My precious Ming had another urinary blockage this weekend (why do they always this on weekends?) I didn't have the money for the emergency vet, they wanted $300 just to look at him. Ming made it through the weekend and I took him to the vet this morning. My fears were realized, Ming was blocked again (it's been almost 4 years since his last blockage, so we've been lucky for awhile). His blockage was removed and he is now catheterized and resting at the vet's, where he will stay at least one night.
Ming will be fine, at least that is what the vet has told me, but this couldn't have come at a worse time. My car payment is late, everything is a struggle now, and I just didn't need the worry about Ming and how I will pay for this (over $600). I just have to trust in the Lord that a way will be provided.
Anyway, could you guys keep Ming in your thoughts and prayers? He's just the sweetest kitty ever and doesn't deserve this problem. I just want him home again, healthy and happy.
I LOVE YOU MING!:love::love:

I'm so sorry to hear this.:( I've been through this a few times with two different cats. My RB Storm blocked 2 times within a short period of time so the special diet he was on wasn't helping. He had to end up having the PU surgery and although it cost me a lot of money it was well worth it to have him to be able to be with me for many more years without having the fear of him blocking again. I hope that Ming will feel better soon and recover quickly. Lots of prayers and positive thoughts are being sent his way. Please take care. (((HUGS)))

He should be home tomorrow. Thank you guys for your kind thoughts. The week before this happened, I changed their dry food. The new food was supposedly gluten free, but I'm not so sure of that. Oh well, he will get nothing but Wilderness from now on.

I'm thinking of both you and Ming. I hope that you're both doing well. I don't know if you have a credit card to help pay for his vet bill or maybe,as Candace already mentioned, your vet will allow you to make payments. You may also be able to apply for care credit. Here's a link about it: http://www.carecredit.com/vetmed/. Lots more prayers and positive thoughts are being sent to both you and Ming. Please take care. (((HUGS)))

My vet decided to let me do payments. It's still going to hurt my pocketbook, $100 per month, but my car will be paid off in a couple of months and then that payment will be effortless! I'm just glad Ming is ok! I pick him up tomorrow morning. I can't wait to see his pretty face again.54482

Bad news. Ming reblocked after the catheter was removed at the vets. They are now recatheterizing him and giving that about 50% chance of success. They are recommending surgery, but there is no way I have the money for that! If this recathing doesn't work, we may have to send Ming to the Bridge.:( Please keep a good thought for my dear kitty,Ming.

So sorry to hear, hope the recathing works!

OMG - if surgery is needed, can the vet do payments? Try checking imom.org.
I can chip in a wee bit too - please just ask! If you have a PayPal address, or if there is a way to send the $ directly to the vet, let us know!

Thank you all for your kind replies. So far, Ming has been successfully recathed and is doing as fine as he can be doing, considering the situation. I need no money at this point, but if it is for Ming's life, I will not be afraid to ask. But so far, monetary help is not necessary. Your kind thoughts and prayers are still appreciated, though. I am also praying for little Jack, and the husband of a friend on another message board, he was recently diagnosed with cancer. God must be very busy this week!
Again, thanks so much!:love:

I've heard that sometimes cats develop scar tissue when they've been catheterized a number of times and this can then cause them to become blocked. Hopefully this isn't the case with Ming. Lots more prayers and positive thoughts are being sent to both you and Ming.

How well I know that, KAK! That is why I was so worried about the extra cathing. Ming's usual vet wasn't in and I got Mr. Grumpy vet who has a very cold and matter-of-fact manner. He told me that there was a good chance they wouldn't be able to recath him because of that. He recathed fine, however. A reblockage is not unusual for Ming. He usually has to be recathed at least once before all the crystals are completely gone. That is why when I went to pick him up today I asked if he had peed on his own. They told me that they thought they has smelled urine in his litter box so they decided to release him (wtf?) Well, just before they were bringing him out, he reblocked. I could have told them this, but I'm not the vet, am I? I will be so glad to talk to Ming's regular whitecoat tomorrow. She is super!

