Last Friday we got an adorable Poodle in who someone had picked up as a stray. They had found her on Tuesday and put up signs hoping to find the owner. I was hoping to NOT find the owner because she was in need of a grooming, had black gunk encrusted into her fur in several places, overgrown toenails, not spayed, not on heartworm preventative (found that out later), etc.

Anyway, her owner saw a sign and found out she was at our shelter on Sunday but she didn't call us until Tuesday. She said she was on her way but she never showed up  On Wednesday some weird guy came in and said he was the owner's cousin. We wouldn't release her to him though and said we needed the owner to come in with vet records and pictures as proof. So now she is supposedly coming in tomorrow (Friday).

I am upset and confused. By law, she is ours after we have her for 72 hours and we've had her a week now. The manager doesn't want to give her back but I think the President of the Board said we had to. This woman has already blown us off before and I hope she blows us off again. When she talks to the manager on the phone, she acts so put out. She doesn't even have time to pick up her own dog !!!!!!!!!!!! :( I just know she has the poor thing sitting in the backyard alone all the time. I wonder why she even wants her back. Oh yeah and on the phone she said, "How much is this crap gonna cost me?"

ARgh. So if tomorrow she goes back to the woman who doesn't care for her, I was wondering if you guys could say a prayer that she'll be happy there. She's really the sweetest girl. all she wants to do is be around people. You can tell she hasn't had much attention, but that hasn't changed her. I walk around work holding her like a baby.

:(

Poor Hope. I'm praying her owner doesn't come in for her and she finds a new family who will love her. But if she does go back to her owner, I'll pray the owner takes care of her and Hope will be happy there.

Poor Hope. :( She's really cute, she'd be better off if her owner didn't show up and she found a new home. Best of luck to her, all we can do is...hope. :)

I see dogs like that all the time in grooming. Dogs with freakishly long nails/splayed toes, mats and gunk in their fur, dogs that act terrified, have sores, etc. The owners just let them go I guess and put the grooming and attention off as long as they possibly can. There's been a few that I really didn't want to have the owners even pick them up also. :(

The worst was a little bunny. No, we don't normally clean bunnies, but the owner said it needed to be cleaned around its hind end. She said that it "didn't clean itself anymore." That was AWFUL...it was so scared, and to get all the stuff off she had to shave it so close (even had to shave the tail!), and it was all bloody...smelly...horrible, I did NOT want that lady to take the poor thing. I told her that she should get it to a vet, and she actually asked "Why?"

Hope is so adorable, Aly! I hope her owner won't come back. The policy at the shelter I vounteer at is if he owners come after 72 hours, they have to go through the adoption process. They can't just take the dog back. If she wanted her dog back so badly, why hasn't she showed up yet?

Thats the same policy here. I am really confused on exactly WHY we are not making the woman fill out an application... ESPECIALLY because she got this wonderful application the other day!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! She has a chance for the perfect home :(

Sorry that I dont have good news guys. It was bad :( :( I just stopped crying about it and here I go again. I'm thinking I'll just spare you guys the awful details :(

But there is a faint glimmer of hope that we may have scared them straight and they'll take better care of her now.

IF they don't take care of her, let me know, I'll find someone in Texas to take care of it. Mike knows LOTS of military guys from there. I'm so sorry, and I hope that you did scare them straight.
