Hi Tiglet! Cute name by the way! You look beautiful and healthy. One would never know you are battling 2 diseases. So sorry to hear that, but it looks and sounds like it doesn't hold you down in the least. I laughed when I read your humans name your backyard buddies. Congrats Tiglet  !

Thank you to everyone that replied to Tiglet's photos/profile! Very nice of everyone to do so. Tiglet is definitely a brave little girl and hopefully she is able to combat both of these diseases. Actually, her diabetes is currently in remission and she has not received an insulin shot in over a month so that is some good news even though she is still labelled as a "diabetic". Thank you for everyone's prayers and thoughts. It is deeply appreciated and I thought Tiglet deserved some recognition for how tough she has been fighting and continues to do so.

Thank you :)

I am so happy to meet you Tiglet - I am sure your fur parent's tribute will educate a lot of people about these diseases. Too often a vet will tell the person to let the cat go (euthanize) but it is often not necessary and it upsets me that the vets give up so easily and don't tell us our options. My Angel Beyli had kidney failure and after being diagnosed (late - seems the vets didn't know how to read the blood tests properly!) he was with me for 5 more years happily. What helped him and I to live with these disease was giving him good quality canned food (dry food makes dehydration worse, and clumping litter with sodium bentonite is VERY dangerous - turns to cement in the box and does the same in your cat); gave him SubQs every few days (he took them like a little trouper knowing I was helping him to feel better); medications were Fortekor (generic Benazepril) for blood pressure which tends to be a problem with CRF and Famotidine (ie. Pepcid) which helps the kidneys a great deal because it cuts down on the acid buildup which causes vomitting and therefore dehydration. None of this is very expensive to do (got most of it at Wal-Mart) and takes little time.

I hope you and Tiglet are together for a long time. She is definitely acting like a cat - usually people who say they are like a dog just don't understand cats. There is a misconception that cats do not interact with us, just lay around and this is so not true, as we all know.

I actually wanted to say that Tiglet has been treated with one of the best and caring vets, Dr. Ellis. She has been wonderful and we are able to keep in touch with her 24/7 should we have any questions and concerns. We have been very lucky in that regard. Tiglet receives subq fluids 3 times a week and is on ranitidine as well. She is also on the special Hills k/d food but of course, very picky so we often have to give her other canned food which isn't as good for her but the important thing is that "she is eating" and she has to keep on eating or else her sugars go very low. We have noticed that if she regularly eats, it keeps her sugars in normal range, however, when she stops eating even for a few hours, it goes low. It's pretty hard to jungle both diabetes and kidney disease because each disease is opposite of one another. Luckly, it appears the diabetes is in remission for now. We used Lantus insulin for Tiglet and I must say that it did wonders for her. After doing tons of research on kidney failure, I realized that with treatment, we can try to stabilize and control her disease and while she has her good and bad days, this past week has been a blessing as she has had a very good week. We are pretty sure that the diabetes/kidney disease created one or the other, but the important thing is that it was caught. I really hope she is with us for years to come as well. The thing that is troubling is that she is still very young and it has been a very emotional time for us trying to deal with everything and the shock and knowing that any day, she could take a turn for the worse. Thank you for your thoughts and prayers. I am also sorry to hear about Beyli. It's a very terrible disease to watch your cat go through. Thank goodness there are medications that can help make them more comfortable, but it's a really horrible thing to go through.

Greetings beautiful Tiglet! Happy Cat of the Day to you!:)

I can't imagine a more deserving Cat of the Day honoree than you, beautiful girl! My eyes were filled with tears mere sentences into your Mommy's beautiful, heartfelt tribute to her best girl!

What a smart, loving, sociable, simply amazing kitty you are, Tiglet; a fighter and survivor with the courage of a lion! I'm so sorry to hear of your serious health challenges, Tiglet. As has been said, looking at you it's hard to imagine you are at all ill! And what a trooper you are, taking your medications and treatments, your vet visits, with such acceptance and grace. I have a feeling you know how important your treatments are, that your parents are only trying to help you, assuring you will be with them for a long time to come!

