View Full Version : Cats love pizza!

I brought in a couple of Pizzas home for a weekend's change of menu. But as soon as my furkids found it, I had to squirt them away continually to keep them from totally devouring my meal. So, I had to ultimately share it with them, in order that I could eat it in peace. On the last bit of pizza, I had to eat it standing up and walking around the front room. They were climbing over each other and on me as well, in order to get a bite now and then. The worst one of the menanagerie was Nikolai. He would actually take his front paw and attempt to grab it out of my hands! And he didn't care if what he was grabbing with his claws was me or the pizza! When they did get a piece now and then, they would growl at each other to keep any cometition away. I had no idea that they were "crazy" to eat it. Has anyone out there had the same experience with their furkids and pizza?

Cats that are close to humans seem to think that whatever their parents eat must be cat food as well. Whenever I eat something, Filou asks whether he can have it, especially if it is fat or meat: butter, tandoori chicken, pizza, full fat yoghurt. But he also tried avocados, mangoes, olives but not grapefruit. Ok I give him let's say half a gram or so -just because he asks so politely;) but if it's especially yummy (steak, fish) he also will try to steal his part (stolen food is special;) ).

I know what you mean, Cam will follow me all over the kitchen stretch up on his legs so that he can see what I have on the counter, and he will give the most questioning meow ever. I will sometimes give him a little of whatever I have, but he usually won't eat it, I guess he just wants to make sure he isn't missing out on something.

Hi Wayne,
Emily does exactly the same thing. She will sit and look at me with that "poor pitiful kitty" stare which means she thinks that I am starving her. :D :D
Anything that involves meat or dairy products (like pizza) we usually end up having a "discussion" about how she can not eat it at the same time I am still eating ;)

Edwina has to smell anything I have....chocolate, wine, diet pepsi even! She rarely wants to taste but she must smell it before I eat/drink it. Perhaps she was a roayal food taster in a past life! :D  ;)

Hum... That's never happened to me. But something like it. My cat goes CRAZY for coffee. It's funny when she drinks it but it's bad for her so I only let her drink it once in a while out of my cup. Also my dog does -2-. Thunder is the only one who doesn't. He's such a good boy!:p
Tubby & Peanut's Mom

That's funny, Wayne. :D
Tubby loves pizza. 'Course I haven't found anything that Tubby doesn't love. :)
But I believe his pizza fetish started back when it was only me and him against the world. Friday night was pizza night. I would bring a pizza home after work with a movie. I'd put the movie in and start baking the pizza. When it was done, Tubby and I would have pizza while we finished the movie. I look back on it now and I miss those days of just me and Tubby.....sometimes. ;) :D
Peanut is much more finicky than Tubby. She will sniff at whatever we give her, but not necessarily eat it. I did find out last night, though, that she likes key lime pie which kind of surprised me. Oh, and Tubby didn't like it, which was another total surprise. ;)

I'm LOL at the image of Wayne having to eat standing up - I'm surprised it doesn't happen more often with 12 furkids in the house! As much as my kitty loves cheese (he's from Wisconsin, ya hey), he does not like pizza! I have offered him all kinds, since I kinda like pizza and I have several "dealers" in the area to give me my fix, but he's not interested. He was quite interested this morning in my bowl of Honey Nut Cheerios, but just the milk - he stood on the arm of the chair next to me and drank the milk while I ate the Cheerios. Come to think of it, that was the first time I've seen him drink milk in all the time I've had him! He also loves baked goods, like doughnuts and muffins - if I'm eating those, he'll come next to me and gently paw at my shoulder or arm until I give him a little bite. I know that look that Emily does - there's 3 of us in this house and kitty always takes the 4th chair at the dinner table, and then he cocks his head completely to the side and looks at our food with big round eyes.
Most of the time he doesn't like what we're having, but he LUVS chicken and we indulge him with scraps (since it's high protein, low fat). I couldn't get this kitty fat if I tried - he has a naturally lean metabolism and he's SO picky.

