Hey all! Cassie is going to be going through loose leash training, no-jumping training and finally puppy socialization classes. She is signed up to go to leash training 10 days from now. It's very hard to walk her sometimes, so I'm hoping through these I will be able to take her on LONG walks to get all that energy out!

Right now its raining, so Cass isn't so keen on being penned up inside..

I hate rainy days, with 5 doggies here, so I know JUST what you mean! Been raining off and on all day here so we haven't been out at all. :(

Good luck w/ all the classes!

That must get em pretty antsy. Hope it has cleared up by now! Still goin' here. Thank you! Ever since Cassie heard the word "trainer" she has been acting awfully good..

Is leash training the same as obedience? Like teaching them to heel?

(sorry for the stupid question :o)

I think the trainer mentioned something about teaching her to heel. Loose leash training is basically teaching her how to walk well on the leash. No more cutting the circulation out of my arm! :) Wasn't a stupid question, no worries.

I took Cassie into Petco for her leash training class today. The trainer says the first step is to teach her to heel, so that's what we'll be focusing on when I walk her now.

Cass lasted about an hour before she got bored and started laying down randomly everytime we stopped. The manager came out and tried to get her all excited, and Cassie raised up on her hackles and started barking at him. Trainer yelled at him -__-'.

Sounds like your trainer might not know what's up :-/ Hackles aren't a bad thing, just a nervous system response. Everyone always thinks it's an aggressive response but it's not. He was just over stimulated it sounds like. :-/

And it's interesting that your trainer says he has to learn to heel first??? They are completely different behaviors in my book.

I hope things work out for you. :) I love taking classes with my pups.
