Ritzy sits in this position a LOT and I always think it looks really uncomfortable, like she's all tensed up and ready to pounce, but she will sit like this for hours....her tummy parts barely touch the floor when she is like this....I call it kind of a "hover cat" pose...
tuxluvr
11-09-2002, 10:59 AM
...also I think this pose makes her looks HUGE - like she is trying to imitate a Thanksgiving turkey:eek:

Yep. mine do it all the time. Here's a pic of Neko. When he sits like that, the lighter colored grey fur on his shoulders sticks out and it looks like he has 2 white shoulders!

Hmmm... Does she do this pose most often after watching Marlon Brando in "The Godfather" videos? What other imitations does she do?

Ritzy: "You talkin to me??"

ROTFLOL...she does look like a real "wide load" in this shot, like she just ate a whole thanksgiving turkey!
And Neko, PUmpkin is just scrumptious! Looks like PUmpkin is doing a balancing act, all the toes really close together! How sweet

If I didn't know better, I'd say that was my Cookie ! Recently rescued from the streets and COD a few days ago. She sits like that ALL the time...on the floor, on my bed, on top of the computer, on the scanner ! She usually has her left paw tucked under her right one . :)

So glad to finally meet Cookie's caretaker, and welcome to Pettalk - could we coerce you into finding a way to post some pics so we can see those hidden "white parts"? cookie is gorgeous and we have a lot of tuxedo-cat fans here at Pettalk!

Our duo doesn't sit like that, but oh so many other funny ways though

wow!!! THERE IS a striking resemblance! Ritzy has 3 white spots, shaped like diamonds...one under her chin, one on her chest between front legs and one between the back legs (look at the picture in my signature)...looks mighty familiar! And what a great pic - cats can relax and sleep in such neat places. Is Cookie as full of personality as she looks?

Cookie is as sweet as her name - never a growl or hiss, just sweet meek meows. But if I'm not up by 6 am, she takes the blanket in her teeth and shakes it ![COLOR=blue]

Yewhew, thanks for the extra shots of Cookie, she is gorgeous! Welcome to Pet Talk, by the way...

Juni also sits like this and I she looks a little bigger than normal, but not that big. Her father was a 6kg cat, but her mom - Naomi was twice smaller than Juni now, so she looks more like Naomi. She does a lot of exercises, still, her belly fur hangs like her father's.
Yewhew, so glad to see finally Cookie's hidden white spots. We want more pictures!

That pose certainly does look uncomfortable. Marius will perch like that on the end of our couch. It's a semi-catloaf position. Maybe I'll start calling it the "sumo position"! ;) :D

Wow   Ritzy does look huge!!! And that sumo wrestler reference is hilarious!!! :D Tubby is way too relaxed (read: couch potato) to sit like this for long. Peanut does occassionally, but not that often either.
It seems Edwina keeps her "elbows" in and Ritzy sticks them out because Edwina actually looks quite slim in that picture, where Ritzy, OMG, Ritzy does look like a Thanksgiving turkey!!! :D :D

It's funny, because the name my family had for this pose also had an Asian reference - my dad had this stupid 45 record (oops, I just dated myself) of a jazz band playing a song called "Squatty Roo", kind of a Japanese-sounding song. So my sisters and I used to call this the "Squatty-Roo" when our kitties were in that position.

SQUATTY-ROO.....now THAT's funny....poor Ritzy, if she only knew how we were making fun of her.
As to her weight, she's about 13lbs, and according to vet, well and healthy and within normal kitty parameters. I'm guessing if you took a picture of me in a "squatty roo" position it wouldn't be too flattering either (which is why I avoid cameras whenever possible - after age 40, almost every picture looks kind of "squatty roo") :)

:D :D Amen to that! When they started the thread of "what do you look like", my first instinct was to say YOU DON'T WANT TO KNOW! I still have to rummage around in some old shoebox somewhere and come up with a picture of me from way back, when I was still reasonably attractive:p ;) Good thing I already got my man:D :D because I'd have a hard time of it now!

that has been officially dubbed in Pettalk as the "full doily cat" position :) ...and a true "meatloaf" has a smoother, more rounded texture to the overall presentation (no kitty elbows sticking out like turkey wings ) :)http://www.imagestation.com/picture/sraid38/p39dd8d6e445a82290c4072305ae3fe59/fd109881.jpg
I also call the "meatloaf" pose the "parade float" kitty because you can't see the "wheels" or "feet":D ;)

I'll also add this one so everyone can clearly see the difference between "parade float/meatloaf" and "turkey." :D

At any rate, Rocky often likes for one of his limbs to be extended.