My Buddy was diagnosed with diabetes at age 15, and CRF at 17. Though a senior well up there in years, he too took his medications and fluids willingly and lived many more happy and active years! But as your Mom has said, it is very difficult dealing with/treating just one of your two conditions. But, having to treat them both simulatenously, especially as each condition's dietary needs are polar opposites and maintaining a safe blood sugar level is paramount, is a challenge...as well the fact that neither diet is quite as tasty and appealing as "regular" food, more difficult still. I remember so well those joyful days when I would see my Buddy eating well...the happiness I felt is hard to describe, but I know your Mommy can relate. But thankfully you are the under of one of those truly special vets, available at a moment's notice, and what a blessing that is, and a great comfort for your Mommy emotionally, no doubt!

I could go on and on about how special you are, Tiglet, but your Mommy's closing says it best of all...

"She has taught me what unconditional love is and what someone will do to try to protect and help their cat by every means necessary. She is my best friend and she will always be."

How blessed you and your Mommy are to have found one another, Tiglet. It was written in the stars that you and she would be together...forever and always...best friends and soul mates for life!:)

I hope and your family, your parents and fursis Janie, and your sweet little furry and feathered friends from the great outdoors, Theodore and Freddy; ALL of your adoring friends and fans, are reveling in your much deserved day of honor! Lots of love and cuddles and kisses to you, beautiful Tiglet! I'll be keeping you in my prayers, sweetheart, wishing for you and your wonderful parents, many, many more happy years of shared unconditional love and devoted companionship!:love::love:

I wanted to take this opportunity to thank everyone that took the time to message about Tiglet. I am sure if she could understand, she would have been ecstatic to know that people/cats she has never met, wanted to send her the best wishes for getting well and being “cat of the day”. I thought everyone’s comments/advice/stories were very heartfelt and it’s nice to know that in our society today, that there are still people out there that take the time to support one another and praying for those that are in need of prayers. As some of you realized, Tiglet is the closest thing I have to a child. While I do have another cat and I love them both equally, Tiglet is the one that is sick and at times it’s difficult to try to give both of them attention at the same time. Each pet is very special in their own ways, and I would do anything for Tiglet. Just the mere thought of not having her with us, honestly breaks my heart. I have spent a lot of time grieving when we first found out she had kidney failure as I thought we were going to lose her shortly as it didn’t look very good for her. Two weeks ago, we had to rush her to the vets because she was feeling very unwell.. but with antibiotics, she pulled through and last weekend and this past week she has been having a fantastic week.. back to her little Tiggy self. I know we have to take each day as it comes and while Tiglet will have her good and bad days, it’s really great to know that there are people out there that we can talk with and support and share our stories together. Thank you again to everyone for keeping Tiglet in your thoughts. It’s really very thoughtful and appreciated.

Dear Tiglet's owner,
I too have a cat, "Crissy", who had kidney disease, i also lost my first cat smokey to kidney disease 10 years ago, my vet couldn t help, although he tried. 2 months ago crissy was about at the end of her losing battle with kidney disease , i put her on iam cat food orange bag, tuna flavor ,she improved slightly but she was not cured. I prayed that God would help her, then i found an old book in the house on nutrition by adelle davis written in the 1970 s. i looked under kidney disease and found that you could cause kidney disease in animals experiments by omitting a b vitamin called choline completely from the animals diet and then cure the animal in a matter of weeks by adding back the vitamin choline generously in the diet . i knew that all cat foods have the choline on the ingredient label but i knew many of these vitamins are synthetic and are not naturally occuring in the food. i looked on line to find that a can of carnation evaporated condensed whole milk had 250 milligrams of choline in every cup but regular whole milk had only 10 milligrams in every cup. this is not the sweetened kind, but the regular can of evaporated whole milk which i found is very easily digested .i tried the store brand but she will only drink the more expensive carnation brand of this can liquid whole milk also it must be the whole can milk, not low fat . long story short she only drinks about one fourth of a can twice a day in the beginning i would put some on my finger and put on her lips until she drank on her own . 2 months later she has put her weight back on and no longer has kidney disease . also use a fresh can every day then discard rest or use yourself , i drink what is left in the can , do not use same can the second day, the choline potency is lost after one day , also although my vet is good he is not into nutrition and i got a no comment from him, also i was about to send this message the day tiglet was pet of the day but we had a blackout for a week with a snow storm and then my computer was down until yesterday . i hope you will see this message and i will say a prayer that this will help tiglet too, may God bless you all , from MADDY