Bastet does the Counter Reach to see if she can get anything off the counter. Its a great exercise - kind of like pilates for cats.
Then if she can't get anything off the counter she does the pitiful meow and stare.
She loves pizza but only after I remove the vegetables. A word of warning, onion, capsicum, spicey food - such as jalopenos can cause jaundice in cats - very very bad for them. She licks it to death while purring. I think its the salt *laughs*.

  When Filou was a baby he one day ate a jalapeno. I had removed it from a Bolognese sauce and it was still on the kitchen counter. I think he just smelled the meat. I was afraid he would die because poor little Filou was breathing and panting, his small body was shaking and I had no idea what he had until I saw the jalapeno was gone. (And of course it happened rather late in the evening). After 2 hours it started to get better and he slept calmly and was ok then. Of course I am now much more careful but I hadn't dreamt that he would just eat something like that! He's a crazy little boy when it comes to food.
Pizza , did anyone say PIZZA ????
oh oh , my kitty-cats love to "steal" some . Maya jumps on the table , kicks whatever leftovers she can find on the ground , and a kitty party is starting ...
So the message here is : Lut , clear that table , before your cats can steal anything ...  :D :D :D

Wayne I can relate you, mines like pizza too:D. When we have pizza we sure have a furryaudience. However five felines are easyer to deal with than twelve. And my boys are sooo well mannered, certainly they didn't learn it from me. LOL
The other day we left the borders for them
and they munched on very content like a was giving them the best of the goodies.
They don't figth or hiss over ....they are so well mannered.
T&P Mom, this friday nigths souds familiar to me. It's the same we did with Koxka while we were alone. It was the time to feel free of duties, and dreaming how the week-end will turn out ..funny?boring?.
And yes I also miss those days sometimes

My guys love pizza. I only give them the soft parts of the crust. Their favorite food is ice cream. Neko actually goes cross-eyed when he reaches for the spoon!

Bastet's all time favourite food is .... butter chicken that I cook from scratch.
She also likes, peas, lettuce and rocket.
She like icecream when she can get it because I know full well its bad for her and cream - but that must be cold!
The one thing she really goes mad for is buffalo chicken wings. I literally have to lock her in the bathroom so I can eat dinner!

A few of you mentioned chicken. Sometimes I will bring home a couple of BBQ'd chickens from the grocers. I have the same problems with my furkids as I do with them and pizza. But there are a few of them who do NOT get excited over the meal. There are about 7 of them that continually bug me over what I am eating. Those that do not get excited over my meals are Amy, Otis, Prince, Blue-Czarina, and Tiara. Otherwise all of my kitties with gray on them can be terrors when it comes to begging for food. One thing with the chicken is I can always give them the bones with some meat left on them, such as the legs and wings. They growl at each other whenever one claims a morcel. Yesterday, Littlebit (the smallest of the pride) growels the most ferocious and attmpts to hold off the others with her paw while she eats. The worst of them are Nikolai, Nightshade, Littlebit, Cookie, Fawn, and Tiger. It usually helps if I feed all of them first with a mixture of dry and canned food first before I get my meals ready. :D

Some of my cats like some people food and others don't care. Elder Smokey, Moby and Diva would mug you for chicken or lamb. Mischief ate raw pumpkin(!). Foster Mittens went ape for Cheezits. Diamond loves potato chips. Bosun will steal meat off the counter if we don't put it away.
Moby used to eat pizza as a kitten. That's because she was rescued from behind a pizza place. She's also a bread thief!:)

I am convinced I don't have cats, but I have people in fur. Here is the run down:
Allie- nothing but cat food-including treats.
Tenny- not much besides cat food.
Dakky- a little more than cat food.
Texas and Georgia- EVERYTHING- pizza, chinese, pretxels, chips, cantaloupe, peaches, protein shakes...spaghetti, meat, cheese, ice cream...

