We are thinking of making another cat tree for the furbabies when we move. Do you have any pics of your cat trees? I found Efrat's, Chinadoll's and The Cat Factory's in a search. Any others you can share?
If you have made one, what type of material did you use for the vertical poles?
Thanks!
I just got this one for my birthday!! I'm posting the pic from the catalogue's website because I'm still setting mine up. I will take pics when I have it up. I'm going to get another bigger one when I move in a couple months!

Thanks Aly, that's great, particularly the hollow sleeping shape at the top! I'm sure your cat family will love it :)

My cats think it is the best thing to play on and lay high up in the tree. I actually want to get more, but can never decide exactly which one to get next.
One that have was handmade (but not by me) and the vertical poles are wooden beams 4 inches by 4 inches.

I have a couple of cat trees for my babies. One with a hamper + tubes and platforms - they don't like the hamper though. I think it's so cute...they don't care, lol!
I also have one I can keep building and adding to - I just order the parts I want...it's almost up to the ceiling now!

Here's ours, we didn't build it though, we bought it. Well, we did have to put it together, but that was piece of cake with 2 helping cats around

I just got through making one for my furkids. Although it is not finished, as it still has to be carpeted and wound with rope. But some of my cats appear to like to sleep in it. The verticals are 2- 2x4s' held together by dry-wall screws, with a lower shelf about half way up and then a top shelf that is up about 9ft.(3 meters) from the floor. There are 3 horizontal wooden bars, about 12 inches (apx, 4.8 cm) apart that facilitate my furkids ascent to the top. It is fastened to the wall by means of the top shelf, and placed in a portion of the room where I can watch them play on it. They all have taken turns trying it out at sundry times. But there are only 2 of them that like to sleep on it, namely; Amy, and Cookie. Amy is the only one who uses it all the time.

My cats adore it. They have a cat tree that goes from the bottom to the ceiling with one platform and 2 hammocks. The upper one, about 1 foot under the ceiling is favorite sleeping place Number 1. The second one a little below is well accepted.
They also like to play. If I throw a mousie up there you can see them in no time rushing up. For house cats that cannot go out it' s a good replacement for a tree.

Thank you everybody :) And thanks Koxka for the e-mail, there are some great trees! I am envious of Casper and Kitty's hammock, if I were a cat I'd spend all day lazily swinging in it!

I have a big tree I got from Petsmart - the vertical poles are made from real trees - bark and everything. They aren't wrapped with anything. I can take a picture if you'd like to see. The carpet part is pretty ripped up (I've had it almost ten years), but the tree poles are as good as new. The cats prefer to rip on the carpet parts.
Has anyone re-carpeted a cat tree?

Miss Meow-
Here's some links to places to buy cat trees, and plans for making them.

I am pretty handy around the house, making stuff. I just finished a 10 foot cornice for the curtain rod in our bedroom, I made a cedar shoe rack, and many scratching posts. But, when it comes to putting that carpet on a cat tree and not having it fray, I'm afraid I did'nt have the skill to make that happen. So, (I took all of that money I daved by making everything else around here, ha, ha and) I bought one.
The boys LOVE it! Ever since it got here over a year ago. Mr. Jones, I noticed had not been going up it in a long time, so I finally put him up there and it was a light bulb going on. Maybe Snowy told him he couldn't go up anymore or something, but then Mommy said he could. So everyday now he goes up and naps, and Snowy reaches up and hassles him.

My cats love their cat trees so much that they've torn off all the carpeting on one of the posts. I bought some blue nylon rope and repaired the one post. I also have a tower that I got for free. Someone in my building was throwing it out. Sunny loves to hide in it. Here's an older pic of all three of them on it.

Here's mine, Bo and Abby. This picture shows the top two things, below Abby is a tube, and below the tube is a square box with a hole. The whole thing is about 6 feet high. I have it right next to the window, they can look out and see the birds and squirrels.

That is a very nice 'tree', and I do mean tree. They look very contented with it.

I didn't know if you had pics of both of my cat trees, so here ya go...
http://www.animalsoup.net/members/tdomil/cattrees.jpg
I know some people use a small ladder and use a roll of thick sisal rope to wrap around the ladder and steps for the scratch part and then they take a large cardboard tube(if you go to a home improvement store, I believe it's the base they use to pour concrete pillars) and cut it in half or keep it whole, cover it in carpet and attach to either one of the steps or top of the ladder...and voila cat tree. So for that project all you'd need is a small ladder, a roll of sisal rope, 1 or more large cardboard tubes, carpet pieces, and patience! I can't find the website right now that has the instructions and pictures for what I'm describing, but when I find it, I'll post it.
