View Full Version : Rant...on the Vet

Took J-dog into the vet on Monday. He has the most sensitive stomach of any creature alive, really. He busted out ALL screens in my house over the previous 5 days, trying to get out and do his emergency business in the yard. :( Two times he was successful. Thank GOD he didn't break a leg, nor get hit by a car as he frolicked for hours by himself. Thank GOD all my cats were corralled back indoors. The mess in the basement was clean up-able.
Anyhow, on to the vent. The visit cost $229. Yup. I was irritated by it all, doing these stupid fecals/floats, when I know it is nothing but eating cat poop and the half sandwich from a street worker, and 5 biscuits from a well meaning neighbor. He had the SAME issue in June (and July...which I was able to bring back around), and probably 3 other times in the 15 months I have had him. He acts fine, he is not dehydrated, he just has uncontrollable diarrhea.
So, what is my rant? When I dropped off the balance of $29 directly to the vet (I had taken $200 cash..thinking it was enough!) the following morning (not quite 15 hours later...), with Jasper at my side, do you think he even bothered to ask, "So, how is he doing today?" Nope. Guess if he couldn't charge for a visit...he wasn't asking.
UGH.

I don't blame you - something like that wouldn't sit well with me either. If you don't absolutely love this vet, maybe you should consider a change. Check around with different people and maybe they have a vet they could recommend.
I love my guy's vet - Dr Annie. If I take only one pup in, she still always asks how the other one at home is doing. She's just a down to earth country gal who loves animals, has a small clinic without all the fancy trimmings, and a HUGE clientele. She even makes house calls one day each week. :)
Hope J-dog is feeling much better by now. Poor boy........:(

I agree, that if you don't like how you are being treated, for whatever reason(s), do yourself and your pet a favor, and get a new Vet. I did that years ago, and have never looked back with any regrets.
My vet has increased in price, but the Vet and the staff are just the best. I can't really complain about costs, as I know everything has gone up over the past few years.
Sorry to hear about your poopy stories. Prue, my dog, has a problem with too many treats from time to time. I hate it when she has pooping issues. At least your dog tries to get outside. Not so much for Prue... She believes that you go when you need to go!
Good luck!:D

Sounds like the vet needs a good smack up side the head! And pup dog needs a share of my meds for my IBS-diarrhea that settle the bowel down so you can "hold it", or "make it" to the bathroom. What I lovingly call my Don't Sh*t Your Pants Pills!
I do hope he's feeling better now.

A co-worker just came to me and my cubicle neighbor and asked us about vets. She said her vet always "yells" at them about not brushing their dogs enough or whatever. She said she is just tired of dealing with her.
So my cubicle neighbor recommended the vet she uses. Co-worker #1 went right to her desk and called and got an appointment for next week.
I definitely would look for another vet........if thats at all possible.
BTW - how is Jasper doing today? ;) No seriously....poor pup. Poopy issues are not fun!

I agree with everyone else, if you're dissatisfied (and I think I would be!), find someone else. I just spent $400 at the vet this morning, and I LOVE the doctor my J-dog sees (Is your J-dog also named Jasper?). She was nice enough to examine our kitten for free even though the appointment wasn't for him, and she sent us home well-informed and very satisfied with the quality of service.
Of course, I went through about half a dozen vets before finding this office, but it was worth it...

My vet is terrific. Even when I go in to buy a new bag of food, he always asks how Merlin is getting along. I'm so blessed to have such a caring and compassionate vet.

@Snakemama- I forgot that your doggie was Jasper, also! We had originally named him Jack. But, the person for whom we were fostering him for already had a Jack in the foster program, and she asked if we minded calling him Jasper, instead. LOL, he is a total Jasper. We call him J-dog, Jaspys, Snakedog (as he slithers all over the bed), woo-woo (cause he does woo-woo when he gets excited), and our big baby boy! No one gets just a name in our house.
He is doing better in the old poop department, and hasn't gone through anymore screens.