Ming, I hope you feel better soon.
I see the main vet and not his partner. She has no personality skills.

I talked to Ming's vet today and he is still cathed. She thinks he can come home tomorrow evening barring another blockage after they take the cath out. I've got my fingers crossed he doesn't reblock. If he does, I don't know what I'll do!

Poor Ming! If the surgery will help him and is suggested, let us know! I don't know if iMom covers this kind of surgery, but you can check there.
They have tightened their qualifications, but here's the financial page: http://www.imom.org/fa/index.htm

I went to imom and they want you to apply for Care Credit. I had CC years ago and even when I made more than I do now they only gave me $300 total. Surgery would be over $1500! Ming is home, resting, but not eating or drinking. He peed a little. I'm giving it until tomorrow night before I start to worry. He is on some strong pain meds now and antibiotics. If he isn't better by Monday the vet said there is nothing more they can do unless I can come up with big bucks for the surgery. Being poor sucks! I don't want to lose Ming because of a money issue, but that surgery is expensive!:(

I'm glad to hear that he's now home and I hope that he'll start feeling better and will soon begin to eat and drink. Some times pain meds make an animal so out of it that they just can't eat or drink. I know all too well just how expensive the surgery is because my RB Storm had it when he was 8 years old. He had to have it done by a board certified surgeon because his was a difficult case since he had the scar tissue problem. If I didn't have any credit cards, I would've never been able to have paid for his surgery and I would've lost him a long time ago. Lots more prayers and positive thoughts are being sent to both you and Ming.

Sending lots of positive thoughts for Ming, and for you. I really hope the crystals are completely gone and that he won't block up again. I've been through this with Fister years ago, he kept blocking up about every three months and in the end he had the big operation. There's been no problems since. :)
Gentle kisses to Ming and purrs from Fister. :love:

Prayers for Ming - and for you! It's horrific to be in your situation - short of money but not short of an expensive medical procedure for your beloved furchild. Do apply for CC; you can always start a Chip-In, too.

I'm not an IMOM volunteer but I've been a donor for 10 years or so. I know in that time, I have seen pets accepted for fundraising after the owner has been denied by Care Credit. I think it is just one of their requirements, that you try there first so that they don't have to try to raise as much. So, don't let it discourage you. Even if they only give you $50 bucks, that's $50 less that IMOM would have to try to raise for you.
IMOM is currently fundraising $1423 for a dog with a broken hip socket, $1790 for a dog with a huge tumor, and it recently raised $2982 for a cat with persistent right aortic arch. So, if you apply and are accepted, $1500 is definitely doable. And as much as you love your vet, with their resources, they may have contact with a vet they have previously worked with who may be able to give you a lower estimate.
Fingers, paws and whiskers crossed that Ming stays unblocked.

I'm so sorry to hear that your sweet Meezer boy Ming has been so sick.
I'm glad that he is back home again and I hope that he feels better soon and starts eating again.
I hope he doesn't need the surgery but if he does, there are lots of Pet Talkers who would be willing to help pay for it.

I'm so sorry that Ming is having all this this trouble. Hopefully he won't end up having to have surgery. Think positive - and that he will go on to a ripe old age as did my RB Meezer Ming (20 years!:)). I wish I could help out $$-wise, but things are quite tight right now. If prayers help, then please know that he has many headed his way. :love:

Well never doubt the power of PT prayers! Ming came out of hiding this morning and PEED! Three times. It wasn't a lot, but it was more than dribbles. Considering he hasn't been drinking anything other than the water we mixed with his food we force fed him, it was a sizable amount! I am waiting to see if he pees more later in the day. I may still want to get him the surgery to prevent any further blockages, but this buys me more time to allow IMOM to process everything.
THANK YOU GUYS FOR EVERYTHING!!!!:love::love::love:
