I saw 2 dogs in the parking lot of my office building yesterday as I was leaving to go home. i didn't see them this morning when I came in, but they were outside at around 9:30 when I went to grab something out of my car.

One is a black and tan male pitbull mix and the other is a black and grey female doxie/cattle dog mix. Both not fixed! The female keeps licking her you know what and you know what looks a bit swollen. The male is limping and sometimes can't walk on his front right paw.

The male is wearing a tan leather collar. The female an old flea collar that I cut off because it was digging into her neck. They both looks skinny.

I have called the shelters and vets in town and no one has reported them missing. Our office building is off a busy street and I am so terrified they will run into it! I can not take them home. Drake would just freak!! Should I call animal control to come and pick them up?! The female is small and probably has a good chance of getting adopted. And despite the male's friendliness and small size, I am afraid he won't make it because he's got pitbull in him.

I need advise, quick!!

EEEK!

Do you know of any friends that could watch them and then you could either put out flyers that they are missing or find homes for them.

I can't think of anything else..... it looks like you may have to call Animal Control. :(

Poor guys.

Souraya,

Is there anyone in your office building that could foster them until you could re-home them?? We could do a Pet Talk Adoption mission. Maybe we could find a no kill shelter that could take them. Could you contact www.hua.org and see if they would be willing to take them? They are located in Nebraska, but take dogs from all over the country. I wish I could help, but I'm too far away.

I have already asked people in the building if they could foster, but they said no. I have also contacted my possible fosters and they are all full.

I called animal control, and they will be here after lunch. I already gave the pups food and water and they are hanging out beside my car. They are both so sweet and calm!

Would animal control agree to keep them if you are searching for homes for them? That is so nice of you to feed them and give them water - no wonder they are hanging around your car! I hope they find a home and wish I could help.

OK. I have a plan!

Animal control will hold them for 72 hours for someone to claim them. Then, if the dog has no temperment problems, they put it up for adoption. I just got off the phone with Animal Control and made arrangements to adopt these 2. I will not be keeping them. But this gives me 72 hours to find foster care. Also, for $60.00 a dog, I can get a full examination, spay/neuter, and all shots!!

Now I need to find foster homes! Help if you are able!! I have a possible foster for the male, but he can't take him till after Thanksgiving! I will confirm this tonight after he discusses it with his wife.

Here are the pups!

You're doing such a wonderful things. Those two dogs are lucky that they walked into your life, because if not who knows if they would have had a chance. Thank you for giving those two cute faces a chance to find a home that will love them and treat them well.

If you were closer ... tonight I'll email the only person I know (who isn't on Pet Talk) that lives in Georgia, just in case. What city are you in/near? The male is so lovely, maybe you should just say he's a shepherd mix, cuase that's less scary than pitbull ...

Animal Control just picked them both up. I plan on going by there today after work to make sure they are taken care of and my name is on their file. I have spoken with the director and been guaranteed that they will give the pups to me. I also sent animal control a note with their pick up boy. The officer said he looked like a bulldog mix. I think I will go with that instead.

My coworker is pretty sure he can fost the guy. He will let me know today after talking to his wife. I have also PMed Fuzzy317 (Scott) to see if he can foster. He lives about 20 miles away from me. And one of my other cowokers said her sister was looking for an adult small female. She will ask her this weekend and get back to me on Monday!

Karen, I live in Gainesville, GA. That is about 45 miles NE of Atlanta. If you know anyone in GA willing, I will drive!!

Souraya, I sucked in my breath and said "Isn't he georgeous" when I saw the male. He is a very handsome boy.

I wish I could do something to help but sadly am too far away and don't know anyone in your area. I will say a prayer that everything works out ok for both of them. I think your plan is excellent! ;)

You are such a loving soul!

Thank you so much for saving them! I took one look at the little girl's face and my eyes filled with tears. Her face looks so much like my Susie except she looks so sad and afraid. :( I'm glad they came across a generous sole like you.

Souraya, I am not sure we can. :( We just finished fostering a great dane ,Asgrim (http://petoftheday.com/talk/showthread.php?s=&threadid=15057), and having our beagle (Sassee) treated for a mild case of heartworms. She is 100% healthy now (weight and age not counting). :)

We fostered Asgrim for Judy [email protected]. I would contact her, she is mostly toward great danes, but she has contacts for any breed.

Asgrim was pulled from a metro-Atlanta Animal Control by Paula [email protected] and she works mostly with smaller breeds.

Good Luck!! If we are the absolute last hope, we will step forward if need be. :)

Scott, Thank you so much for those contacts. I just e-mailed them both. Wish me luck!!!

Sorry to hear about Sassee. Hope she is getting better quickly!

Souraya, you are too kind. They both just melted my heart. I hope they find forever homes quickly. I AM a little confused though. Are you definitely taking them after the 72 hours???

DoggiesAreTheBest
11-22-2002, 03:58 PM
Molly, the dogs will be held by Animal Control for 72 hours. They are not open on Sunday, so I will pick them both up on Wednesday. I need to find foster homes for them by then. Then I will worry about forever homes.

