My baby girl Maggie has torn her ACL on her left hind leg.:(:( A trip to
the Vets this morning confirmed my fears. It happened yesterday morning
on her regular morning outee. I thought she might have sprained something
as she came limping back to the back door. Rest & pain meds didn't seem
to help her much at all & she was crying a lot by evening time.

The Vet said she thinks it might be a tear and not a rupture & with total
rest & some meds she could recover enough to start small walks on leash.
I have a feeling this is going to be a long summer of confinment & rest for
my sweetie. Can you please spare some good vibes & prayers that Maggie
heals up without surgery? The Vet thinks it is possible & I want so to believe
that.

I can hear RB Cody saying *Oy Vey*! He went through torn ACLs on each knee. It's my worse fear with Mz Logan too (that and Bloat) Blame it on the critters invading our babies's property!

Lots of prayers, of course, Liz, for you and darling Maggie. I guess it's good that it's 100 degrees and too hot to run around.
Now listen up, Maggie...stay cool and calm 'cause mom is really worried and so are we. I hope Maggie doesn't need surgery.

Aww, thank you all for the good wishes for Maggie (&me):) She is being
a good patient so far & the pain med seems to be keeping her comfortable
for the most part. I've worked out a routine of going out & back in for outees
by using the easiest steps to go up & down into the house. I now use the
front porch steps with Maggie (easier for her), so she has met my porch
kitties face to face now. So far so good with both her & them.:)

:(

Poor girl! Lady tweaks her shoulder occasionally and getting her to rest and let it heal isn't fun.

Hopefully she's a better patient than miss impatient.

It's too bad to hear about your dog's torn ligament. If your vet said that surgery is not really necessary, perhaps your vet is right. a torn ligament does not always call for surgical correction. the best way to determine if your dog really needs surgery is to go through an 8-week period where activity is carefully restricted and assess whether your dog can re-stabilize the affected joint. The eight week-period is not really the time which is needed for the ligament to heal, rather it is the observation period whether or not your dog can restore stability to the joint. If after the 8-week period you have not observed any improvements, even though how little they may be, surgery may have to be done.

Our prayers for Maggie's speedy recovery:)

Hey Liz! How's Maggie? Been thinking about her! Hope she's better!

It's too early to tell really, but Maggie is definately getting around
better now then when the accident happened. It will be 2 weeks tomorrow
since she injured her leg. She puts more weight on the left leg & only limps
when she first gets up after she has been sleeping. Otherwise, she acts
much like her old self.:) (minus the jumping around)

The Vet said it could take several months to give a more definate
picture of her recovery.Meantime I still take her outside on a leash
every time & limit her activity inside too. Maggie is being a good girl
about the whole thing.:)

Think Maggie has a bladder infection.:( Poor baby has to go pee every
5 mins. Called the Vet & they can't see her till tomorrow.

Oh NO!!! Poor Maggie! UTI's are the worst. I hope you get some sleep, Liz. I'll bet the vet visit can't come quick enough!
You'll be OK Maggie. Just hang on another day. You've been such a good, good girl throughout all your boo-boos. I love you and will be thinking of you and mom.:love::love::love:

Thanks Karen,

Vet confirmed she has a "raging UTI". Had blood & white cells in her urine.:(
Maggie got a shot of antibiotic & sent home with antibiotic pills to take till
this is gone. She is such a little trooper about it all & I can't stop hugging her.
I'm crazy about this little girl.:)

Oh Liz, it's been tough for both Maggie and you, but the antibiotic will surely help and Maggie will feel better very soon. :)

I got a pleasant surprise this morning when I woke up. Maggie was
up in bed with me.:D She hasn't been able to do that since she hurt her leg.
I can tell she's feeling a lot better every day, but to see those little brown
eyes staring back at me when I opened my eyes this morning was a real
treat.:D

Prayers for Maggie! My sister's dog Seamus tore both his ACL's recently and had surgery. He's bouncing back fast!

Maggie has been doing so well lately (knock wood) that I've started
to talk her for walks around the neighbor hood again. They are short
walks but it makes her soooo happy.:) Smokey too, he hasn't been going
either. I couldn't take him & not Maggie, so I stopped walks altogether
while she healed up.

Boy, you would think I gave them steak or something, they both were
so excited to go on walkies again.:D This was the 2nd time this week &
we'll continue with a slow & easy pace for now. Thanks for all the prayers
and good wishes. :)
