My sweet bichon Kirby seems to be having another bout of pancreatitis. He hasn't been able to keep food down since Sunday. Really worried about him. Per vet instructions, he's on a low fat diet and the only treats he gets are carrots. And to his dismay, he gets no table scraps of any kind.

So it's off to the dogtor for him. The last time he had this, we almost lost him. He spent 3 days in the clinic fighting to get well.

Could use a couple of prayers for my handsome little Kirby Dude.

Thanks!

Oh dear, prayers from RI for Kirby! Hope the white coats get you sorted out quickly this time around.

How old is he now, Robin?

Prayers are going up for Kirby.. and you too. It's so stressful when a furbaby is sick. Hope Kirby gets better.

They put him on fluids, ran bloodwork and gave him antibiotic and antivomiting meds. As of 2:00 pm today, the vet said he's eaten a little soft food and kept it in, but that he's still panting a lot and doesn't look as perky as he should. So it's an overnight stay and we'll review what's happening tomorrow morning.

I know I have 5 dogs, but just having my Kirby gone makes the house seem so empty. He's my best buddy.

Just saw that Kirby had to stay the night. I know with multiples it is still surprising how one's absence is so noticeable! Continued prayers from RI.

He's home!! :D

Still don't know what caused it, but he came home today. Had 24 hours of fluids, some antibiotics and antivomiting meds. He'll be on antibiotics for a week and canned ID for 5 days. The vet said if he throws up again, bring him right in the first time, we'll do the shots and nip this in the bud.

Thank you for your prayers and positive thoughts. I was so worried. It was hard to sleep without him snoring next to me.

We both slept great. He woke up in the same position he went to sleep. Love that boy!

He threw up his dinner, so a fast call to the vet and fast trip back to the office. He's now on anti-vomiting meds twice a day; antibiotics twice a day and carafate for his stomach. I'm also feeing him 3 times a day instead of 2 - smaller meals.

Kirby is still having issues. He went to the vet on Wednesday for another shot. Seemed to be doing well until 12:15 am on Saturday morning - lost what was left of his dinner from the night before. Tried breakfast and within 1 hour it all came back up. So back to the vet on Saturday at 7:30 am. More bloodwork, another shot, two prescriptions, and a nutritional supplement later we came home. The vets can find no physical reason for him to be sick. Have to give him 3-4 small meals a day. Keep him as calm as possible and hope for the best.

Only good news we got at the vet was that he'd gained back half pound of the three pounds he's lost throughout this ordeal. For a 20 lb pupper that's a lot of weight to lose in 10 days.

Poor little guy could sure use some more prayers.

Prayers are definitely on the way for Kirby. It's just so darn frustrating when a cause can't be found for the issues, and of course they can't talk and give any clues either.

Come on Kirby - get better. Your Mom is so worried about you. Hang in there Robin - and {{{huggs}}} for you and gentle cuddles for Kirby.

I'm so sorry to hear that he's still not doing well.:( Do you think that he could be allergic to something in his diet? Could he maybe have IBD? My RB cat Storm kept throwing up his food so I also kept taking him to the vet. He was finally diagnosed with small intestinal disease which is a form of IBD. His folate levels were very low so I had to give him supplements for 6 weeks. He was put on prednisolone in the morning and pepcid at night and he never had any more vomiting issues. Lots more prayers and positive thoughts are being sent his way. Please take care. (((HUGS)))

Thank you all so much for the good wishes. The 4 vets at the office have conferred and are just baffled by this. He's had pancreatitis before, but this came on so suddenly and Woofie had a small bout of the same thing. We did find that Kirby seems to react badly to the Science Diet I/D food. The stuff they recommend for dogs with touchy tummies. Go figure.

He's currently taking metronidazole, prednisone and a nutritional supplement twice a day.

Keeping my fingers crossed. He's made it for the last 36 hours without vomiting. It seems to be one meal/one day at a time with him.

Hmmm, since another one of your dogs also had something similar, then I would look at the ingredients in the food that you're feeding them. There have also been so many recalls on pet food lately too. In my opinion, Science Diet food isn't good at all even the Veterinary diets. I'm really surprised that none of the vets mentioned that this could be a diet related thing. How is Woofie doing now? Was he put on meds too?

Woofie only had a short bout of whatever it is. So he only took a short course of antibiotics.

When we put Kirby back on his regular food his tummy seemed to settle a bit. So far, Kirby is doing well - again. He'll be on prednisone for 12 days and a much longer course of antibiotics. I'm just hoping this time it works. He looked a little more like himself on Sunday.