I thought I would share with everyone that we lost our little Tiggy back on February 3. I had composed the below about her and thought I would share it with everyone. A few weeks after Tiglet passed away, I found out I was expecting my first child and we also purchased our first home. I honestly believe in my heart and soul that this all happened because of Tiglet and she didn't want us to be sad thinking about and leaving a lasting effect on us. I am trying to think of a middle name for my child once it's born in the Fall that will honour Tiglet.

I wish to let everyone know that after a tough, courageous and admirable battle with at first diabetes, and then kidney failure, our beloved Tiglet passed away surrounded by the utmost love this morning. Ultimately, kidney failure progressed so rapidly that it could no longer be controlled and it was the best choice to make before it became too unbearable for Tiglet, that she pass away peacefully.

Tiglet fought a horrible disease while having countless medications and injections on a daily basis. She was truly a trooper and I'll always admire her strength. Instead of mourning, we will celebrate her life and all the stories and memories we share of her.

For those that knew Tiglet, you were very fortunate. She was not your average cat. She had spunk, was an attention seeker, enjoyed following around mommy and daddy, going for outdoor walks on her little harness and leash (she walked better than most dogs!) and was very smart and attentive. She preferred to be around us than take cat naps that included waking us up so she could snuggle up and sleep with us. She disliked when we went to work and definitely let us know it. However, she would always be by the door waiting to welcome us home with her tail up at its highest. She lived each day to the fullest and brought a smile to each person she met and knew.

Tiglet was the best part of me and was and will always be my best friend. We will miss her dearly, never forgetting that she was our little "spoiled princess with a fur coat".

Tiglet will remain in our hearts and memories forever. She was truly one of a kind and irreplaceable. We will miss how she always wanted to see and smell what was for dinner, miss the way she would tell US she wanted to eat and all her little facial expressions and her quirky little sounds, mannerisms and running like a maniac around the house.

Till we see you again my shining angel. I know you will be in heaven sticking your nose where it doesnt belong and letting everyone know you have arrived. I will miss those beautiful eyes and your quirky little remarks the most. Sleep tight, play safe, and behave and we'll be together again very soon. I'll search all ends of heaven for you when it's my time. I promise.

We love you and will never forget you. You have left a permanent indent in our hearts, minds and souls. We love you baby.

Love always
Mommy, Daddy and Janie (yes Janie misses you)

Rest in peace, dearest Tiglet. What a wonderful life you have lived, full of love and warmth and fun and good food. Now you are a beautiful Angel at the Rainbow Bridge, healthy and whole and waiting to welcome your beloved family members HOME.. One Fine Day.

To Mommy, Daddy and Janie, my deepest sympathy to you and all who love and miss and grieve Tiglet so much. Love is eternal, and you are together always.

God bless, and :love::love::love::love::love::love::love::love:,

Thank you so much for your comments and words. I love the rainbow bridge poem and it's so befetting for Tiglet. It's how I picture her and I miss her terribly. There are no words that can describe how much I miss her and how I wish I could feel her close by me. It's been almost 3 months and while I have been keeping busy there are times that I just think of her and when I don't think of her, I feel guilty for not thinking about her. Janie has been doing good and is a very different cat these days. She has learned to become more independent yet very affectionate at the same time. I have noticed that I have been leaning on her more and more each day. I really miss Tiglet and I wish she didn't need to be taken from us so early in her life. She would have enjoyed all the exciting things that are taking place right now. I hope she understands our decision to let her slip away peacefully, instead of painfully, was one of the hardest decisions I've ever had to make in life. I feel like I let her down as I tried everything to keep her comfortable and make her better. I knew there was no cure but I thought I would have had a lot longer with her. I love her so much as if she were a child. I am not just saying she was unique because she was mine, but she really was one of a kind. It's hard to think it's only been 3 months. I just miss everything about her... I cannot wait to see her again. I love and miss you tiggy.