My coworker just called me and said his wife said OK to fostering the male. I have a feeling they will end up falling in love with him and keeping him. Mac has been looking for a dog and just loves this guy. Now, I need to find a temporary home for the male since Mac will be out of town till the Monday after Thanksgiving. I want to see if I can have him neutered right after Thanksgiving. But that all depends on the foster situation. Worse case senario, I bring him home and have him and Drake totally seperated. Drake will go crazy and I will have clawed up doors, but I am willing to risk that.

As for the female. I am still looking. The other coworker will get back to me on Monday about whether or not her sister will adopt her. But I still need a foster for the female just in case the sister doesn't want her!

Hey Amy....Are you ready for a road trip??? Head south and pick me up and we'll go get them. What do you say???:D

Seriously, I hope the woman takes the female. It's kind of too bad that they have to be separated since it sounds like they've been together for awhile. Or am I misreading?? I'll just be glad when they get to either a foster or permanent home.

DoggiesAreTheBest
11-22-2002, 04:12 PM
They seem attached. I do not want to seperate them. But it looks like I have to! Better seperated than stray and in danger.

I already scheduled them both to get fixed and checked next Friday. The female will be ready by next Saturday.

$60 is a steal. It covers: First rabies vaccination, First Parvo vaccination, First distemper vaccination, First deworming, Health exam by a veterinarian, Heartworm check for adult dogs, second deworming for puppies. Spaying or neutering, 50% off obedience training at Lake Lanier Obedience Club.

mugsy
11-22-2002, 04:35 PM
That is a great deal. Very similar to ours. Good luck!! Maybe fate will step in and your co-worker will warm up to both of them. But, like you said....better in a safe home separate than together and stray.

I agree completely. What if they were to remain at the shelter? How long would they keep them and try to adopt them from there? The one good thing about shelters is that they have a lot of traffic coming in and out. More chances of *being seen* by a potential adopter. Of course it is not a good place to be for any extended time, and you don't want to risk them being put down.

DoggiesAreTheBest
11-23-2002, 10:41 AM
The shelter will hold on to them until they are adopted or they are totally full and need the space. I have had no luck yet finding a foster home and I have contacted at least 3 dozen people!!! I am getting so discouraged.

Souraya,

You & these doggies will be in my thoughts & prayers.
You have done soooo much already. They are no longer
wandering around alone outside somewhere. Timing seems
to be everything in matching the right people with the dogs
who need them. Please know that I think you're a wonderful
soul for trying. Don't lose hope just yet. O.K ? Prayers will
continue for a good outcome. I still remember Roxey the black
female that you helped find a forever home. If things had been
different with Buddy at that time,I would have been happy to
take her. Sometimes it's just timing. You are quite a young
lady Souraya. Your Mom must be so proud of you. :)

I have had a couple of bites on Gigi (that's what I named the beagle mix). Already turned one down because they didn't want to spay her. And waiting on a response from another. I am afraid I may have discouraged those people as well. They said they wanted her as a xmas present for their lil girls. I explained how most xmas present pets end up in shelters and how Gigi would be a life long commitment. I said if they were still interested, I would send them an application and go from there.

My roommate knows a family who may be interested in the bulldog mix (haven't named him yet). I told her to tell the guy to call me and we would discuss it. We'll see.

I haven't given up on them and don't plan on it either.

OK. Well, I was told they would be out in adoptions by Wednesday. I just checked my voicemail and the director of the shelter said they would be up for adoption on Nove 25th at 4:30 PM!! He also said he would hold them for me until the 26th and couldn't guarantee anything after that. They would be safer if they get adopted on the 25th!! Well, that's great!!!! What does he mean?

Still haven't been able to find any foster home for Gigi, the lil beagle mix. I have a foster home for the bulldog mix, but he can't go there till Monday since the family is out of town all this week!! I am going to have to try and take him home with me. Drake is going to flip and my time off is going to be super high stress trying to keep them both seperated.

Please keep these two guys in your thoughts.

A friend of mine has offered to keep the bulldog mix until Monday when my coworker can start fostering him. This is still pending his wife's OK. But he doesn't think it should be a problem.

If all else fails, I guess I may try and keep Gigi until I can find a foster home.My coworker's sister said she can't take Gigi. Something about Gigi was too big! Guess when she said she wanted a small dog she meant tiny. Oh well.

Well, I went to pick them both up yesterday and they were not there. I panicked at first, but then they showed me their paper work and both Gigi and Smokey got adopted on Tuesday morning by two good friends.

According to the shelter manager, they both whined all night and cried, so she put them in the same kennel and they did great. These 2 middle aged women came to the shelter to look and fell in love with them both. They won't live in the same house, but will get to see each other almost every day!

I haven't told my coworker yet, I bet he will be heart broken. Oh well, as long as Gigi and Smokey have a good home. Now I can have a relaxing Thanksgiving and 2 more things on my list to be thankful: the homes that Gigi and Smokey went to! They will be part of a family these holidays. What more can I ask for!
