Her eyes are beautiful. Most babies measuring 5 feet would be considered big, but newborn giraffe, Margaret, at Chester Zoo, UK is seen as unusually small for her species. She is one of the smallest giraffes ever born at Chester Zoo, but pint-sized Margaret will soon be an animal to look up to.

Little Margaret, who is the first female Rothschild giraffe born at the zoo, is being hand-reared by her dedicated keepers. The first calf for six-year-old mum Fay, Margaret, who was born two weeks early, tipped the scales at just 34 kilos (75 lbs) and is a mere 5 ft tall.

Tim Rowland's, team leader of the Giraffes section, said: 'Margaret is one of the smallest giraffe calves we have ever seen. Fay isn't the largest of giraffes and Margaret was also early which might go some way to explaining her size. 'Margaret was having difficulty suckling so our keeping team are now hand-rearing her.

Aww! I wish I could meet her in real life! :D

You can.
A taxi ride to the airport.
A plane to Heathrow.
A quick stop outside the airport for some fish and chips.
Onto the Greyhound Bus.
Arrive at Chester.
Some more fish and chips.
Visit Margaret.
Go home. ;)

Haha!! :D If I really did this, it would be like this:

A taxi ride to the airport.
Eat some burgers and drinks
A plane to Heathrow.
Eat some more food and some more food on the plane too.
A quick stop outside the airport for some fish and chips.
And buy some extra ones for the trip.
Onto the Greyhound Bus.
Eat the extra fish and chips I bought.
Arrive at Chester.
Buy some food from a stall.
Some more fish and chips.
Buy extra.
Visit Margaret.
Eat some food as I look at her.
Go home.
Eat some snacks :D

Now that's more like it :)

They really are beautiful creatures. How cool to have that zoo-keeper's job for this.

There is a video of her on Youtube. Towards the end you can see her kissing the zoo keeper. :)

Chester zoo is my 'local' zoo and although they do have a young giraffe her name is Tula. Margaret was born back in 2008, had a set-back for a short while but recovered from that and was/is fine. She moved to London zoo in 2009.
You can see part of her story here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VAykBTxgaBk. (Sheba, the elephant featured in the video sadly died earlier this year aged 56.)
