready to go is not a bad idea.

This mornings earthquake was a 3.9 at about 7 AM.

It was a tiny one ...3.something but it felt like a truck hit the building since it was centered right here! I was just thinking since you can't predict it like a hurricane. My cat carriers are pretty handy but the furkids ran into the closet and I can't imagine trying to stuff them into carriers especially when I'm shaking like a leaf myself! Another good reason to chip the boys I guess just in case:rolleyes:

It is scary for the cats...ours freaked out when we have one a while ago. I just talk to them in a calm voice and the seem to settle down. I agree that they pickup on your fear...they also know they are coming before we do. The last one, the cats came running in to our bedroom and were really on edge. Once the quake hit, my hubby about jumped under the bed (BAD place to be in an EQ) with the cats. I had to coax Noah, Noel and hubby into calmness. ;)