Ahh!! Careful with chicken bones.. they splinter and can cause serious damage in the cat's digestive system. Might be better to feed them chunks of chicken :D :D
I can't imagine trying to eat with 12 cats to assist me.. I think I would end up eating the cat food while they munched on my good stuff :D

Nomilynn, Yes, I am aware of the bones issue for cats. That is the reason I give them the larger bones to pick off of. Some of you mentioned other types of people food that our furkids like to eat. Other than meaty foods, and those containing dairy products, the factor of them eating other types of food differs according to my indvidual cat's preferance. Again, the worst one is Nikolai about raiding whatever I am eating. Some of them will eat certain types of foods while leaving other alone. Otis is the only furkid that I have now, who doesn;t crowd me when I am eating anything that a cat would like. Also, he is the only one who patiently waits for food to be served, without attempting to climb my leg! Tiger is getting into the habit of jumping on my shoulders when she is hungry. I don't mind her doing this as long as she doesn't use her claws.:)

Yes: sometimes, Filou tries to step from the chair on the table. Then I say to him: Why do you want to steal my food- I never steal yours. Then he answers: I would be glad if you helped yourself with my food. (You see that we discuss it very politely:p )

I have never seen or heard of a cat liking Pizza, But that's hilarious. I would have love to see that!
I had a cat that loved eatting Strawberries. Every Sunday I would make pancakes and would have home made Strawberry syrup with small strawberries in it, well… Jasmine would hang around and paw at my leg and sit at the head of the table to get my attention so I would give her a strawberry. It was so funny to watch her eat it. lol

Spoiled cats much? :D
At our house, Bo is the beggar. He will push the three big dogs away so he can be first in line to beg. When I cook (rare...but i do cook once in awhile), he is underfoot all the time. Bo will eat almost anything.
I think Hanna is going to be the same way. I was eating pumpkin pie here at the computer yesterday, she was right up next to me - I had to stand up to finish it. Luckily Hanna is not out all the time yet - she is restricted to the back part of the house until I can trust her around the mutts.
Abby wants nothing to do with human food - she won't even eat canned cat food. The only human food she has ever eaten was a tiny piece of a Ritz cracker.

My beloved "Kitty Boy" Mittens used to love pizza crust! After I ate the toppings and chewed down to the crust, he got it! He would wait ever so patiently until I finished that first piece, so he could get started!

kimlovescats. Your Mittens was certainly a beautiful tabby. I have only one furkid that patiently waits for me to give him something to eat, whether it is their food or mine, namely Otis, my recently adopted older flame-point Siamese. Tiger also waits, but I still have to watch her, because she is an opportunist.:)

Edwina's Secretary, the picture of your kitty on the table is funny. What is your cat eating? Is that chicken? (lol)
My cats also lounge just about everywhere in the house, but their favourite spot is the dinner table. Katie is a little rascal, last night I was sitting at the dinner table eating my dinner and Katie gradually made her way up on to the table… well she came over to me and sat right next to my plate and touched my mashed potatoes with her little paw and smudged it on to the edge of the plate so she would be able to lick it off her paw.(lol)
Anyway… I thought it was so funny that she was nervy enough to do that.
Thank you wayne for the warm welcome here. I love reading everyone’s stories and it’s also a great place to get some good advice. :)

Texas does that to me. He starts about four feet away, and inch by inch creeps closer to the plate, until he is using his paw to pull my fork hand closer to him...like I don't notice a black object getting closer and closer?? Finally, I just push all my food to one side, put his on the outer edge, and we both finish in silence. :D

I've never had pizza-eating cats - but here's a rundown of some other food favorites.
Our RB kitty Lucy (1983-1994) loved spagetti with meat sauce and parmesean cheese.
Our RB kitty Crystal (1981-1998) loved chicken liver and the crusts from Pepperage Farm's raspberry turnovers.
Our RB kitty Quincy (2000-2002) didn't ever show much interest in people food - he was a hunter and prefered to dine on the real thing.
Our boy Sid shows absolutely no interest in people food, or even kitty snacks. As long as he has a bowl full of dry food, he's a happy camper - but he does enjoy the wet food "treat".
Jan loves coffee beans. She's also sneaky and is suspected of getting into the sink or on the counter to scrounge for leftovers that haven't been put away, but she is very sneaky and we aren't able to catch her in the act.
Joxer is the nose. He is so cute - he likes to sniff at new smells and moves his head around as he sniffs - trying to get the smell just right. He loves tuna and cheese.
